    :shock: Do we want to match Marte for Lugo? OK, I get it: you do not want Lugo or Pierre. Of the one's realistically left, who do you want? That's not it at all. Well, sorta. I don't want Pierre, but he's going to be a rental considering Pie is on his way (or so says Plan A). Lugo is nice, but come on.     thanks for the news. i'm really curious to know what Pierre is going to bring in this market. I know this is going to drive everyone nuts but my guess would be Williams was offered. i hate you. :lol:

    Why? Was Dusty on the radio too? No, but basically what Rogers said was Baker had a meeting with the media and somebody asked him what he thought about Murton and Cedeno and Baker's response was something like"If I dont play them I dont play young people." and then went on to justify how he plays young people like the bull pen and back in his days with the Giants. Typical Baker. Baker, from Cubs.com: "If I don't [play them], I'll be accused of not liking young players," Baker said, referring to one of the criticisms he's heard. "Look at my bullpen last year -- it was the youngest bullpen in baseball. You've got to give the young players a chance to play sometime. Certainly you have to live with some mistakes." Did he really have much choice after Fox went down? It's not like there are a ton of decent veteran arms around playing for the league minimum.

    If you could get Bradley for only Patterson then why in the world would you give up all that (or anything, really) for Pierre? If we get Bradley stick him in center and focus on getting a RF. And once again, I'd like for anyone to explain to me a good reason for trading Walker for Soriano, even if it's a straight-up deal. Don't worry. The word out of Texas is Soriano isn't on the Cubs radar. his D is too crappy at 2b and he won't move to the OF. :D

    I'd trade Patterson for Pierre and then Pierre for someone who's not worthless. :lol: If they want more than Patterson, have security remove them from the hotel...roughly.

    Some metrics(not that I necessarily agree) have Dunn rated as the better fielder than Abreu. And despite Dunn being a big guy, he really isn't all that slow. Abreu is a poor defender. How in the world he won a Gold Glove is beyond me. Poor range and laziness shouldn't get you a GG. 24/102/31/.286/.405/.474 that is why he won the GG. You didn't know that winning a gold glove is ALL about the offense? yeah, that award is quickly becoming a joke.

    I don't think ripping Hendry over Furcal is justified. The Dodgers came in with a late, huge offer that the other teams weren't allowed to really counter. Schuerholz is P.O.ed b/c he didn't get to improve his offer. Raffy wanted the money and I'm glad we weren't the ones giving it to him. Mariotti is a fool if he thinks Furcal, a leadoff hitter with crappy production, is worth that much money. Either way Hendry is excused, and I, obviously, am no Hendry supporter. As usual Mariotti twists the facts into a rant about the Trib. Co. I don't love the Trib., but they're not the devil incarnate.

    meh. at least we wouldn't give up 2-3 arms for Pierre. i like wilkerson. i don't really see the need for Lugo with Wilky on board. I'd rather save the prospects and play Cedeno. I'd like to see some combo of Bradley, Wilkerson, Kearns, and Dunn (dream world). Forget Abreu.

    the first names people ask for when making a deal with JH are Pie and Hill. that should tell you something about his value. it's not just our organization that covets him.

    Wait, if Bruce Levine said it... he's usually good about this kind of stuff. it's the imminent trade stuff that he botches, or errors on the side of breaking the big story instead of waiting for definite confirmation.

    We had the Braves beat. Then the Dodgers jumped in with the offer and said that was it. Take it or leave it, no going back and forth. hendry didn't have time to up the offer even if he wanted to and neither did the braves (it's why schuerholz is so pissed). the dodgers basically overpaid the market by 3M/year.

    Bruce Levine, who's chilling at the winter meetings, just said on ESPN 1000 that Damon isn't on the cubs radar. his range is poor and he's too old for that kind of contract. hendry wants young guys.

    yeah, this is sounding better. i'm not crazy on pierre, but with 8 teams in the mix for his services, we probably won't get him.
