  1. kctigers pointed this out last time it was brought up, but of the 34 walk increase, 13 of those were intentional. He did see a lot more pitches per at bat though as well. Not really. He saw 3.90p/PA in 2006. In 2001 he saw 3.84 and in 2004-5 he saw 3.65. Barely a career best, and not a gigantic improvement over 2004-5.
  2. Walks don't usually vary that much unless something clicks...at least I don't think they do. Hopefully I'm right but probably not. :P 16 IBB's in 2006-Actually more than all his other season's IBB's combined.
  3. Props to TJ, Benson, and Rex for preventing Off Rex from beciming Disaster Rex. Big rasberries to the run defense. That is going to kill us unless we fix it before January
  4. If he has a season like last year again, then I dont think there's a better FA option out there. Soriano's production last year is basically equivalent to Drew's career numbers. Right. Except that Soriano will more than likely play everyday. Drew's much more iffy. TT, Sori isn't the perfect player, but after Aramis he and Drew were the best available FA offensive players. We got one of them. He's not going to be a great on-base player, but if he slugs like he's capable of in CF, it's a signifigant upgrade to our offense without using tradable assets. By overspending (and JH did overspend again), he's put himself in a position to maximize the tradable assets he does have. I'm not going to kill him for this. It's a good sign at a crazy price.
  5. Rex with an odd game. The offense never really got going, but they took care of the ball and made the plays they needed to make. Wins is wins.
  6. Great point. This move also guarantees Pierre won't be resigned, which is worth an extra few million right there.
  7. Wow. I guess we're going to be really upping the payroll this season. I like the move if he's going to be playing CF. Not so much if it's LF. As far as the contract goes...I'm not too worried about it. 5/$80m is better than 8/$136m (that's insanity), but we've upgraded our team SLG% without using any tradable assets. There's still work to be done, particularly on the rotation, but this move is some kind of signal.
  8. Bears 31 Jets 10 Reverse reverse jinx
  9. I think Jones, Eyre, Izturis and Dempster would be better.
  10. I only know of the one time he was put on irrevocable waivers. Were there others?
  11. His defense can't be any worse than Alou's. Get a good CF and it would help hide a lot of his shortcomings.
  12. You're absolutely right, but you're also most likely doomed to be let down. I feel, or have felt, just like you. But I've come to the conclusion that they're better off not hitting a guy in the ideal spot than simply not getting the guy. If you hit him leadoff, you probably aren't getting your money's worth. But, you're still probably getting a very productive hitter. And that's the key. If the metrics are to be believed, batting order won't have much of an effect on the number of runs we score anyway. If we end up with Soriano or Drew, I'll be happy enough not to fret about where each of them hit.
  13. Paul Sullivan and Barry Rozner would have to form a support group
  14. I thought Nevin was a good clubhouse guy? Maybe he doesn't like the press all that much. If that is the case, then I don't blame Nevin at all. Yeah, I think Bruce's thing was that Nevin had a very haughty attitude with reporters. He mentioned Nevin having the "I'm a jock, you're not" kind of thing going on". The only other thing I've heard about Nevin is that he tends to gripe if he's not a regular.
  15. Cubs sign Drew. Drew means Murton still plays LF at a low cost. Drew means we can save the players we would trade for Manny and use them to deal for a player like Westbrook. I like Manny a ton, but I think Drew would be the better option for a team that still needs a lot of improvement in several areas.
  16. Probably not a whole lot. They were willing to let him go for free off waivers a couple years ago. I seriously think they'd let him go for Eyre, Jones and Dempster if we took all his salary.
  17. He's a corner outfielder, a .750 OPS and .111 IsoP are pretty awful. Yeah, Melky is basically Murton, or rather, a little worse. Nothing outstanding. Murton>Melky
  18. He had the luxury of being in the best lineup in baseball. He saw a lot of good pitches. Maybe he doesn't "suck", but he's certainly no trade centerpiece.
  19. Planning to trade Jones? yes. why would you be surprised? its been reported that he won't be here come april. It's not Hendry's M.O. to sell high. It's also not his M.O. to get rid of a guy he coveted so quickly.
  20. Melky Cabrera is a crappy baseball player. He shouldn't have that much value.
  21. Planning to trade Jones? I'd be very surprised if Jones were dealt.
  22. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/thebuzz/ Coletti would probably think that's "a little crazy." That's because Coletti is "a little stupid".
  23. So if Piniella wins the World Series this year with the Cubs, do you think it's automatic that he wins Manager of the Year? He'd likely be right there, since he'd have taken them from 66 wins up to aroung 90.
  24. Why oh why was a LH setup guy given any sort of NTC?? :x
