  1. The team getting LT was in first and the other team was close to last place.
  2. My league vetoed the following trade: LaDainian Tomlinson for Portis and Santana Moss (Was huge but has had a drop off in the last 4 week) Question, would you have voted against this trade? Thanks!
  3. Not to hijack the thread but... Zambrano #'s and innings + Boras + Beckett $ = Crazy Huge Contract The Cubs have always been good at keeping the guys they want to keep. The last stud that walked that they really wanted to keep is Maddux. Of course, that's always been easy because there's only been maybe two guys at a time that had fallen into that category during our dismal '90s. Nonetheless, I'm not worried about their ability to keep Zambrano, Prior, Aramis or Lee. I agree, I just wonder what the Cubs will have to pay in order to keep him. 7-90? Nevermind, this is for another thread even though I'm not sure what this one is about anymore.

  5. Bottom line how you feel about a Pie for Abreu deal should partially be dependant on the Cub’s World Series chances in the next few years with him. If I were the Cubs I'd most likely do the deal.
  6. Yeah, our farm system is slim for sure. Not that i'm complaining but the Cards like to deal what little prospects they do have for established big league talent. Why are you here and how are you contributing to this discussion about whether the Cubs could possibly acquire Bobby Abreu without giving up Felix Pie? If you want to toot the Cardinals horn, please, go someplace else. I didn't think I was "tooting" the cards horn when I said their farm system is slim. I thought discussing Pit chances to be a different maker might shed some light on the issue.

  8. Anyone know anything about Anibal Sanchez?
  9. Thank TruffleShuffle for bring that abomination in to our little world.
  10. I'd set the line at 18/1 that Pie becomes a 5 time all star or better. Abreu's been an All Star twice in nine seasons. Seems like a silly measuring stick to me. Good point - how about finish in the top 3 in VORP for his position for at least 5 years? What's the point of your question? Does Pie have to turn into a HOF worthy player to make trading him a questionable idea? It just seemed to me that most people on here were overrating Pie's chances to be a top tier play. I asked the question to confirm that belief.

  13. How easy it to find 4 or 5 starters? Again, Lester has a much higher ceiling then Williams. Check out who are the most coveted SP this offseason, it's the guys who have the highest ceilings.
  14. That would be about my guess but given the choice I would take the under.
  15. I think Ramirez > Pie is justified given that Ramirez plays a more valuable position in SS. But Lester > Williams? I'd be willing to buy that if they had comparable playing time in the majors, but Williams has an established track record in the majors and has seen his fair share of success. I think anybody keeping tabs on him knew that, coming into the season, Williams had a ton of personal issues. He was overweight. His mother had died tragically. His father was ill. He still wasn't over all of them by the end of the season, either. Yet, he managed to put up some solid numbers towards the end of the season. But, give him an offseason to get his head together and get himself back into playing shape and I think he could break out in a big way next season. He commands four pitches that range from average to plus. He has playoff experience. He's going to be 24 for all of next season. Lester will be cheaper for longer, but if I'm a GM, I think I would take Williams over Lester. But that's just my preference. Williams is a nice player but Lester is a 21 year old grade A pitching prospect with a very high ceiling. I'm pretty sure if you polled all the GM's in baseball I don't think one would take Williams over Lester.
  16. Just out of curiosity what do you guys think the odds of Pie becoming a 5x all-star type player? I understand this is a Cubs board but he seems a little overrated on NSBB to me.
  17. Lester & Ramirez for Beckett straight up is roughly equivalent to Williams and Pie (potential franchise player & solid young pitcher). Blalock, Arias, and Danks/Diamond/Volquez for Beckett, Lowell, and Mota is a bit tougher since I can't find a good comp to Blalock on the major league team. I guess Barrett would be a decent comp (he can play 3B). Maybe Barrett, Cedeno, and Nolasco? I don't know if the Marlins would be willing to take on Bare's salary, though. I'm pretty sure GM's view... Ramirez > Pie Lester > Williams
  18. I could care less if the team was all RH, as long as they were good. The problem is Rowand almost walks by accident. A career best 32 in 600 trips to the plate this year. That's why he's a bad fit. I agree, if anything LH bat is worse because they are more susceptible to the platoon split.
  19. Isn't this time much more likely, though? No stadium deal, no Burnett, no Penny...I see some parts being sold off as they reload from their system. I agree. Also, I would give up Pie and Williams in a heartbeat to get Beckett.
  20. But why is that? Is that because Texas needs to shed payroll in order to take on Lowell? Maybe Florida feels entitled to a top prospect because they are picking up some of Lowell's contract. I'm advocating the Cubs pick up Lowell's entire deal for Beckett, and as such, not give anything back. I'm not saying you're wrong. I just want to know. If the Cubs come in and pick up 2 years and $18M, I would think Florida would say thank you very much. Hoops I believe Texas would pick up all of Lowell's contract in this deal.
  21. Because Beckett has a lot more trade value and Lowell's contract is horrible.
  22. So, again, what does it take to get him? Depends on what the other bidders are offering, but I would offer Hill and Cedeno to start. Furcal+Neifi means Cedeno will not get a fair chance with the Cubs until 2008 at the earliest. I'd rather sell him while his value is high. I would also trade Hill+Pie for Beckett, but I'd much prefer moving Cedeno before Pie. I think it would take Williams and Pie to start. IF they offered Castillo, I would also give them Walker and one other P. Any deal for Beckett is going to have Lowell attached to it.
  23. Why was he in such a hurry to sign those scrubs? Couldn't he have waited to see if he signed Furcal? Why did he give plan B bench guys so much money? Going in to a season with Nefei as a starter can not be an option. EDIT: I hope I don't sound like a troll. I'm just a nerd who likes chatting about baseball.
  24. I don't like Dusty - I love him! I hope he's with the Cubs for a long, long time. Honestly, I think Dusty's star has fallin a lot more then Hendry's. Really Hendry has had only one really bad offseason with last season. This one has had a bad start but jury is still out on it.
