  1. Hey, Jimbo, what good do RPs do if your starters are injured and your offensive production from the OF, 2B, and SS are in doubt? Could that money have been put to better use? I'm selling Jones short? His numbers flat out stink. 16M/3? Please. What if his "couple of rough seasons" continue in Chicago? It looks like guys have got "the book on him."
  2. Jim - For some reason Vlad, Abreu and Dunn didn't fall in our lap. Me - I've never asked for a superstar in RF, just someone who can do more than "catch the ball" for $16M/3. Oh, and do something about that hair.
  3. I'd offer to send him a free T-shirt with my avatar on it. :D Seriously, my question would be: why did we beef up the bullpen at a premium and get stuck with jones in the OF? jones couldn't have been your first choice for RF.
  4. but we're not going to have all of those guys healthy. wood, miller, and guzman are all solid bets to grace the DL next season, probably for significant time. i think hendry is just stockpiling arms for the inevitable.
  5. hendry, wth are you doing? hopefully he is a piece in an upcoming trade.
  6. I'm pretty sure we're not paying Jones 5M+ per year to platoon him. :(
  7. all the stats you listed are largely dependent on the pitchers the catcher works with. look at who barrett, blanco, and molina caught for. look at those pitchers' deliveries. barrett isn't a great threat to throw a runner out, but having guys like maddux getting you the ball pretty much assures you you're not going to nab a runner.
  8. We're not getting a big bat for RF. Jones is it. :( Oh, and I wouldn't take Molina over Barrett at this stage of the game. We're going to need some offensive production with slappy and Jones tooling around the OF and some combo of Neifi/Cedeno/Hairston in the MIF. Offensive powerhouse.
  9. I like this signing. Good job, Jim. How about sneaking in an option for 2007?
  10. Hendry and Co. overvalue defense. I don't hear anyone in the Cubs' Org. whining about his offensive production. I'd be shocked if Walker is the opening day starting 2B for the Chicago Cubs.
  11. After the way Pie has been playing of late, can he really be considered a "spectacular prospect?" Lugo is an underrated superstar? lol
  12. Way to take one for the team, Mark. :-s
  13. Hahaha. Look at all the money we had to spend this offseason and all the "expendable" talent in the farm system. lmao. i love Hendry. sign that man to an extension, pronto!
  14. The sad part about that plan is Pie being our every day RF in 2007+. What a complete misuse of talent. But, hey, we needed a leadoff hitter.
  15. I hope that is sarcasm.... If I were the Cubs i'd just play the rookies, Cedeno, Pie, and Murton. If they put up the numbers Bill Jame projected i think we have a very good chance of making the playoffs. If not by 2007 they should all be ready for a big years. I got this from Gammons...Cubs CF Felix Pie to hit 21 HR and an .874 OPS; Cubs INF Ronnie Cedeno .310 with an .800 OPS; Murton .318 with an .859 OPS. I'm going to take a wild stab and say Gammons has probably never seen Pie play. If Pie has an .874 OPS, I'll assume that he will have to hit somewhere between .330-.350 to have that high of an OPS considering he has a walk rate that hovers right around where Corey's is, and he has yet to develop the power Corey had in 2003 when Corey's OPS was .840. Basically 3 rookies that will all hit .310 or better? I want some of what he's smoking. Yeah, there is no way Cedeno has an 800 ops. Is he really going to slug over .450 ihis first year n the majors? He'll be lucky to do that, like, ever. to put this in perspective, Rafael Furcal, the guy we were jumping to pay 9M+/year for 5 years has never put up an 800+ OPS in a full season. that includes rookie ball to the present day.
  16. Hendry offered Furcal 5 years at 9M+/year. Furcal, the second tier SS. Hendry has tried to make bad moves. We're lucky others have prevented him by making worse (Colletti).
  17. I think the last century has proved pretty conclusively that God doesn't like the Cubs.
  18. RF never was a priority. Where else was Pie going to play after we acquired Pierre (who was always a Hendry target even if we got Furcal)? Whoever plays RF is just going to keep Pie's spot warm (in Hendry's ideal universe). I think that eliminates a FA outfielder like Jockstrap Jones b/c of the likely contract length (thank God) even though we have to deal with low production in a corner outfield spot (he's a CF, not a corner OF).
  19. If we're looking to ink Pierre to an extension and Pie is coming up to play RF, it's pretty understandable why RF hasn't been a priority for Hendry. He wants a rental. I can't beleive we're looking to sizably deplete the farm system of talent for Tejada. This move wouldn't have been necessary if we could have had decent OF production, but NO, that wasn't a priority for our offseason. :x Instead we get one of the more offensively unproductive centerfielders in MLB and are looking to pick up a scrub for RF. Even Tejada at SS doesn't balance that out. I'm sure that will please the sheep though. Get a big name and then look baffled when we fail to make the playoffs again.
  20. Young: http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/Y/chris-young-1.shtml Sizemore: http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/S/grady-sizemore.shtml Young may be unproven, but the odds of him making it are very good barring injury.
  21. No. 2 starter on any team? So he's better than 2 of Wood, Prior, and Zambrano? ok. enough Vazquez love. He was a decent pick up, but no need to go crazy with the Williams love b/c of it. Williams is destroying the ChiSox future with his love for parting with top prospects. That's fine with me. We'll have to deal with them being good for a maximum of 4-5 years and then his decisions will take their toll.
  22. Nomar's injury wasn't a fluke. the severity of his latest injury was unexpected, but it seems like his body is falling apart. he has had wrist, back, and groin problems that have caused him to miss significant time. that should tell us something. I really wish he could have been healthy. i loved watching a healthy Nomar. we can't go into next season making the same mistake (or taking the same risk) we did in 2005. our OF isn't going to be stacked. if it was, i'd definitely role the dice on nomar, but now we're in the same position hendry put us in last season, with an underwelming OF (unless there is the miracle acquisition of Abreu or someone of that caliber) and relying on the MIF for offensive production.
  23. How is that possible? Are Murton and Pierre going somewhere? Should we beat ourselves up because we didn't give up a top tier hitting prospect for the A-Hole with the high OBP? yes, b/c it's better than the saints with the .757 OPS.
  24. That's right! Imagine how easy the Rule 5 draft will be next year for the Cubs...no worries about losing any players. Don't forget all...the Cubs have about 143 PTBNL still coming to them. Good point. What? PTBNL typically suck. why would they deserve to be on the 40 man? it's not like we're actually going to have trouble with finding 40 warm bodies to put on there, just quality players that deserve to be there.
