  1. No, thats Jimmy Anderson you are thinking about.
  2. The Tigers board where the link for the player we recieved was from hates this trade. The best coment so far is; "Wait, you mean we traded for the worst player in baseball?"
  3. I wouldnt bet against him telling Baker he was good for 25 -30 pitches today if he is needed. With Dempster extending 3IP with 50P dont think Baker may not lean that way.
  4. I really love Santo on the radio. Yes there are more "polished" teams out there but they are doing thier job. Santo is doing something he loves and it shows. I wouldnt want a "detached professional" view of the game. I want Ron to be Ron and be as up or down as I am about the Cubs. This is no knock on Len and Bob, but they cant speak truth in the TV booth. Listen to Ron when he is being serious about various short coming of the Cubs players on the field. He has savaged Baker from time to time in a nice way, and coming from a guy who should already be in the HOF, the players and Baker cant complain about him. He has been there and done it. It kicks the prop of you have never played at this level so you dont know right out from under them. Get rid of Ronnie? Heck no!!!! Fire Baker and turn Ronnie lose in the dugout for the rest of the season. As soon as Santo starts telling Jones to hit the cut off man or sit on the bench you will see a team that starts to get its act together on the field IMO.
  5. I would say when Giardi says "the Yankee way" he is talking about doing things right. I believe it is the same as saying "the Oriole way" back in the days of Earl Weaver. If that means playing baseball the right way, I am all for that. I could live happily with 25 bad children if they played the game the right way, betting that all of you could too. As far as getting on your best player for dogging it despite the stats they are putting up; Sosa, Bonds, any other over paid Princess anyone? If Girardi believes in playing the game right there is only one way to play, the right way. Cabrera may think he is a horses rear, but 20 or so other guys on that roster respect Giardi for that.
  6. Ill take the over at 13 on pitches the Cubs see in the First inning.
  7. So you're telling me Joey Cora cares more about Z's arm than Dusty? You may be on to something there. :-k
  8. Mine keeps me from getting bored. Now if I could teach it play chess....
  9. I want to second this porton of CubZ99's statement. I was recomending a book to a friend a few weeks ago with about the same recomendation. Thank you for treating us like adults, and smart ones at that. Even if we dont act it here sometimes.
  10. The injury history and the incresing frequency of them worry me. If he was signed to a one year incentive deal I could live with it, but wouldnt be happy about it. At this point I would prefer to wait on the non-tender list and see who is there before bringing Edmonds back up again.
  11. Working for 3 years in a AAA clubhouse I had about 30 or so trips up to the ticket office to quietly add "friend (s)" to the pass list. The GM was not a happy camper when two of the "HOT" friends decided to re-enact the precious evenings adventures while "watching" the game. I was told that AAA was really tame compared to the Florida leagues and AA. There the groupies would hit on the clubbies hoping to use them as in in to meet the players. Or as the skipper said, "What happens in the clubhouse, on the road, and in your apartments stays there. Someones wife won't understand."
  12. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/baseball/marlins/sfl-807mikeb,0,4240637.column?coll=sfla-sports-marlins The basics of the article are that Loria was ragging on the umpire and Girardi asked him to stop. Loria then lened in the dugout and blasted Girardi acording to some; some say he didnt. After the game Loria cleared out the clubhouse and had a meeting with the players and coaches for 75 min. Others say it was just the opposite. The feeling in the clubhouse is that Girardi has an out if the Cubs job comes open. Let the spasms of speculation here begin.
  13. Soriano, Dunn, Kearns, et al will not be with the Cubs next year. Izturis and Cedeno are the keystone combo next year. Pierre will lead off unless he goes else where. Lee is a possability but he will be expensive and in the long run a bad signing. Decling production and increased cost at the end of the contract. Sheffield would be interesting if he would take a one year and an option contract. In the end you are looking at Pierre and Isturis hitting 1-2 150+games next year with Dusty back. Even if he doesnt come back, I dont know alot of managers that Hendry would hire that would hit Pierre and Izturis any differently.
  14. I don't know the ins and outs of the whole waiver situation, but is it possible he already knew what it would take since Hendry and Schuerholz are pretty good friends? I agree with Ronnie on this one. A quick phone call and you know what the price could be. Hendry has already said on WGN that they are looking toward next year. Hendry would see a claim on A. Jones as a move for a team in the race. It would be very bad form, breaking the unwritten rules, to put in a claim on Jones. That is a bunch of bull. (not towards what you say, but towards hendry if this is the case) Getting a CF like Jones would help you immensely next year and something that you absolutely have to explore. Who cares if it may make some team cry because they wanted him for a stretch run. It matters a great deal because, as unlikely as it seems now, we may be in the need of a waiver deal in the future to add a needed piece. We pee in some bodies soup this year, someone will pee in ours then.

  16. The thing that worries me about getting Schmidt is the Pitcher Abuse points rank right there with Prior and Wood. I say been there and done that.
  17. Your 2007 Chicago Cubs: 1) Pierre CF 2) Izturis SS 3) D. Lee 1B 4) C. Lee LF 5) Ramirez 3B 6) Jones RF 7) Barrett C 8) Cedeno 2B 9) Pitcher That is my "Dusty" lineup. Personaly I flip Jones and Barrett. Bench Perez IF Pagan OF Blanco C I would like to list Nevin here but that ain't gonna happen. Two more mystery players. One corner IF guy along Mabry lines and maybe another OF. I could live with that lineup, but the bench scares me.
  18. Padilla or Wolf would be interesting as a middle guy. Wolf would give us two lefties in the rotation if Marshall is there next year, and I expect him to be. I am of the opinion that Prior will be counted on to be the #2 behind Z. Should he be is the question. I mean his bad luck has to change sometime dosent it. I would think Marmol would be an electric #5 for us. He goes into the 5th almost every start and has good stuff. Plus with all the walks compare him to all the other #5's in the league. He is still better than most. I could live with this rotation. 1) Zambrano RHP 2) Prior RHP 3)Padillia RHP / Wolf LHP 4) Marshall LHP 5) Marmol RHP If we do end up with Wolf then I think you flip Marmol and Marshall just to keep the other teams from seeing back to back lefties. Take the money you dont spend on the big name free agent pitcher and get Lee to play LF. I personally take a few young pitchers and try to find another corner OF power bat in a trade. Or take a risk and get Sheffield for RF if Baker is rehired because "he can handle vets". Edited to add the last thought.
  19. Get away day too. I am guessing the strike zone for game two will be big.
  20. Let me tell you about the time I was called a "ni***r honkey" by a black player after I blocked off the base on a pickoff. If I may be allowed to restate your post; I doubt you could find a single person who hasn't had a simular experience at some point. That is the way the world is.
  21. It is a sad story just not in Chicago but in the world. Racisim is prevelant in every culture and sub set of that culture. As far as the Cubs go, I agree that they give you enough to yell at them about. Ones race, skin color, orientation, or beliefs are not among them.
  22. we'll see. if he doesn't qualify as a Type A, the only reason would be his switch to first for most of his ABs this year and Baker's use of Neifi over Walker both this year and last year. again, just shooting outselves in the foot. even so, I think it would be quite easy to pick a guy in the first three rounds that could put up Ceda's numbers in the Dom.L. or in AZ. And his injury limited his PT, which would affect the arbitration ratings. Ceda is a 19-year old throwing 99 mph with very limited secondary stuff, about what the Cubs could get out of a HS pitcher in the 3rd round area. As long as Walker doesn't become a Type A free agent, I have no problem with this trade. Raisin, thanks for bringing this point up. I hadnt thought of that aspect of the trade but it makes me like it alot more. I agree with you that Walker is a type B FA. That to me makes this trade a pretty good one for the Cubs. Especially if next off season Hendry jumps early and signs a type A and B again. We can look back and say at least that we picked up a draft pick early.
  23. The reports I've seen haven't mentioned any minor leagures at all. Same here. It appears the deal is Maddux + 2 million for Izturis. Amazing. Actually it is very incrediably sad.
