  1. I know Garland isn't great, but this is still a really stupid trade. Cabrera isn't all that good, and I don't see how the White Sox are any better after this deal. Why resign Uribe if you're going to trade for Cabrera?
  2. Huh. Why would Boston want those 4 players? Why would Boston need to "shed payroll to afford Lowell"? I'd like that deal from our end, but there's just no way that's true.
  3. Ooooo...Jozy @ Real=gooooooooood news. Also, I've been super busy lately. What time and channel is the South Africa game on tomorrow?
  4. This really is turning out to be one crappy night.
  5. Barry Bonds is history's greatest monster.
  6. fixed While Noc does it too, Hinrich is ridiculous. I still think its hilarious USSoccer said he'd rather keep Hinrich than Deng. Hinrich is a terrible shooter, terrible ball handler, and he cant stay out of foul trouble. I stand by it. as Kirk goes, the Bulls go. He's probably their most important player.
  7. I'd rather play the semi-talented hacks from Mexico over and over again than the untalented hacks that make up most of the rest of CONCACAF. I agree that we play Mexico way too often now, but in this particualr instance it's understandable. -Altidore, Adu, and Szetela all need to be exposed to the matchup, and better to to it in Texas in Feburary than at the Azteca in May when it really matters. -We're not a top 10 team, so we shouldn't really be jaunting over to play Holland, Italy, or Germany or anything like that just yet. EVen if you play a team like that and get a result, it's misleading. I'd like to see more games against teams like Sweden, Switzerland, England, and COMNEMBOL (or whatever the hell it is) teams get scheduled, but after Brazil and Argentina you have a boatload of crap not terribly different from CONCACAF opposition. Having said all that, Mexico is going to beat us here sooner or later. I hope the USSF and USMNT fans are mentally prepared for that letdown.
  8. Hahahahahaha This is awesome.
  9. Also not a big enough of a difference to warrent 10-15 million more per season. IMHO Now factor in his age.
  10. This is high comedy. -When has Alex Rodriguez ever, ever been described as a clubhouse cancer? The worst thing I've seen written anywhere is that he's aloof and image aware. -Postseason success means nothing, unless you're prepared to concede that Ernie Banks, Stan Musial and Ron Santo are all inferior players because they have no titles. -Manny Ramirez doesn't get charged for errors because he has no range, and therefore doesn't get close enough to routine plays to be charged for errors. They are both great hitters, but ARod is a better player.
  11. If the deal is Marmol and Cedeno and prospect for Crawford, fine. If it's Hill and Cedeno and prospect, I think we can do better than the Crawford upgrade.
  12. Which is fine. I still think that a good GM should be able to sell Gallagher and Marshall plus Cedeno. I still think that a good GM would be ale to get more than Gallagher and Marshall plus Cedeno. That proposal isn't feasible. You have to give up a proven MLB product to get a guy like Crawford. Marshall isn't that. Hill is. Although some of you aren't going to agree with the idea. Maybe you're right, although I still don't know why they wouldn't want the young pitching to be under team control as long as possible. Hill has, what, 3 years of service time?
  13. Which is fine. I still think that a good GM should be able to sell Gallagher and Marshall plus Cedeno.
  14. Bobby Hill and Matt Bruback for Aramis Ramirez Hee Seop Choi for Derrek Lee Both of those were salary dumps. I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't be able to see that if you're going to give up two very good, pre arb pitchers, you should be getting more back than a player like Crawford. He's good. He'll never be elite. If you're willing to part with assets like Hill and Marmol at the same time, you need to set your sights higher.
  15. This was brought up in the other Crawford thread, but I can't see why TB wouldn't want Gallagher/Marshall over Hill. Hill is far closer to arb than those other two. They need as much pitching under club control for as long as possible.
  16. He must have realized that South Africans sometimes sound like Germans, wet himself, and then decided he'd rather stay in the US and play a pickup game in Malibu.
  17. Based on what? He's nothing spectacular, but to say he can't play defense is absurd.
  18. I'd rather give a prospect like Pie the opportunity to fail at league minimum that accept overpaid mediocrity like Hunter and Jones would offer.
  19. Hunter sucks and Jones is past his peak. Neither are worth the money they'll get.
  20. Our soldiers dont deserve to be depicted this way, its beyond upseting its sickening. Cuban funded the production of this movie to the tune of 5 million dollars. He's done some backtracking on it lately though and had pieces of it edited. Maybe you should ready the blog entry on blogmaverick.com about this before freaking out. And as an aside, those particular soldiers absolutely deserve that type of depiction.
  21. We're also paying part of his contract. Horrible. Jesus, Hendry. Come ON. It's bad enough that we're taking the crappy Infante. But paying Jacque's salary is just stupid.
  22. It's called critical thinking. Jones' contract isn't as bad now that it's only 1 year, and the player we're getting back is pretty terrible. This isn't a good deal. Moves don't happen in a vacuum. That's why people aren't thrilled.
  23. The difference between ARod at $16-20m and ARod at $30m (not sure where you're getting $35-40m from) is $10-14m. Or, if you prefer, Jared Wright or Carl Pavano. That amount of payroll is nothing for your team. If you let ARod go, you're weakening your offense, so you're creating another hole to fill. I'm assuming he means that the contract would be back-loaded so while the average would be $30M a year, the last few years would be more than that. Not only can New York afford it, but in 10 years is that amount of salary really going to be that high?
