  1. Quoted for Truth. On the bright side Kevin Kennedy said on XM that the fans in Chicago would love Isturis. "Switch hitter and good glove, liitle bit of pop in his bat." Kennedy should go into PR for Enron.
  2. Hey its the 1800's, at least you can sue her!!! If you dont get it go watch Blazing Saddles.
  3. Since we would be paying most if not al the rest of his salary, who would we get? I dont know the Padres system real well but a corner OF guy with some pop and OBP that was an AA or A guy would be nice.
  4. Cubs swept the Cubs??? Its the Cards I know :D
  5. I thought everyone wanted to play for Dusty? ::Sarcasm re my belief Dusty will get a new contract from the Cubs::
  6. I would also believe that the BB/K rate would have an effect by the hot streak. The ball looks as big as a pumpkin and soft tossed at that. When you are in that God gifted zone you crush the baseball. The check swings find a hole and the end of the bat bloopers become dying quail just over the IF head. In that time because you are hitting everything, you arent getting an opportunity to walk or strike out. You are putting the ball in play before that happens. On the otherhand when it looks like a golfball and the pitcher is making it act like a wiffleball, you are hitting defensively which should lead to deeper counts. Once you get to deeper counts and you are fighting every pitch you may foul off enough to get the pitcher give in and walk you just to end the AB if you dont chase the pitch away. Which is why I would believe that the A's and the Cubs are on opposite ends. The A's teach strike zone recognition. The Cubs teach hack and smack.
  7. I say we get Lieber so Dusty can run him back out there after an almost two hour rain delay and blow up his elbow again! Abreu would be nice too as long as you dont expect him to go homerun derby.
  8. He and Dusty are very much alike in that way -- they are loyal to individuals above the team. I think it is the college coach in him that way. He really hit Creightons players hard when he was running the draft, (IE: his old players), and now ND because he and the coach there are long time friends. I believe that he and Dusty are underdog fans at heart. That is why we have so many underdogs and "gritty" players on this roster. They so desperately want the underdog to win that they are shooting themselves in the foot by not getting the core that the underdogs compliment.
  9. Uggla is a ballplayers name too.
  10. Lets see who the kids are first, but at least being A ball players you cant say that he was traded for an AAAA player yet.
  11. Ok, thx. With leadership like like Baker, who is going to win a championship? Fixed it.
  12. I have really enjoyed my time here at NSBB. As soon as my paperwork for this year becomes official I am going premium to help support all the great work Tim and company have done for us. That said I am so happy that NSBB wasnt around when a kid named Sandberg and another named Sosa played for the Cubs at the start of thier time here. Sandberg was lost at the plate and field and Sosa, well lets just say that he took intersting routes to the ball sometimes. Not to mention that he might have single handedly contributed to the wind blowing out at least five miles an hour faster when he swung at the third stike 100+ times a year. Give Cedeno a break, he has played since winterball and is probably a bit tired. He should get a second wind to finish out the year and lets see how he does. On second thought lets throw in a new hitting coach pretty soon...
  13. That should make Bruce's day. Paging Mr. Miles...Paging Mr. Bruce Miles, you have a call from a Mr. Hildenbrand.
  14. He was DFA'ed by Toronto after blasting the management and skipper. He has been "missused" and no one had congradulated him on the second adoption by he and his wife. Basicly the bad blood he created by whineing to the media isnt his fault. Read for yourself. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060719&content_id=1564979&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
  15. Cop had to be White Sox fan.
  16. What I gathered from his chat is that he thinks that this is reflective of the current market for relief pitching. If so, we really should be selling some of our relievers. So Rusch might be underpaid?  If that is the case my wife throws lefthanded. I know from personal experierence. Maybe Ozzie can bring here in to face Blalock or something  Nah, she would miss him too.
  17. Like the title says I dont agree at all with Phil Rogers. However I do give him his props as he does have a course laid out and a willingness to state it. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/columnists/cs-060717rogers,1,5414445.column?coll=cs-home-headlines I personally think that stability for stabilities sake at this point is more counter productive than doing something.
  18. No Strong defensively up the middle and bashers in the corners. A strong glove guy does not mean he has to be an orphan from OBP or OPS. Move Jones to center and find a basher for right and Murton becomes an OPS compliment guy for the two hole and or 7/8 slot. Murtons approach is very good for a two hole hitter if you can keep the people who want him pulling everything away from him. While Jones isnt a gold glover in center I dont think it is any worse than with Pierre where anything hit into the gaps and CF automaticly allows the runner at first to go to 3rd.

  20. I am with Mojo Pin. Dusty is here through the end of the year. Short of trying to steal Hendrys doughnuts, then I think Hendry will fire him.
  21. I saw that game and Francour was stuck in the 4 hole to boot. I personally thought it was a great managerial move when I saw it. Not only are you getting the butterflies out of the way but you are also giving the kid a big pat on the back. Here you go tiger, go get em. I dont think I could ever see Dusty saying that to any of the kids.
  22. I saw the Maddux post game conference. He was being pressured with questions about it and was just trying to be very diplomatic. He further said, "I've been in this game long enough and I don't believe what is on sportscenter." He was talking about trade rumors. Then he went on to try to explain and I'm paraphrasing here that people just need to let it play out and see what really happens. He then said I love Chicago , love the fans and this where I love to play. Edit to add: He also said how great the organization has been to him, but oddly enough they don't print that in the paper. Thanks for that info. Thats what you get for living in the sticks in Tennessee. Bad news sells newspapers so no real suprise why they didnt print it.
  23. Actually in the article didn't Maddux say he was fine with whatever the Cubs wanted to do with him? I may be reading a bit to much into the statement with what is going on, but with everything else that is happening, I think he is saying I want out of this train wreck. That is a huge change from previous statements where Maddux has said he would like to finish his career here. Winning breeds a good attitude. Losing breeds unhappiness. The leadership, or lack of, a team can make the first stronger or the later worse. In this case I believe it has gotten worse.
  24. Thank You Vance for hitting the nail on the head. :Loud Applause: =D>
