  1. that's pretty sad - you hate him because of the name on the front of his jersey? geez. Oh come on, its a good fun rivalry. I don't actually "hate" any of these players.
  2. Loving all the Edmonds hatin' out there. OK, here we go... 1) Carlos Zambrano - Big baby spaz - big drop off after this one... 2) Curt Schilling - I'm sick of him speaking his "mind" 3) Craig Biggio - leans in to pitches with his silly body armor. 4) Mark Prior - Has said some things about the Cards that hasn't made me happy. 5) Johnny Damon - This guy has started to believe his own hype. If he signs with the Cubs he'll be my #2.
  3. That's dumb. Frank would be a perfect solution for the Cubs CF issues.
  4. An injury prone pitcher and an overrated SS for 20-25m a year? We're talking about Burnett and Furcal, not Renteria and Morris, or whatever, your messageboard is thataway. I just happen to think those two guys will be the most overpaid players in the offseason. Relax. what other injuries has burnett had besides TJS? i honestly don't know but doubt that him having one injury makes him injury prone. as for an overpaid furcal....of course he's going to be overpaid, christian guzman makes 4 mil a year and he might be the worst hitter in the history of the game. shortstops are ALL overpaid, it's simply a position that people want to squeeze offense out of. i don't think they'll be the most overpaid FAs this offseason, they might, but there will be a lot of overpaying. at least they're talented and warrant any risk involved in signing them. That is true about furcal, I guess if I were the Cubs I go with RC and get some outfield help instead. The ROI for furcal is going to stink. Good point on on Burnett, I thought he missed a lot of time in 05 but he didn't - he made 32 starts. In 04 he was shut down with elbow inflammation but yeah he's been pretty healthly. Hasn't he had major surgery in the past few years? IIRC he has. I found an article on Burnett that addresses his health... http://www.lookoutlanding.com/story/2005/10/20/01959/665 By the way - What does IIRC mean? Thanks!

  8. what about guys like williams, hill, pinto, & perhaps guzman & marshall (if they can stay healthy) to go along with prior, z & rusch? The Cubs have the money to spend....Spend it wisely but spend it I don't think the Cubs can do both with this FA class. There's a lot of money out there and not a lot of talent.
  9. 4/40 mil is probably what it would take. I bet he gets more $ then Pavano. I'll go 4/44. Me too. 4/55 is my geuss. Almost 14mil? No way anybody signs him for that. I think the 4th year will be a lot of cash and possible buyout. This is a very lean year for free agents and I think that Burnett is about to take advantage of that. He's a better pitcher than Pavano too. Yeah, in retospect I should have said 4/48.

  11. Does the fact it will take five years to get him change interest at all? The teams listed as interested in A.J. are the Blue Jays, Rangers, Red Sox, Orioles, and Mariners. This is just a negotiation ploy. Remember Beltran wanting 10 yrs? There's no way he gets five years from anyone - you can bank on it. In this weak market, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get it. Teams will have money to spend and few quality guys to spent it on. With his age and potential, he's one guy I could see getting a 5/50 deal. True, however I honestly can't remember the last time a pitcher got more then 4 yrs. The problem is insurance companies won't insure a player for more then 3 yrs. Not to mention pitchers are notoriously injury prone, I just don't see any team taking that kind of risk.

  13. I believe the only way Corey gets back on track is if he leaves the Cubs. He looked mentally shot last year and to make matters worse after Latroy left he became the new whipping boy at Wrigley. I hope the best for the guy, he always seemed like a class act to me.
  14. Stop trying to hijack the thread.
  15. Z's relationship with Philly fans would be interesting to say the least. oh and I would do the deal if I were the Cubs either... however if Abreu were 4 yrs younger I'd pull the trigger.
  16. I got mine off of cards talk. Where do you get yours? Could you post them? Thanks!
  17. Helton deserves it. A quick glance at stats shows that much. If Lee gets it, it'll be more for his hitting than anything, as odd as that is for a fielding award. You got the stats to prove why Helton deserves over Lee? In BP today they have an article by Clay Davenport about the GG. Here's what he has say about the NL 1B: On all of the tables below, the fielders will be rated by the familiar stat-stat-stat routine, only instead of AVG, OBP, and SLG, they will be Fielding Rate, Runs Above Replacement, and Runs Above Average (using the in-season, rather than the all-time, version). Since the awards are as much about reputation as performance, and since a reputation usually takes time to acquire, we’ll break the stats out into 2005 only, 2004 and 2005 combined, and career. Asterisks (*) will designate the 2004 winner. . . . National League Player, Team 2005 2004-05 Career *Todd Helton, Col 114-28-19 115-61-43 110-201-124 Nick Johnson, Was 109-20-11 107-28-14 105-38-16 Derrek Lee, Chi 109-24-14 109-50-29 107-138-70 Lyle Overbay, Mil 111-24-15 108-43-25 110-59-36 In the AL, I think Lee and Overbay could very easily be winners, but the competition is stiffer here thanks to Todd Helton. Helton is the defending champ, and makes a clean sweep of all three categories, even though Overbay and Lee have performed at legitimate GG levels--Helton’s just been better, and his career total is rapidly moving up the all-time lists. Voters could be swayed by Lee’s Triple Crown run in batting, and he did beat out Helton two years ago. Helton should win, but none of the four listed would be a disgrace to the award. http://baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=4581
  18. The Cubs should bring back LOOGY extraordinaire Mike Remlinger.
  19. i'd love to have ARod in Chicago. i'd have to burn my "Jeter sucks ARod" t-shirt, but we all have to make sacrifices in life. You want sacrifices? I'd be willing to trade away Eck's "pesty\table setting\great in the club house" play to get him. Don't talk to me about sacrifices!
  20. True, but at least it seems to go a lot farther than 100m+
  21. That would be a huge jump. This is a non story.
  22. Now for those who don't watch Poker on ESPN, Foxsports, etc, etc.....Phil Helmuth is one of the biggest CRYBABIES in poker, or sports entertainment, period. When he lost to Anne Dukes, his lost it. So, for ARod to assoicate himself with Phil Helmuth, speaks volumes about the character of Alex Rodriguez. And for ARod sake, if he wants to play poker, he needs to do it in legitmate places, not back alley "bars", so to speak. Lets not get carried away.
  23. I think it'll take more to get Abreu. What do the Phils need payroll relief for?
