  1. It's remaining at $92m. Accounting for the changes listed in the thread, STL might only have about $20m to play around with despite having some big need positions. They don't have the farm system to effectively fill those holes from within, so if they get Giles, they will potentially be short-changing their potential to fill holes in the rotation, bullpen, and in the lineup in a big way. I like to hear this...reasons why the Cards won't sign Giles.. I love it.. With our luck, he'll take his salary deferred for 50 years to play for the "world's greatest fans." The more I think and read about it the smaller chance I think the Cards will sign Giles. Here's the reasons: 1) Less payroll then I had expected. 2) How many major FA's have the Card's signed in years past? 3) There is a bigger market for Giles then I had expected. I hope I'm wrong! If the Cards have Edmonds and Giles maybe they would get a senior discount? I beileve that comes with the Reggie Sanders resigning.

  3. Wow, this is the first positive Baker post I've seen on NSBB
  4. I think locking up nefi for the next 7 years should be their first priority.
  5. No shock there Garciaparra will be someone's starting 3rd basemen next year - hence a bad fit for the Cubs.
  6. I think LA could do a lot better.
  7. Dusty would run Burnett into the ground. The only safe SP signing for the Cubs would be a durable verteran innings eater.

  9. You're kidding, right? You mean, "the other" 250 million dollar payroll" teams? :-k I just want them to win. Who cares how? Maybe it's just the Yankee-hater in me, but I want this drought broken by a team with a budget, not one that can just buy anyone they want. somehow the cubs will get by with their 100m+ payroll... somehow...
  10. I agree - I've always thought he was one of the most overrated minds in baseball.
  11. Walker in Shea? Think about it. If the Mets make a move to get Carlos Delgado, they might be willing to trade Cliff Floyd. Trading Floyd's $6.5M for Walker's $2.5M makes sense for both clubs on several levels. Floyd plays LF not 1B. My point is that they might feel the need to dump a salary to bring on Delgado. Well then who do they put in LF on the cheap?

  13. AZ should have an interesting offseason - looks like they hired a smart guy in Josh Byrnes.
  14. I can't imagine why the Cubs would want Soriano - the exact opposite of the kind of hitter we need. Because he is the type of player the Cubs seem to covet.
  15. I suspect CPatt and Walker for Soriano might be more likely. I don't think Young is going anywhere.
  16. That was a big win there. Orton has another solid game.
  17. Wow! Game for da bears!
  18. Even with the new ball park it looks like our payroll will remain at 92m. Poop. http://forums.stltoday.com/viewtopic.php?t=307107 Here's a breakdown I on found on Cards Talk edit: our payroll ended up being 92m not 90 last season.
  19. Vance why do you think this is the best Edmonds pic ever? Is there something you're not telling us?
  20. I agree OBP is more important then SLG but 3*OBP is a bit extreme. OBP*1.5 + SLG would be more of a "mainstream" view a player hitting value. I'm not saying Sanders is great but he's not that bad. no, sanders isn't that bad...he isn't that good either. he just doesn't have much other than power. when the power goes, his value will plummet. not having plate discipline will see to that (just ask Sammy Sosa). Sure, it's a risk, that's why he only costs like 3m. Not every player on a team is going to be prefect. But yeah, if I were the Cubs I would rather go with Murton in LF - Sanders can however play RF

  22. The had pretty good stats last year... .271/.340/.546 14 SB with 1 CS I hope the Cards resign him. Those are good stats for a corner outfielder? lol please keep him. For 4m - yes.
  23. I bet the Cards sign him for about 1yr - 3m. I think he's a good "value" signing.
  24. Thats the thing. he won't be the 5th starter unless injury. We already have 5 starters so we would be giving 3mil to Rusch for long relief. Ahh, that is very true. Does anyone have his starter and relief splits?
