  1. I don't know about "capable". I would seriously not watch this team if Neifi is our starting 2B. It's bad enough he is still here. Didn't he save the Cubs last year? edit - thats a joke.
  2. i don't think that there's any doubt that the cards win because they're good, but you can't deny that all of thier fans are basically hillbillies. :P Get a brain moran.
  3. Between the two, Furcal has a greater chance of playing out his contract. AJ Burnett can dominate but he hasn't proven to me that he's worth a 5 year commitment. I agree about playing out the contract - Burnett is high risk high reward. Still, I'd rather have Burnett. Perhaps... Teams spend based on need and with the current state of the Cubs' rotation I'm not sure they can afford to gamble on Burnett. However, I can certainly understand the Cardinals interest in him. Conversely, aquiring Furcal solves a couple of different problems for the Cubs so I can see why they have offered him 5/50. On another note, while I'm not the least bit confident that Wood will be completely healthy this year I am hoping that the law of averages are on the Cubs side, this season, and that he'll make a substantial number (dare I say all) of his starts. Given Burnett's track record over the last three years don't you have the same concerns about him? Yes, he made 32 starts last year but only 19 in 2004 and 4 in 2003 before having a second TJS. The funny thing is I think Furcal makes more sense for the Cards then the Cubs. As it stands STL has no 2nd basemen - Eck could slide over there and we could put Furcal. The Cubs however have RC and Walker - both are solid options.

  5. If I'd have to choose between Furcal 5/50 or Burnett 5/50 I'd take Burnett. Glup.
  6. Although I'd rather have Z if I were a Cubs fan Boras factor would concern me quite a bit. I think its pretty much a foregone conclusion Z will hit the FA market.
  7. Why would he want to go to the Cubs? That team is a mess right now. O:)
  8. Where did the base clogging thing come from? Did Baker really say that? He said guys who walk and aren't fast clog the bases. haha, oh god. translation by the transitive property "oh pujols" ok, I'm bored. Hah, I laughed.

  11. I agree with everything you wrote. So what do you think he'll get? What do you think he's worth?
  12. All- thanks for all your reply's to my question.
  13. Considering what we've seen so far this offseason what do you think Furcal will get? edit - I think he gets 5\60 from someone (maybe not the Cubs).
  14. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/gammons/story?id=2239213 Anonymous sources. Bah. What do they know? Usually nothing. I really doubt that the offer Hendry made was for more than $10,000,000 a year. Considering the contracts we've seen so far I bet he gets at least 5\60 but we shall see... I can't see who he would get that offer from. There is no way the Braves are going that high and the Mets seem to be spending their money other places. I think Hendry will put in an offer at about 4/$38M and see where that gets him. Maybe we should take this to the Polls... edit - OK, a poll is out there.

Considering the contracts we've seen so far I bet he gets at least 5\60 but we shall see... gfd. you're trying to make me cry. 40M/4 is overpaying. Take heart maybe the Dodgers will pay 5\60! Besides, I'm always wrong about these things.

  17. I don't know if this has been posted but Gammons on ESPN... http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/gammons/story?id=2239213
  18. I think this is a solid pick up for the Cubs even though his 05 numbers were alarming.
  19. Seems to be crashing a lot today.
  20. I could see them having interest in guys like Williams, Mitre, Novoa, Wuertz and Ohman. I would give them Williams and Novoa along with some prospects, if they took on enough cash so that the Cubs owed only $14m per year. Gooney, I like where you're coming from there, but if Hendry sent Williams, Novoa, and a prospect or two.... I think Boston would be so ectatic that they'd be willing to swallow an even larger portion of Ramirez's salary. Hendry is a pretty good negotiator. Manny might be had for less. I was just about to post otherwise. None of those guys are\will be difference makers. The prospects traded in the Beckett and Delgado might be. Besides Boston doesn't really need payroll relief. The Cubs would have to give up a guy that would hurt in order to get Manny.
  21. I think for a "win now" org like Boston they would want atleast one really and ready player in return a few top prospects.
