  1. good job, offense!
  2. lmao. nice punt again.
  3. If it takes a couple hundred games of leading off before you trust someone enough to let them lead off, how exactly do they earn your trust? Are you basically saying that a hitter MUST prove himself outside of your organization before he can be annointed a leadoff hitter? Grady Sizemore: 138 ML ABs in 2004 before leading off in 2005 Matt Murton: 140 ML ABs in 2005 Mr. Murton has better plate discipline than Sizemore and had more base stealing success in the minors. Sizemore really came out of nowhere last year w/ the SBs.
  4. i predict that we have Pierre in CF. :( i hate this "leadoff hitter" garbage. hendry is a moran.
  5. i'm loving the play calls so far.
  6. I think that team is in a huge mess right now and IMO Tejada would want to get out. I agree he is their cornerstone but they need a lot of help and he could bring in a lot. Pie, Cedeno, Hill, Guzman would be a very nice start to get a good young team started. Tejada is signed through 2009. It doesn't matter if he wants to get out or not. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Tejada, but it's not realistically in the cards. Even in a fantasy baseball scenario, he costs us Z or Prior, which I find unacceptable. He's not going to be had for Pie and some other prospects.
  7. ok, i need to stfu. interception. :x
  8. don't waste this opportunity, please.
  9. Huff: 2005 - .261/.321/.428 Career - .288/.342/.478 No thanks. 3 year totals: .290/.350/.494 Those are solid, if not spectacular numbers. I think he's one of our better options out there, certainly better than Mench. I wouldn't mind him or Wilkerson in RF with Bradley in CF. Huff would probably be better than Mench, but he's likely to cost a whole lot more in terms of prospects. We have to be careful with our trades. It isn't like we're one or two players from the playoffs and a shot at the WS.
  10. Paging Tonya Harding.
  11. but he would have $10 million more guaranteed with the Cubs offer. When he becomes the next Alex Gonzalez at Chavez, he won't get those last two years worth of money. Yes, the difference is 10M. Do you think that when Furcal hits the FA market again (assuming he doesn't re-up with the Dodgers) that he won't command at least 10.5M/2 years? he's going to have no problem making 50M over 5 years after taking 39.5M/3 from the Dodgers.
  12. Manny would be a huge upgrade offensively, however, that OF is very bad defensively. I would only put Manny in LF. Murton would have to be moved or be the 4th OF for that scenario to work. Don't forget one of JH's priorities this off-season was to improve the defense & that does not do it. Pierre isn't exactly an improvement on defense...well, he is b/c Patterson was mopping about his ABs in the field last year, but typically Patterson is much better defensively than Pierre. I think that defense comment of Hendry's probably applied to the middle infield, not every position.
  13. No, Cedeno starts at SS and Neifi gets 2B. Walker's gone in a trade. There's no doubt about it now. We have too many holes to fill without getting rid of him.
  14. I'm sure you'd agree that it's a good thing he didn't match the Dodger offer, though. I am pretty bummed, but I am glad we're not shelling out 13 mil/yr for Rafael Furcal. It's not my money, so oh well. Everybody's overpaying nowadays. Wait around for Walker deals and we'll get no one. Calling $10M per year for Furcal a "Walker deal" is ridiculous. That's a serious offer -- and *way* more than Furcal is worth. It's a poor FA market, and consequently those FA's worth anything are getting deals that I wouldn't offer. Sorry, but I don't thinkFurcal isn't that much of an upgrade over Cedeno -- certainly not $9.7M worth. Edited for typo How did you comprehend that?? I didn't mean Furcal @ $10 mil. was a Walker deal. Walker's deal is well under what's he's worth. Few guy's screw themselves out of money like Walker. You mean few guys care about winning and playing in a good baseball town over $$$ ?
  15. Why are some people upset over this? Because we lost a few SB and a "leadoff hitter?" His OBP was nothing grand. His OPS wasn't either. His D came together in a contract year, but usually he found a way to come up with 25-30 errors per season. Overrated and now overpaid. Don't be sad. It could have been us overpaying for mediocre production at SS just b/c some people overvalue a leadoff hitter.
  16. Everyone here isn't a grown man. lol ah, you're excused i guess. :?
  17. ESPN just reported it, using the LA Times as it's source. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2246996 it could mean nothing if the LA Times was wrong. edit: it was on ESPN News too (probably same source)
  18. this is what Aramis said at the time of his contract signing: link
  19. If this LA Times article is true about Furcal signing with LA, will this sour relations with Hendry and Kinzer? Kinzer also has a couple of clients on the Cubs: Neifi Perez and Aramis Ramirez. I could give a bleep about Neifi, who some speculated we overpaid to grease the wheels for a Furcal acquistion. Nice one. However, Aramis has the right to void the rest of his contract after the 2006 season and become a FA. This worries me in light of the money being thrown around in free agency this season. Aramis's contract: 1M signing bonus 2005: 8M 2006: 10.5M 2007: 11 2008: 11.5M 2009: 11M mutual option (270+ games in 2007-2008 guarantees option) I'm pretty sure Aramis could easily get 33M+/3 on the free agent market after the 2006 season.
  20. i'd rather lose this next year and have hendry and dustbag run out of town than win and endure many more seasons of this garbage. i've put up with enough losing seasons in my life. one more won't kill me if there is a real possibility of change for the better down the road.
  21. How is a 320 OBP, sub 800 OPS, and miserable defense something to long for? Put a fork in him, he's done. sub 800 OPS? sounds like furcal.
  22. You're right, and that makes me sad. Has anybody told him that you can get quality offensive players that play good defense? (Bradley) It doesn't have to be a one or the other type of thing, right? So let's set the over/under on ABs for Neifi this year at 550? Neifi was going to start anyways. He got starters money. If we snagged Furcal, Neifi would get his PA at 2B. All we did today is limit the damage JH tries to do to this team. Neifi was a blow to the 2006 and 2007 Cubs already inflicted upon us by our GM. Theo in '07!! Please don't make me think about Neifi in 2007. I've already convinced myself that we'll have a different manager then. If used correctly, he 'could' be a useful player (worth about .5 mill, not 2.5). Maybe Dusty will realize how bad of a GM Hendry is and jump ship to LA before the season. The organization really seems to be clueless. Now you're coming around. :D
