  1. Not nearly as much as people think, thanks to conventional wisdom? Lee is more expendable than Aramis. If you're going to trade one, trade Lee to LA for Kemp or Loney.
  2. Upgrading the offense needs to be the first priority. If this is done, and there's room in the budget, I would make an attempt at signing him. Keep in mind going from the AL East to the NL Central would give him a boost as far as effectiveness.
  3. I think the troubling thing with Paxson is that he's had chances to deal for top tier players, and in all three instances it seems like he hesitates at the "moment of truth", so to speak. It's as if he is apprensive about making a deal and breaking up the core. As others have pointed out, this team is pretty much what they're going to be, unless someone makes a big jump in development, or unless they deal for a difference maker.
  4. I guess Pax said the deal is dead.
  5. Because mortgage interest is tax deductible and you can invest the rest making higher returns than the 6% mortgage rate. Fair enough. How unique is the name "Alex Rodriguez"?
  6. I wish that were true. Think about it, though. Why would he possibly need to be underwritten for a loan? Why wouldn't he buy outright?
  7. Nothing new on this front, I'm assuming?
  8. In the interest of fairness, England has more of a "right" to host a World Cup before the US does. The last WC in Englad was in what, 1950? We did just get one. I think the Cup will be here in 2022.
  9. Agreed to a certain extent.
  10. Given the makeup of the team, I'd rather Kobe replace Deng than Gordon replace Hinrich. You have to look at the overall composition of the team. We're either going to have Gordon (who sucks at the point and is a defensive nonentity) or Thabo (raw, inexperienced, poor FG%, turnover prone) playing the point. How did Jameson Curry look in preseason? I didnt get to see many games, but isnt he a point? Also you still have Duhon, who can play it adequately. Duhon? JamesOn Curry? That's not a realistic backup plan. I'd really make every effort to hold onto Kirk. I understand about needed to balance salaries, but man.

  12. Ben Wallace is a defensive liability on most nights. It's not 2004 anymore.
  13. No, he isn't. Not even close. He's a good complimentary player. I'd love to have him and Kobe on the same team. Hinrich plays great defense, hustles, and shoots decently. However, if giving him up means we get the best basketball player on the face of the earth, then sign me up. You're wrong. His numbers compare favorably to Chauncey Billups. He's the best defender on the team by far, and a good point. He's a better player than Gordon. This team would not be as good without him. Kobe can replace his defense. Kirk is wildly inconsistent on offense from night to night, and he is prone to turnovers himself. I like Kirk, and would wish he could stay and play with Kobe, but Id give him up in a minute for Kobe. You're also trading your team captain. I like Kobe. I want him on the Bulls. I'd give up Deng before Kirk, and Gordon and Thomas before both.

  15. I don't like giving up Hinrich. He's wildly underrated.
  16. Don't also forget that Magic is the Lakers VP and could easily be trying to gain leverage in trade negotiations. Kinda strange timing that he also mentioned that the Lakers are looking to trade for Jermaine O'Neal at the same time. He's trying to salvage some leverage. I don't think it will work. If we could avoid giving up Deng and Hinrich, I'd be thrilled. Gordon/Thomas/Wallace/Duhon etc.
  17. We have Jones, Dempster, Blanco, Eyre, Ohman and Marquis tying up a decent amount of useless or redundant payroll. If we could move half of these guys, it makes it a little more likely we could land ARod. This is Hendry's chance to make up for the wasting of millions of dollars on garbage over his tenure.
  18. I called it. What the hell is wrong with him? I see nothing wrong with Hendry saying good things about an employee. I'm sure if the right players come up he'll entertain the idea of a move and make it if he thinks it'll make the team better. IMO, Hendry's more concerned about CF and RF and filling those holes. Or, he could do what most GM's do and say "We're always looking to improve".
  19. I called it. What the hell is wrong with him?
  20. See, it's discussions like this one that make the NBA CBA and it's contracts stupid as hell. Poison Pill provision. Base year compensation. Matching salaries. Guaranteed contracts. Larry Bird exceptions. It's seriously stupid. Dumber than any major sport.
  21. I suppose there's some merit in buying low with Crisp. He's as available as one can get. However, his salary, given our overall needs and potential lack of funds makes him a relatively poor investment. If Boston were to pick up a good portion of his salary, or take back Eyre or Dempser or one of our other crap contracts, I'd not be opposed to it.
  22. Benfica up to second in the table, still well behind Porto. I think they are like 5 points up with a game in hand. Freddy has 3 goals in 163 minutes. It's getting to the point where they have to be running out of reasons to not start him. If the incumbent's name wasn't Rui Costa, he would be
  23. I can very easily see Jim Hendy being quoted sometime in the next 2 weeks as saying something like "We're happy with Ryan Theriot at SS."
