  1. Based on what? He got like a 15 on his baseball ACT. I think monkeys get around 10 or something. In fairness to Ronny, he forgot his calculator for the Math portion. Oh, well, it looks like Ronny is the poster child for No Shortstop Left Behind. We need to get his standardized test numbers higher so he can succeed at the major league level.
  2. Theriot did plenty to lose his job. He was a below average offensive player, and a passable defensive player. He's the definition of replaceable. He did nothing that screams "KEEP ME IN THE STARTING LINEUP". He can't hit for power. He doesn't hit for a high average. He isn't a big on-base guy. He's not fast. His range is acceptable. His arm is average. What about that skillset tells you he's a player that's worth anything more than a bench spot? As far as the PCL goes, I'll take the players like Soto, Cedeno and Pie who perform very well in it despite it being a hitter friendly league over a guy with a very limited ceiling like Theriot.
  3. I can't stand Twellman. Everything from his unnecessarily tight jersey and short shorts to his constant penchant for missing complete sitters. Can't win an aerial challenge to save his life either. They only reasoning I can see is that other than Clint there is zero experience up front and there really isn't any difference between him and someone like Josh Wolff who would be the alternative. Twellman is infuriating to watch. He's worse than Wolff, because at least Wolff finds himself in positions to score a few times per match. Twellman isn't good enough to play at the international level. He's the homeless man's Robbie Fowler, only if Robbie Fowler had less pace and a weak shot. I would have included Gabriel Ferrari before Twellman. Including Twellman just sheds light on how horribly thin our forward depth is. I mean, we're a nation of 300 million people, and currently our best striker is a converted midfielder.
  4. jaxx, I think the board consensus is that, considering what the Cubs' offense looks like going into 2008, is that they need to upgrade their production from CF, LF, SS and C. Ryan Theriot isn't good enough to prevent them from upgrading over what they got in 2007, and in 2007 Ryan Theriot was a below replacement level player. He was below average. That's not good enough. It's not 1985 anymore-SS's need to produce offensively.
  5. I like Guzan as well. Twellman, notsomuch. I don't see the utility in giving him callups, especially in Europe.
  6. He doesn't hit well enough for the outfield, and he doesn't field the position well enough to get away with diminished batting production. Aside from the fact that the logic is wrong, considering that he outperformed Theriot by a wide, wide margin, exactly what are you bringing his name into your argument for? It's actually making your already flawed argument worse. Murton and Theriot have nothing to do with each other.
  7. Based on what?
  8. This is insane. Are people really using winning % as a SS to try and prop Theriot's below replacement level numbers up? Come on. Think more critically that this. Ryan Theriot should not stand in between this team and an upgrade at SS. Ever, ever, ever. Even if that upgrade is a higher ceiling player like Cedeno.
  9. I hope Bailey and Arroyo aren't attached to their labrums.
  10. Did you consult Dr. Evil when drafting this seriously over-complicated scenario? How about you simply sign A-Rod be done? Ahh, yes. If only "simply signing ARod" would magically create a leadoff hitter for the club, I would be all for it. Leadoff hitter isn't a position. Trying to fill it has screwed us in the past.
  11. Not only do the terms "True Leader" and "Bleeds Blue" mean nothing, but it takes something special to be fired after one season on the job. Such as destroying Josh Johnson's arm, for one thing.
  12. This is something I could support. Mostly because I believe Ned Colletti is stupid enought to do it.
  13. I don't think it would be as much as a disaster as some of you are making it out to be. For one, Steve Stone criticizes alot of the big contracts Hendry gives out. Now it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know 4 players = $80 of a years salary = bad. But it would be an improvement over Hendry. He'd spend that same $80m on bad players. At least the 4 players we have making $80m are good. If my choices were Hendry and Stone, I'd take Hendry. And that's very sad.
  14. 25th Man. Nothing more.
  15. Having a .735 OPS isn't anything to tout. It's pretty awful for an OF. He's not that good defensively. He's lost all his power. I am not advocating giving Jones away, but if you find a good deal, you take it, because as Ping pointed out, you don't block Pie for Jones' sake.
  16. Say what you want about Stone, but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't pick up Trachsel's option. He'd do other things that would likely be much, much worse. You have no idea what he would do. I don't want him either, simply because he has zero experience in this area. I've heard enough of his idiotic trade ideas to know he'd be a bloody disaster. Worse than Hendry.
  17. Say what you want about Stone, but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't pick up Trachsel's option. He'd do other things that would likely be much, much worse.
  18. The level of opinion in that article is staggering. If he thinks they should deal Pie, fine, but back up your argument with facts, not more opinion.
  19. There's no way in hell this can possibly be true. Because if it is, we're boned this offseason. 4.75m for players like this is exactly why we middle about in mediocrity.
  20. And who play SS in his idiotic fantasy land?
  21. If the Cubs hypothetically traded Lee, Marmol, Marshall and Pie for ARod, we would be better than we are right now. It all depends on the team. LAD could afford to deal (stupidly) Kemp, Loney, and whichever other prospects Plaschke and Colletti hate today and they'd be very competitive for the next 3-4 years.
  22. I was thinking going forward with: -----------------------Jozy------------Rossi---------------------- -------------------------------Deuce------------------------------ ---------Beasley-------------------------------Donovan--------- -------------------------Bradley/Feilhaber------------------------ ---Pearce/Bornstein--DeMerit/Onyewu--Boca--Cherundolo--- ------------------------------Howard------------------------------- I know people hate Bornstein, but go ask Lionel Messi if he is any good. Then the question of where does Freddy play if he blossoms? We have a lot of attacking mids. If Freddy blossoms, he'll probably be better than our 3 attacking mids are, so he can replace whichever. However, if he does blossom, it's a good problem to have. It would be nice to have a surplus of attacking, world class players.
  23. Trading ARod for ARam doesn't improve the team all that much. It could. But not as much as they need to be truly great. I'd rather them try and be great. If you're looking at trading pieces and players, I'd deal them Lee, Marmol and others for ARod. But NY won't trade him. They'll let him walk away in a manner that you described. How can the Yanks trade ARod if he can just walk out of his contract? That was my point. NY isn't going to trade him.
  24. Why would the USSF waste it's time? Meh, it's just a phone call. I doubt it is high on their priority list. Although it would be fun to kick around a lineup with two legit strikers. Our midfield would be packed if we moved Clint back. The problem with moving Clint back is that so far USSF and Bradley are too stupid to realize that having 3 of the same midfielder on the field is dumb. If you have 2 real strikers, Clint could play in the center of midfield, and you could pick one of Bradley, Feilhaber or Clark to play behind him, and put Donovan just above him. Yeah, I'm talking 3-5-2.
