  1. I'd rather not trade for Willis, unless it came cheaply.
  2. I simply hope Hendry realizes that keeping Ramirez is just about the only likely way for us to compete next season.
  3. I think I'd faint if Hendry managed to trade Dempster without eating nearly all his contract. I'd almost rather trade for Sanders. RH power bat off the bench, platoon partner with Jones, and we save a pitching prospect. Howry or Wuertz closing through May until Wood is ready sounds fine. In fact this whole thing makes to much sense for it to happen.
  4. Source: http://bleedcubbieblue.com/ Is it me or is Hendry getting dumber and dumber with every passing day? Ugh. Why are you using some random speculation by a person not connected to the Cubs to attack Hendry? Did Hendry say GMJR is a target? Did Hendry say Murton is on the trading block? Let's citicize Hendry on his actions or his statements and not on someone's speculation as to what might happen in the offseason. All I said was ugh.

  6. my point is that teams can get to the playoffs and win despite their offense. if the cubs are going to be a better team it will be because of their starters & bullpen imo. You can get to the playoffs without having a lot of offense, but it would be much better to build a really balanced team than count on just pitching in order to win a championship. There are 3 moves that, if made, would make this team a playoff contender next season. In order: -Resign Ramirez or make sure he doesn't opt out. -Sign Soriano. -Sign Vicente Padilla. Soriano at 2B makes so much sense it's sick. I don't like Soriano's overall game, but he can slug. This team needs more XBH's, and 2B is the logical place to add it. It keeps Murton's OBP in LF, and allows for Izturis's non-offense to bat 8th. Padilla fits because he won't cost a mint like Zito or Schmidt, is a strikeout pitcher, and can be had for a reasonable price. Ramirez coming back should be the #1 Hendry priority this winter. Remove him, and barring an ARod trade we're playing for 2008. Oh, and no to Mark Loretta. No reason to have a backup 2B be anyone other than Theriot.
  7. Dan McGrath probably wants him back.
  8. If Ron Santo getting into the HOF means he'll retire from the broadcast booth then I'll spearhead the effort to stuff the ballot. If 99% of the baseball world recognizes that you should be in, and 99% of the Cub fans love you regardless then the validation of actually getting in shouldn't mean that much.
  9. Good for him. That doesn't make the trade better, or make him any more qualified to be anything but a color analyst.
  10. I'd rather have him work on pitch recognition. Seconded. I could give a hoot about his ability to steal if he can't get on base to do it.
  11. Blanco is completely useless on this team in 2007. There's no excuse not to save the $1m and have Soto be the backup catcher. At worst he handles Rich Hill and Barrett catches everyone else.
  12. Len, Great job working in the statistical views during the broadcasts. Any insight on Aramis Ramirez's offseason decision to opt out of his deal? Please tell me Hendry has this situation handled....
  13. Where are you hearing this "word"? Link or source please? Please, source. This would be terrible, terrible news. No Aramis means 2007 is almost certainly lost.
  14. So does Ramirez. Should we not pay him the big bucks because of it? I don't know that Ramirez is all that inconsistent. He's had 3 bad months out of 20 as a Cub. I don't think he has a consistency problem. Also, you asserted that Ramirez plays 3B poorly. I'm not sure that's the case anymore. I think he's improved enough to be average. And FWIW, Dunn and Ramirez are both extremely worthy of big money.
  15. I'm going to the game on October 7th against Columbus. Very, very excited to go to Toyota Park and see my first Fire game. Major propers to the wife for coming through with tickets for my birthday. :D
  16. I don't think MLS will let him out of his contract but it would be cool to see 3 Americans on a premier league team. Imagine how Clint Dempsey feels about that... Isn't Demp's contract up after this year? If it is he's as good as gone. My best guess is that MLS will hold onto Adu until he's done with his contract. His contract runs until the end of the 2007 season, which means he's stuck in neutral until the January 2008 transfer window, unless MLS does the right thing sooner. As an aside, I thought Adu's contract had an out clause in it...
  17. What an ignortant and icorrect comment from Rozner. I guess that must have been someone else hitting HR's in the NCLS and hitting .320 in 2004

  19. Totally agree, and have thought so for quite some time. I love when the Bears play the Falcons. That was my favorite game last season. That game was hilarious to watch. Vick was getting crushed, and his total lack of football skill was completely exposed. He'll make a slow defense or a bad team look bad, but if he's up against a good team with semi-decent linebackers, he's toast.
  20. Mike Vick is a terrible QB, there, I said it. Far and away most overrated player in the NFL.
  21. Heh...maybe if they weren't 0-3. Didn't think so either. But I wonder if they would even talk. Despite the hot start, I'm not sure Angelo would be all that keen on leaving Orton as the backup to Rex right now. I have to believe Tampa stills wants to salvage something out of this season, which was supposed to be a playoff season. I don't think Angelo would do that. As great as Rex has played, he's still never completed a full season. How about a 4th Rd pick for Orton? :P
  22. Edward K should subscribe to Shaun W's newsletter.
  23. The offensive play calling was pretty lousy all around. They didn't run enough, and they ran at the wrong times. Benson didn't get a single carry, despite Jones dancing around the holes that the O-line managed to open up. They didn't go deep once, although with the time Rex had, I'm sure it wouldn't have worked anyway. I swear it looked like Grossman would rather chuck the ball off his back foot while backpeadaling rather than get wrapped up on that turf.
  24. They were lucky to win that game...offense, defense, coaching all were terrible today. Someone needs to hide Lovie's red flag.
  25. I think Grossman is terrified of getting wrapped up on that turf, and he's made way too many throws backing up instead of setting his feet and standing in the pocket..
