  1. This is the real thing. Dusty will help.
  2. I believe tomorrow is the last day off until the ASB. Seems pretty rough.
  3. How much more is Miller going to be worth vs. Abad over the next 5 months?
  4. I'm starting to become giddy thinking about Contreras in this lineup next year. Where do we think he's going to turn up in mid-season lists?
  5. I feel almost exactly the same about the current state of the Bulls as I did about the '06 Cubs.
  6. Feel like the Phillies might get slapped with a Baez dong today.
  7. You've seen this young man Schwarber hit a baseball? I have been savoring every last moment of this glorious season so far but I still feel a pang when I imagine the lineup card with that monster in it. Unless it's Machado/Harper/Trout, I don't want him going anywhere.
  8. Abad is exactly the type of guy they should target (assuming he really has solved his problem with HRs) Lefties are hitting .111 and have a .286 OPS against. I'd much rather see Black + for Abad than give up a top guy for Miller.
  9. All of a sudden I'm really enjoying this.
  10. If the Cubs did deal for a starter, I assume it would be for another TOR type (to minimize playoff variance as much as possible.) Having Jose Fernandez start game 3 of the NLCS against Maeda or Samarzjia or whomever seems like something I could get behind.
  11. Good grief. Straight up for Salazar?
  12. I'm guessing cubswin.
  13. I don't want Contreras to get called up, but I really want Contreras to get called up.
  14. Was clicking around ESPN and came across the headline "Cardinals embrace intangibles in 'statement' loss to Cubs" . I read it and re-read it before coming to the conclusion that it was the greatest headline I've ever read. Exactly the kind of thing I would fantasize about in 2012.
  15. I'm not sure he has the best idea at the plate yet. His approach is solid and his eye is very good, I think. I just get the feeling he isn't the best at thinking along with the pitcher. He's let some 2-0 and 3-1 fastballs freeze him, even during this little stretch. I think this will eventually improve and then we will see his true form.
  16. So nice that we can now just sit back and hope for a total humiliation game.
  17. Never realized Bumgarner has a real Adam Driver thing going on
  18. I want to see a comeback that turns into a run-differential game.
  19. I would be curious to see how he ranks in # of pitches after strike 2. Wish he had a 12-6 or something he could finish guys off with occasionally, otherwise I don't see how he's ever going to consistently go more than 5 or 6. Probably my favorite pitcher, though.
  20. I would have bet my life we weren't getting out of that.
  21. Arenado is not really comparable to 24 yr. old Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera had just put up 3 seasons of > 150 OPS+ in Miami. Arenado's best has been 123. Yes, Arenado is a GG defender at 3rd but they are not in the same ballpark offensively. I accept that a Trout trade would be unprecedented. Soler/Contreras/Almora/Happ/Torres is an unprecedented package. One that blows away what the Marlins got for Cabrera. It would completely revitalize the Angel's depleted system. I'd be willing to add Volgelbach and substitute any pitcher they wanted for any of those included if it came to that, but the law of diminishing returns and a desire to see as much "homegrown" talent as possible win it all would keep me from going any further. Just my opinion.
  22. Going back and looking at superstar trades in the past, I really don't think it would take quite so much. Soler/Contreras/Almora/Happ/Torres would be basically unprecedented. 4 top 100 guys + a cost controlled, high ceiling MLB bat?
  23. I've been his staunchest defender and my patience is growing thin Then I'll take that title.
