  1. The only way that happens if the Bears get a 2nd rd pick in next years draft. Otherwise, giving away Olsen late round pick does not benefit the Bears. I rather hold onto Olsen then to give him away. Bernstein thinks they'll have to trade him. If they aren't starting him, and he can't play special teams, they can't hold onto him, or so goes his reasoning. Welcome to Madden 2011 where tight ends only play if they are #1 on the TE depth chart
  2. I think Mike Lincoln, Micah Owings, Kip Wells, Justin Lehr, Matt Maloney, and Travis Wood are also in the hunt for the rotation.
  3. Made his first appearance for Cincinatti today against the Royals. 2 IP 1H 3K 1BB 0R So, what day will he pitch his first game in the majors?
  4. The view from my football nerd friend is that Olsen is really a developmental player at this point and the best they'll probably get is a 4th rounder, maybe a mid 3rd if they try to trade him. He's not all too impressive according to the footballoutsiders receiving metrics at this point in his career. From watching him over a few seasons, I'd say he still has a ways to go and is a bit of a gamble for any team giving up a high pick.
  5. Gorzelanny gave up the HR, also hit EPatt and had a strikeout over 2 innings, 3 groundouts-1 flyout
  6. No, that's not how it works. Teams are allowed to offer more money to their own players. bird rights give current teams the ability to go over the cap to sign their own free agents, but only up to the maximum salary. and it only applies, obviously, if the team is close to the cap. the cavs aren't close to the cap, if we're really talking about lebron. in addition, current teams can offer 2.5% more in raises per year, but that only gives current teams advantages in years 2-6. however, if another team signs a FA, in year 4, they gain bird rights, meaning that they can offer the 2.5% raise starting after year 3. giving the home team a 2.5% advanatge in years 2 and 3 of any contract. not much of an advantage they CAN offer a 6th year, which other teams can't, though. Doesn't that mean that they have a decent advantage for the rest of the contract? The other team can't raise the ~5% that's already been hypothetically raised in years 2 and 3 plus the 2.5% in year 4, so the current teams salary will be larger than the new team in each year, and the difference will actually grow since you'll be raising 2.5% of a larger base.
  7. Snyder walks, forces the pitcher out play by play guy is reading some e-mail from a Cubs fan about Jake Fox

  11. Got the delayed play-by-play on the MLB At Bat app: Theriot Double Fukudome Walk Lee out to CF (Theriot to 3rd) Aram popout Wild pitch - Ryan The Riot scores Byrd pops out Not listening closely, but I'm pretty sure that TheRiot walked. His walk led off the game. The box has him 2/2 with a double, single and walk.

  16. i think it's worth mentioning that rape often has a lot more to do with power than lust
  17. Darn, Grand Rapids Rampage are dead.
  18. I have no concern whatsoever on how this affects the 2010 payroll structure. The fact that contracts can be broken makes most of this easier to manage. However, it's almost a lock that there will be a cap if/when the CBA is finalized, and my concern is that they will be in a tough spot 2 years from now because they've guaranteed so much to these guys. The desperation is obvious, and necessary. However, desperate decision makers are dangerous, and somewhat like what happened with the Cubs a couple years ago, a sudden splurge in spending may have a lasting effect when those purse strings are tightened later on. And you can guarantee the Bears won't always be this aggressive with the money. Remember, though, that we don't have two draft picks this year which typically tie up a lot of money over 4-5 years.
  19. Yeah, unless you are just practicing/working on it because its a spring training game, or trying to see what your team can give you (my point earlier in the thread). The way I see it, the goal of ST games is to see what your team is capable of and can give you, while the goal of of regular season games is to win. So, really, one shouldn't affect the other unless there is some wild success.
