  1. Considering the Marlins goals (getting prospects and dumping payroll) they did a great job. Look, they knew they couldn't contend next year so they went all out with their dump. Why would get rid of only some guys and maybe be a .500 club?
  2. Any Card fan who'd do that deal should be strung up and shot.
  3. Considering what CPatt makes I think an OK bullpen prospect would be his trade value.
  4. If I was a Cub fan I'd trade Cpatt for Marquis in a heartbeat. BTW, nice sig
  5. Or how soft this team may have become. Say what you will about Dusty's teams but they are never soft. You didn't notice the 2004 and 2005 teams? They folded like a soft blanket. I meant in a "sticking a ball in a guys ear" sort of way. That's just stupid, not tough. This team isn't tough. That '03 team had some toughness. But this team has been weak minded (they let the announcers affect them, and collapsed repeatedly against bad teams) for 2 years. To say Dusty's teams are never soft is as silly as saying Dusty plays deep into every October, or Dusty's teams never win. Maybe so, when he said the team was soft I thought it was just in regards to willingness to throw at a guy.
  6. Hah, remember Dusty's first series against the Giants as the Cubs manager? They hit Bonds like 5 times. That was freaking sweet!

  9. Because of money I pick Taveras (assuming I could use him as a bench player). If I had to start one? Pierre, money be damned.
  10. I think they could get Abreu or Tejada. It's just not likely. If they want to give up Zambrano or Prior, which isn't going to happen. For what we are offering (Walker, Williams, Patterson, Welly, Novoa, etc.), I repeat anyone who thinks the Cubs have a shot at Manny, Abreu, Dunn, or Tejada is delusional. They could also trade Aram, Murton, etc... I doubt it'll happen, but we don't know.
  11. I hope he's not coming back - I want a draft pick from the Giants.
  12. I think the 40 page Bobby Howry thread was out of control. There have been hundreds (guess) of pages on Dunn with no basis for fact. How is this any different? In any case, none of it has any bearing on what actually happens, so what difference does it make? I apologize if that's not what you are getting at nolan, but I'm getting a little tired of hearing people say "Don't propose Dunn trades, it will never happen." So what? Who cares? This is an interesting philosophical discussion so whether it could happen or not is pretty irrelevant. I just think these threads are an excuse for members to argue with each other for absolutely no reason cause he won't be a cub. If you want to argue, argue about REAL POTENTIAL MOVES, OR MOVES WEVE ALREADY MADE. What what do you want me to do, work? Now that's just foolish. I really don't see the big deal. In fact, it's one of the things I like about this board (the in depth analysis and arguement about something that will probably never happen). It's interesting for me to read, and sometimes, participate in. I hear ya - I'm a friggin' Cards fan and I come here for interesting baseball discussions. Cards Talk is mind numbing - Soriano is a top teir stud over there.

  15. How much $ would the Cubs have left after the deal? And now is where I regret my laziness in updating my contract info. Quick and (definitely) dirty calculation says that they would have about 12 million to fill RF, a SP if Z/Prior/Wood/Maddux/Rusch isn't good enough for you, and the remainder of the bullpen and bench(Everyone except those that have guaranteed contracts) If that's how much $ the Cubs would have left then no doubt I'd do the deal.

  17. They should be though because they will never overtake NY or Boston with their core. None of those guys you list CPatt, Hill, Williams, Pie, Cedeno is likely to ever be a difference maker. Tejada is for 2006. Normally I agree with you but I think you are crazy if you pass up a chance to win in 2006 to keep those four. Oh I agree, I think the O'sshould be in dump mode - I just don't think they see it that way. If I were the Cubs I'd pull the trigger. even if they were in dump mode, I don't think those prospects would generate enough excitement. Only Pie has star potential and that seems pretty unlikely at this point (I hold out hope given his age). Yeah a lot of it depends on how you'd feel about Pie. I'm not very high on him either.

  19. I've said this before but I think the O's would be looking for another impact player not prospects. They are not in salary dump mode.
  20. This is what I've been talking about the entire thread. Tejada isn't THAT good. 12th highest VORP in baseball last season? The guy is really good. That said a guy like Aberu would be a better fit for the Cubs considering their hole in RF.
  21. Is JH still looking for a SS? I thought he wanted Furcal because he was a "true leadoff hitter" but they got that with Pierre. His comments at the winter meetings lead me to believe he was now looking for a bat in the OF.
  22. I was going to write the same thing but I thought it would be trolling.
  23. Gammons has a small item about Bradley and the Cubs today here
  24. I was just on another message board where they were advocating trading Aram for Miggy. Someone told me I was dumb when I posted that Aram was a better hitter. That's actually an interesting trade idea. I don't know if it makes sense for the Cubs but the player exchange is interesting. Don't think the birds need a 3b but maybe a dh. Nah, Javy Lopez will DH. I just thought it was interesting from a player value stand point. In a "who has more pure value" sort of way.
