  1. Upton, Gomes, Baldelli, the Erstwhile Dukes, Young and that's off the top of my head. TB has no shortage of OF's.
  2. Maybe. You could tweak it. I just don't think they'd be all that interested in Hill, given his service time. They're going to want someone farther away from FA.
  3. From TB's perspective, they'll want as much pitching with as little service time as possible. Gallagher, Marshall and Marmol fits that bill. Yeah, we wouldn't be happy with the Cubs making that move, but Tampa and Chicago are quite different as far as motive to deal. Tampa is going to look for salary relief and cheap young pitching. The Cubs aren't as concerned about cost and just need some production. I wouldn't lose sleep if we made that deal. Marmol is a reliever who was overused this year and is at peak value. Marshall (to me) isn't anything special, and Gallagher is an unknown commodity. Put it this way: we've made dumber deals involving 3 players.

  5. Like others have said, Hendry's position is understandable. From Prior's point of view, financially speaking it makes some sense to grant the Cubs a 2009 option. Assuming he loses half of 2008 while gaining arm strength, 2009 would be a good showcase year for him. However, I've never gotten the sense that Prior has been happy here. The media have scapegoated him and called him soft at every opportunity, and the organization hasn't exactly been supportive. I hope he's back, but I could see him being cut loose.
  6. I can't believe it myself. We took his salary off Baltimore's hands (albeit for like 5 weeks) and gave up 3 (!) players for him. 3! It shouldn't matter who they are, either. 3 players is a lot for a 5 week rental, let alone for Steve Trachsel.
  7. I agree with you on Hill, but Marmol's value has never been higher, and relievers are a volatile commodity. We'd be selling high, and his absence wouldn't be missed as much as we'd gain from getting an impact bat. For the right price, I'd deal him without hesitation.
  8. I think you could sell TB on a package of people other than Hill. Maybe Gallagher, Marmol and Marshall/Veal.
  9. Didn't ARod have the same PR problems when he was a Free Agent the first time? I remember some really weird clauses in his contract that made him look kind of foolish when he signed with Texas. I'd think it's worse, now, don't you think? Yes, by far. I am curious on how much of this is a NY Press thing. They could over blow grass growing. Eh. I think it's definetly stemmed from NY, but it's becoming more of a national thing. Especially the $350m thing. It was obvious to me that Boras did that because ARod wanted out, but people are spinning that as "ARod is greedy and selfish".
  10. According to Bruce there aren't any posting fees b/c they are free agents. Well, then. That explains that.
  11. How are we supposed to be able to afford posting fees + contracts for both guys? I'm calling shenanigans.

  13. Tampa will want pitching. That's all they should want. They need another outfielder like they need another hole in the head. If I'm TB, I ask for Hill, Marmol and Gallagher to start with. I wonder if you could talk them into like Marshall, Veal and Marmol.
  14. Jesus, we traded 3 players for Steve Trachsel?
  15. Boras and Rodriguez have to realize that ARod is facing a big PR problem. I would be less shocked if he took a fairly low (for him) contract to prove his critics wrong.
  16. Abso-stinkin-lutely. I'd welcome 4-3 back with open arms. That's kind of how I feel as well. The good outweighs the suck.
  17. Hmmm... If LA ate half of Pierre's contract, would you take him if you got Kemp and Loney for Lee? Then spin Pie along with others to try for Cabrera or Tejada? I hate me some Pierre, but if getting him meant getting Kemp and Loney, I might...
  18. I cannot imagine this as being true. Cavs + Bibby < Bulls + Kobe Well to be fair, you forgot to add another factor on the Cavs + Bibby side... Not really. The Cavs, as currently constructed, with Bibby, are inferior to the Bulls with Kobe minus whatever we trade for him.
  19. I cannot imagine this as being true. Cavs + Bibby < Bulls + Kobe I don't see how Bibby would go from the Kings to Cavs. It only would make sense if the Cavs or Kings had something of interest for the Lakers. I don't see anybody on either roster who would be available that would be of interest to the Lakers. IIRC the idea was that LA would get Bibby and then flip him to Cleveland in a later deal. For what, who knows.
  20. No. They're saying that fans were flipping out because the Cavs getting Bibby in that deal would make them scary. It was being talked about on the show yesterday. Bibby 3 years ago, maybe. How is it that so many fans get hung up on a "name"?
  21. I cannot imagine this as being true. Cavs + Bibby < Bulls + Kobe
  22. Fixed. I agree 100%. That really is a move that needs to be explored. If Colletti is serious about adding veterans, then we need to assist him in adding them, especially if he's willing to dump on Kemp and Loney. I'd trade Lee and Marmol for both, honestly.
  23. Lee is more expendable than Aramis. If you're going to trade one, trade Lee to LA for Kemp or Loney. thats prolly true. Can Arod play 1st? if not, can Aram? It's one of the easier positions to learn in the defensive spectrum, if I'm not mistaken, although if you trade Lee for Loney you just have him play 1B.
  24. I hope it's something like "Wallace, Gordon, Noah and assorted crap for Kobe" Although if something were close to imminent, it would have broken elsewhere.
