  1. Then the Cubs should trade Walker to the Cards for a bucket of balls!
  2. We lost him the first time because Wood refused to go on the DL and we had to try and outright him to the minors for a roster spot...and at the same time, lost him and Gary Matthews, Jr. Interesting, I didn't know that.
  3. The Cubs have already had Miguel Cairo they didn't seem to like him.
  4. I'm going to miss the little guy being on the Cubs - he was one of my favorites.
  5. Found this on BP, I don't know if it's been posted... http://baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=4647
  6. This very well may be the best value offseason signing.
  7. I really don't think FL is interested in Prior. A) he makes more than the league minimum, and b) by the time these young guys grow up and make an impact, they might have lost him to FA by that time. Actually I agree - I wouldn't trade Miggy for Prior, Hill and Pie. I know that fans have a way of overvaluing thier own players, but if you're in contention AND building for the future, I think you'd be foolish to pass on that deal. Well, I'm not that high Pie. Hill is nice. Prior is a stud but considering money and age Miggy is just flat out has better value. Plus I prefer position player young studs over pitchers because of durability. I am not sure even Prior and some prospects would get it done. Plus why wouldn't you do it? You get the Cubs top prospects, Prior and a decent salary for a year or two and then you ship him out for more top prospects or young major league talent at the time these other prospects are getting to the major leagues. First off, I think Prior is great. I would trade Carp for him straight up if the Cubs offered. But considering age, money and production I think you could argue Miggy is the most valuable player in baseball. At a risk of sounding like a troll the Cubs top prospects aren't really that great. They are good but I think Pie only ranks in the top 30 in baseball. In terms of production age, and money, I think Felix Hernandez has probably taken over that spot. Or will atleast next season. Young pitching scares me injury wise, please read here and here.

  11. Throw in Prior then you might be on to something.
  12. God bless all the Cubs fans I work with who think Pierre is a really good player.
  13. I think it's going to cost more to get Wilkerson or Bradley. I can tell you right now that Pinto and Nolasco are much better than Saarloos and Ramos. If those two A's prospects are all it takes to get this deal done, then I fail to see how Nolasco & Pinto wouldn't trump it. First off no one has been traded yet so we don't know what'll take to get these guys. 2nd I'm not a huge fan of Saarloos but he did post a 4.17 ERA last year. I believe the market would value him more then those 2 guys.
  14. I think it's going to cost more to get Wilkerson or Bradley.
  15. I think it's a strech to say these 2 guys could bring Michaels but they might bring Bradley (who knows?). I would be more annoyed about the money then the prospects.
  16. Danny F. Jackson!! Todd "The Turd" Hundley. Bump Wills. Ron Cey. Kevin Tapani. Henry Rodriguez. Jaime Navarro. Randy Myers. Rod Beck. Candy Maldonado. Dave Smith. Jason Bere. Flash Gordon. Benito Santiago. That settles it - God hates the Cubs.
  17. And what if it's .326 like it was last year? That's the chances you have to take. At least it's about .200 points better than Patterson right? ;) why is that a chance you have to take? that makes no sense. He's posted .378, .374, and .361 too. and a .332. what's your point? yeah, he could be a decent leadoff guy, but there are only a few one year rentals that i give up the top 3 minor league arms for -- and slappy mcgee ain't one of them. and unless you're finding a way to get dunn, abreu or manny (w/o your top minor league arms, who you traded for your dreamboat, once in a lifetime, 'prototypical leadoff guy, mind you), this team isn't going anywhere next year anyway. so what's the point in giving up the farm for a guy that can help you win 81 games instead of 79? Don't you think calling giving up Nolasco and Pinto "giving up the farm" is a wee bit dramatic? Neither is even a top 5 Cub prospect, maybe not even top 10. I agree, I would be more upset about spending lots of money on a guy who isn't a difference maker.
  18. Nolasco was ranked 7th in BA's top 10 this year. Pinto wasn't ranked. I dont know what letter grade that correlates to, but a team's #7 prospect and their #11 (at best) for a solid leadoff hitter sounds like a good trade to me. EDIT: Or you could just read the posts before mine from the guys who really know about our minor leaguers! All, Thanks for the prospect info. If I were a Cub fan I'd be OK with this deal. Not great though. Meh.
  19. Aren't Nolasco and Pinto B- type prospects? Seriously, I don't know much about them. Anybody have a link that gives the rundown?
  20. It actually wasn't the entire article but I get your point. Main points... 1) Mark Prior for Bobby Abreu. Will not happen. 2) "the only pitchers the Cubs are interested in trading are relievers or prospects. " 3) "minimal interest in Aubrey Huff to fill their right-field vacancy" 4) another quote - According to one team that inquired about Pie, the Cubs "don't have very many untouchables -- but he's one." I don't know how the Cubs can hope for a good OF bat w\o moving Pie but we shall see. Would you believe you could trade: Hundley Hawkins A.Gone Brendan Harris/Francis Beltran Bobby Hill Choi And get significant to all star production back for many of them? Hendry has a good track record of trading. But none of those players were the quality of Abreu at the time of the deal. Lee and Ramirez had still just shown glimpses of what they've become. Nomar was an injury problem with 2 months left on his contract. Karros and Grudz were bad, and I sure hope Hendry isn't targeting players of that caliber. I don't see an Abreu or Dunn deal happening without dealing Pie and/or Hill. But I agree that the Cubs could easily get guys like Wilkerson, Bradley, and other names that have been mentioned. Yea I agree but CFICT merely said a GOOD of bat. Not a superstar OF bat. Yeah sorry I wasn't clear I did mean an impact bat.
  21. I can't figure out what Atlanta is doing here. I like this deal for the Sox and Tampa.
