  1. Although at times I think people can take saber numbers a tad too literal, I think stats can be a useful tool to help weed out human biases. One other thing, you should learn\care what VORP is if only to point out its flaws.
  2. I totally disagree for one simple reason - Perry doesn't take himself 1/10 as seriously as Rogers takes himself. Perry also is pretty smart, I definately don't think he's some sort of goon. Whoever had that Podsednik comment, you're a hypocrite. About 99.999999% of us advocated that Lee for Podsednik trade. [-( Podsednik sucks. Thanks to people like Joe Morgan and Co., some individuals actually think he's good. He doesn't "suck" anymore than Hendry is a "moran". He is overrated in terms of being labled an All-Star, just like Hendry has made some good moves, and some not-so-good moves. Podsednik ranked 14/21 in OBP, 21/21 (dead last) in SLG, and dead last in OPS last year among qualified AL left fielders. He had a 72 SB% which is just above the break even mark. He ranked 10/14 in VORP among AL LF with 400+ PA. He sucks. It's really not fair to call him a left fielder - his true position is CF, the Sox have just misused him.
  3. I have no idea why the Sox would want Pierre considering they have Podsednik. Podsednik doesnt play CF, that was Rowand Pods played CF for the Brewers - it's his "true" position.

  5. Welly and Mitre can't be sent to AAA without clearing waivers first. (Out of options.) I don't see how we'll avoid carrying a 12-man staff for another entire season. Guess that means we'll need Macias' "versatility" again. IMO Welly and Mitre will be part of a trade to bring in a big bat. I would temper my expectations if those 2 guys are involved.
  6. Dempster made his first appearance from the pen on Wed 11 May. dates Bullpen ERA 04 Apr - 10 May 4.243 11 May - 02 Oct 4.258 Interesting, that's worse then I thought. Thanks!
  7. Once Demp became a closer in 05 was the Cubs bullpen really that bad? Anyone have the numbers? Thanks!
  8. Going into the 2004 season, the Cubs had the strongest roster in the league, IMO. Most predicted the Cubs would win the central, and with good cause. What happened in 2004 was a firestorm of managerial ineptitude and injuries. In 2005 the personnel just wan't there. I completely agree with everything you said. Going in to 04 being a Cards fan in Chicago wasn't fun. :?
  9. I thought the Cubs did a pretty good job going in to 04 - sometimes things just don't work out.
  10. Thome has a NTC - is it a lock he will waive it? I bet he will considering he's a Chicago guy and the Sox won the WS last year...
  11. Does this mean Paulie is out? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2234843
  12. The 2006 season will not exist to me if that happens. I heard the White Sox could use some more fans. Have at it! I'd much rather it was you Superfan. Then you could tell every one of them about what it takes to be a true fan. Come down off the horse already would you? woah - please direct your hate towards cards fans please.
  13. I'd be all over him with his stuff - I've always like Clement. Worst case he's a #3 starter who eats innings. His only problem is he seems to wear down as the season wears on but managed right I think he could be very good. edit - many grammar problems, i'm drunk I'm not drunk, just can't type very well, and I agree, I'd take him back. Especially "IF" Boston would pay a portion of that salary. Very hung over today.
  14. Complete failure or not, it was a good trade for the RedSox. I agree, given the information the Sox have in the present I think they made the right choice no matter what happens 2-3 years from now.
  15. Hell freezes over? Sorry that was trollish but I couldn't help myself.
  16. I'd give him a minor league deal.
  17. If it's true nice pick up for the Cubs. John is a useful player who knows his role.
  18. and now they're paying more for him than they offered at the time. it's hilarioius. i'm sorry, but OM is a moran! a moran with a lot of cash, but still a moran. If I were a Mets fan i'd be pissed. Talk about no game plan...
  19. Why didn't the Mets just sign Delgado last season?

  21. Doesn't he have like 2/14 left on his contract? Considering the SP market I would take him in a heartbeat (even for the Cubs). He was my top choice for the Cards last offseason.
