    Does anyone remember who Bochy worked for as a coach before they came over from Diego to manage the Cubs? He was well thought of, had done something with little payroll, and was "young" and "energetic". Not saying, just saying. As an aside getting to talk to J.R. about hitting was an interesting discussion. Preached the line drive. Drive the ball with backspin and you could hit them out all day.

    Managers can't do a ton of good. They can do a ton of harm, though. What would Piniella harm? Or in better words, what or who has Piniella provingly harmed in the past? Running into needless outs. Bunting when the player is a good hitter who could drive a double into a gap. Riding a starter to long or certain pitchers in the pen when up or down big. Creating a lineup by where a player plays rather than skill sets. You know all the things that Baker did while he was here.

    Plus $3.25M for Glendon. But if he retires like the rumors are then that comes off the books. Retirement means that his contract is no longer guaranteed.

    But that could very well lead to Joe Torre taking Piniella's place in Hendrys plan. I dont know which one is worse for the Cubs to hire, Torre or Piniella. Both of them are not good managers. I bet Torre retires. I agree. And if he doesn't retire, I do expect him to take a year off. Joe and Dusty together on Baseball Tonight???

    A very extensive search for a new manager. First and foremost on his plate for the off season. Has not talked to coaches. Has made himself available for them to come by and talk.

    Per WGN: New Jewel owners are going to build at least 18 more stores in the Chicago area. Continuing a program to get drop outs back into to school and setting up special smaller schools so those students can be given more attention.
