  1. Freddy, right now, is further along in his development than Geovany dos Santos at Barca. What's even more impressive is that he's scored 5 times in very limited minutes. I'm very glad he's cap-tied.
  2. Nothing makes me more aggravated than when commentators talk about Donovan being the 'Nats all time scoring leader. Not only is it misleading as he has had many more games with which to pad said stats, but how many of them have come on PK's? How many were garbage goals against like St. Kitts and Nevis? As soon as he scores from the run of play against someone other than Mexico in a meaningful game, wake me up. As far as Jozy forcing his way out of RBNY, I don't think it's possible.
  3. See, now that's stupid. A 2 year deal to Wood or a Linebrink like contract to some random reliever?
  4. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=484393&cc=5901 Well if he wants it to happen and the money is right, this better happen. I don't really care what the Red Bulls say. MLS has stood in the way of other guys wanting to leave for Europe...
  5. I woulld have to say all three areas would need to be addressed, but off the cuff, I'd say Cesc Fabregas and either Richards, Theo Walcott, Robin van Persie, Tevez or Frank Ribery. I'd also consider David Villa and Wayne Rooney. Fabregas and Richards, I think, would be the best fits for us...
  6. Okay, interesting hypothetical: Let's say there was some sort of international draft where you could select any 2 players from any country, cap tied or not, to play for the USMNT through the 2010 World Cup. There are only 4 players you can not select: Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Ronaldino and Leo Messi. Who are your two choices?
  7. For a mid market team to commit $12m to a guy who's going to appear in maybe 60 games is a bad, bad, bad idea. And for at least 4 years, maybe 5. Paying a reliever that much money is stupid. They are way too volatile a commodity to pay that much for anything less that the cream of the crop in all of the game.
  8. With Hendry, you know the latter is what is going to happen. Has there been an offseason with him in charge where he didn't throw a 3 year deal at a reliever? Kerry is just as good an investment as anyone else is out there, and bringing him back for 2 years opens up a lot of flexibility for Hendry. Last offseason he didn't throw a 3 year deal at a reliever. When was Ryan Dempster extended?

  10. Probably, although the good showing in Copa America probably factors in as well. FIFA rankings are useless, though. You know that.
  11. This is correct. The upside is worth the guaranteed money. I'd not hesitate to give him 2/$10m.
  12. I love how Sox fans rationalize this horrid deal by saying how bad their pen was last year, and that this provides veteran stability. Let's see how they feel in 2010.
  13. Wow, that's the opposite of true. Unless you get lucky at the right time, it takes great players for a team to be great.
  14. Another fine addition to the discourse, Mr. Rozner. It's not 2002 anymore. Aramis isn't lazy.
  15. Wow, nice going, England. Beckham was class, though. I geniunely feel badly for him, as you have to believe he'd cut off his foot to win England a tournament.
  16. I dont know if he is past his prime, IMO I think he is in the last stages of his prime. I agree, he will be wildy overpaid and for that I agree, Just say no! If he signs a 4 year deal, you might get you money's worth for 1 year of it. No thanks.
  17. Andruw Jones is past his prime, and is going to be wildly overpaid. No thanks.
  18. Not really, given his probable role.
  19. Especially without Landy stretching it. Beasley disappeared and playing 3 defensive mids was a bad idea. The other problem is the continual playing of your best offensive weapon out of position with his back constantly to goal, and no midfield support. I don't know why we need to have so many defensive mids on the field all the time. Because our back line was getting boned and they were liking it. Then we should stop playing scrubs like Califf, and only play 1 of Gooch or Bocanegra. How many liabilities can we fit in our back 4 at once?
  20. What's his G.R.I.T.F.actor? Seriously, he sucks.

  22. All I have to say about the US/South Africa game is that Bob Bradley is not a great tactician, and our style of play isn't going to work on a field that's as wide as a matchbox. Seriously.
  23. When you say Cabrera "isn't all that good," do you mean you think he's unlikely to reproduce his 2007 season? Because he was the best shortstop in the AL last year by WARP3, barely edging out Young and Jeter. . Yes, this is what I mean.
