    Then maybe LaRussa should hire Canesco, Bonds and Palmeiro as his base and bench coaches with Roger Clemens as his pitching coach and bring in Sammy as a motivational speaker. If so, don't let Sammy give lessons on how to cork a bat.

    I love how during the ALCS games those seats behind home plate don't seem very full. Saturday's game was a rpime example.

    The buttache on sports radio is amazing in St. Louis right now: -the Cardinals get swept in the first round -the University of Missouri football team got their clock cleaned on ESPN this last Thursday -the Blues lost their first two home games -the Rams are easily the worst team in the NFL.

    I'm genuinely bummed, and I haven't lived up there in over 10 years. It would have been really great for the city. Rio needs to get this. Madrid would just be silly. Plus, I want to be able to watch some events relatively live, rather than on 6-hour delay or in the middle of the damn night. I really don't think Rio can handle it. Chicago should have gotten it if it was based on merit. Now LA will try for 2020. Sigh. I've got a buddy who is half Brazilian and works in Rio. He says a Rio Olympics will be a massive failure. My bet is that the Salt Lake City winter games and the resulting scandal will keep the Olympics from US soil for a long while.

    Chris Carpenter hit a grand slam today and ended up with 6 RBIs for the game. That's a new record for RBIs by a Cardinal pitcher. Pixie dust.

    I got stuck doing the whole club level smoozfest work thing for the Rams/Packers game at the horrible Edward Jones Dome. It was a beautiful fall day, about 75 without a cloud in the sky yet I was stuck inside. At least the food and beer was included. I had to laugh about how the place was about 1/4 Packers fans. Even funnier was watching some Packers fans who after the game acted like beating a horrible Rams team was equal to destroying the 2007 Patriots.

    Cardinals pull ahead in top of 9th at Miller Park and win. Their magic number is down to 13. I'm praying they don't clinch against us next weekend. :beg:

    I hate that saying in regards to stuff like this. How about thinking about how YOU'D feel if you ever got there. It was a funny celebration. He wasn't taunting anyone, he wasn't talking trash, he didn't go way over the top. He was just celebrating with his teammates. Nothing wrong with that. It's only really entertaining if your team is good. Maybe they would have a better record if their pitchers, at least, spent the time spent practicing that broadway act .... on pitching? This. And when Prince gets a ball in the back next time they play, they shouldn't freak out.

Robbie Hummel I have a hard time buying into this rumor. Where did it even originate? Seems like a lot of detail needs to be filled in. Like first of all why would LaRussa even be considering leaving the land of the pixies? My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who said that LaRussa is a dead lock to be managing the Cubs next season.

    We'll see. His next start will probably be the same brilliance or a high ERA 2 1/3 inning disaster. Smoltz claimed that during the break he found his mistake when pitching to a high-school catcher. Apparently he was planting his foot too early and at a different angle. Thus it was throwing the rest of the mechanics off. If this is true it shows just how brilliant Smoltz is. Plus that Duncan has nothing to do with his possible turn-around.

    I hate Jerry Jones and I hate the Cowboys even more. Apparently he claims the thing is unmovable. I hope kickers peg that obnoxious screen all season long and costly changes have to be made.

    The Phillies are too complete to be stopped. Plus I think the've owned the Cardinals this season: something like 7-3 or 8-2. It will be a Phillies/Yankees World Series and ESPN will be orgasmic.

    Outdoor grass football is much better than synthetic field inside a garbage bag. But the Soldier Field turf is horrible. It's significantly worse than the high school field I played on. It's akin to the practice fields we used. It's a joke. And I'm sure that U2's huge stage and two concerts worth of people will do wonders for the turf at Soldier Field.

    That or if the white t-shirt was replaced with either a Ed Hardy or an Afflication shirt. Reeking of Axe Body Spray would also do it. Or be sitting with an incredibly hot Trixie who spends the entire game texting or chatting on her iPhone while wearing pink Cubs gear.

    Talking with some Cards fans who came over to annoy me, we figured either one of these could happen. -the first row or two of the bleachers will be replaced with grass or flowers. A number of the new ballparks have these barriers at their ballparks. -beer prices will be increased to cut down on drinking while not effecting revenue. Beers are more expensive in other ballparks. They're $9 and $9.50 here in St. Louis even though its brewed a mile away.
