  1. If the Cubs did deal for a starter, I assume it would be for another TOR type (to minimize playoff variance as much as possible.) Having Jose Fernandez start game 3 of the NLCS against Maeda or Samarzjia or whomever seems like something I could get behind.
  2. Good grief. Straight up for Salazar?
  3. I'm guessing cubswin.
  4. I don't want Contreras to get called up, but I really want Contreras to get called up.
  5. Was clicking around ESPN and came across the headline "Cardinals embrace intangibles in 'statement' loss to Cubs" . I read it and re-read it before coming to the conclusion that it was the greatest headline I've ever read. Exactly the kind of thing I would fantasize about in 2012.
  6. I'm not sure he has the best idea at the plate yet. His approach is solid and his eye is very good, I think. I just get the feeling he isn't the best at thinking along with the pitcher. He's let some 2-0 and 3-1 fastballs freeze him, even during this little stretch. I think this will eventually improve and then we will see his true form.
  7. So nice that we can now just sit back and hope for a total humiliation game.
  8. Never realized Bumgarner has a real Adam Driver thing going on
  9. I want to see a comeback that turns into a run-differential game.
  10. I would be curious to see how he ranks in # of pitches after strike 2. Wish he had a 12-6 or something he could finish guys off with occasionally, otherwise I don't see how he's ever going to consistently go more than 5 or 6. Probably my favorite pitcher, though.
  11. I would have bet my life we weren't getting out of that.
  12. Arenado is not really comparable to 24 yr. old Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera had just put up 3 seasons of > 150 OPS+ in Miami. Arenado's best has been 123. Yes, Arenado is a GG defender at 3rd but they are not in the same ballpark offensively. I accept that a Trout trade would be unprecedented. Soler/Contreras/Almora/Happ/Torres is an unprecedented package. One that blows away what the Marlins got for Cabrera. It would completely revitalize the Angel's depleted system. I'd be willing to add Volgelbach and substitute any pitcher they wanted for any of those included if it came to that, but the law of diminishing returns and a desire to see as much "homegrown" talent as possible win it all would keep me from going any further. Just my opinion.
  13. Going back and looking at superstar trades in the past, I really don't think it would take quite so much. Soler/Contreras/Almora/Happ/Torres would be basically unprecedented. 4 top 100 guys + a cost controlled, high ceiling MLB bat?
  14. I've been his staunchest defender and my patience is growing thin Then I'll take that title.
  15. He just had a fantastic 10 pitch PA in which he should have been on 1st.
  16. I guess what I'm saying is that they both slot in perfectly with Fowler leaving and Ross retiring. I think this lineup is tailored perfectly to allow a guy like Almora to break into the majors.
  17. I still say Soler is going to be a monster by July.
  18. I can't articulate how happy I am that Albert has come around. Adding Contreras and Almora into the 2017 lineup is a beautiful thing.
  19. Give me Salazar over any of them. I've been watching him when I can and it sure seems like he is taking that next step toward Arrietaville. Ridiculously hard to hit and almost impossible to take deep. He's got a couple Cy Youngs coming. Arrieta Salazar Lester in the playoffs with this lineup and it's all over.
  20. 3 years from now he'll be 25.
  21. Now it's time for Javy to do what he was born to do. If Soler isn't going to be giving dong lessons 2x a week as I thought he would, then I'd like to see Baez blow up and take this offense to the omega level.
  22. Yep, this team is winning 100+. I feel bad for the angels.
  23. By having a log with hands trying to guard PnR. Unfortunately that old log is "part of the core" and will likely get re-signed using all the extra 2016 cap space. I swear, Dusty Baker would fit right in with the think tank running this team.
