  1. When you were just in trouble for a similar occurrence and you have been warned by the Bears to quit it, it should be shocking. actually he got in trouble because some guys who barely graduated hs in texas decided to try to bully a rich black man Oh, poor Benson getting picked on by the big meanies. He should be able to drink and drive as much as he wants. He's entitled to that right since he's a pro football player. [end sarcasm]
  2. My satellite claims it will be replayed at 01:30 CT. Thanks. I'm going to set this up when I get home.
  3. At least for me, bar hopping after a weeknight game is a bad thing to do. When I was younger I used to always spend an hour or two hanging out after weeknight games: now I can't do that anymore and be functional at work the next day. I've even left a few games early the last season or two.
  4. I also highly recommend it. The lines can get a little long and the bus packed, but easily the best option. I always laugh at the people who pay the $20, $25 or $30 to park right by the park then have to go through all the hassles. I especially love watching the people who park in the lots where you get blocked in and then have to wait for the other people to leave. It's usually some suburban schmuck in a Lexus or BMW gets worked into a lather.
  5. Feels dirty, huh? So bad I need a Silkwood shower.
  6. he didn't last very long there. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8122046/Padres-to-release-veteran-OF-Edmonds
  7. I thought green text was the new [sarcasm] text [/sarcasm]?
  8. Had a good time down in St. Louis this weekend. Avoided the drama of previous trips where Cards AND Cubs fans had to act stupid. Everyone was pretty mellow this weekend and we had a good time. The Good: -weather on Sunday -Missouri Botanical Garden is top notch -Cubs and Cards fans having a good time -pizza at a place called Farraros -the improvements in the city of St. Louis as downtown and other areas get better -knowing I coming back to Chicago and how much better our sity is than others -having a place to crash for free The Bad -gas prices -the empty hole next to Busch Stadium -gas prices -the dumpy parts of St. Louis -gas prices -"The Best Fans in Baseball" -gas prices -loosing two out of three
  9. I've never tried that. Have you had any success doing it? Done it a few times. Works good because you usually end up sitting in the visiting team's comp tickets they give back. Mostly sections 155 and 156 but way towards the back. Not the greatest seats: but for $11 a pair they kick ass. What time would you need to be down there to get a shot at a couple of seats? Cubs/Cards weekend day game? I would guess 8am but don't hold me to that. Weekday games not against the Cubs I've rolled up at 8:55am and gotten the ticket vouchers. Just remember: it's only two seats. The person getting the voucher must be the main person entering the park. At gametime you line up by the left field bleechers gate. As you enter show your ID and the voucher with your guest right behind you. After you go through the turnstiles they'll hand you a sealed envelope. Open the envelope and see where you are sitting. I'm about to leave for St. Louis. Go Cubs!

  11. Driving down this afternoon. Going to Saturday and Sunday's games. I worked down in St. Louis for a while: if you have any questions I can help.
  12. I thought the taxpayers of St. Louis got off pretty easy with the new Busch. I was working down there when the new place opened a few years ago and it was my understanding most of the ballpark was paid for by the Cardinals. If I remember correctly "only" about $35 million of the money came from the city and county of St. Louis. And most of that was for taking down the old stadium, land clearance, moving some highway on/off ramps etc. Most cost of the actual ballpark construction came from the Cards owners and that's why the place is not very good. I think the new Busch cost like $265 million while the new stadiums in places like Washington DC and Minnesota cost around $500 million. Or the New York stadiums will be close to $1 billion. Don't you live in St. Louis? No I don't. I worked down there for a while and have a number of friends who I still keep in contact with. One guy forwards me all the hot Cardinals news: 98% of which I usually don't read.
  13. Looks like St. Louis screwed up once again. The company that was supposed to build an office tower in the Ballpark Village has backed out, further delaying development. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/business/stories.nsf/story/E6E473C7DCEDC85F862574180051FE62?OpenDocument I'm going to laugh when St. Louis hosts the All Star Game in 2009 and there's a big empty lot next to the stadium that been sitting empty for a number of years.
  14. Since they have similar numbers, I'd take Glaus because his issues are foot and ankle related. Rolen's issues are with the shoulder and that would scare me.
  15. Illinois and Hawaii should not have been in BCS bowls. Teams ranked in the teens don't deserve a top tier bowl. Who would have taken over them? Mizzou? And who else? Yes, Mizzou. Why should a team ranked #6 not go to a BCS game? They got screwed and we got lucky. The Illini should have gone to a bowl game where they wouldn't have embarrassed themselves on national TV.

  17. I'm glad I didn't spend the money to go to So Cal to watch my Illini get their ass kicked. My friends who went said it was not an enjoyable experience. I'm also not looking forward to the Mizzou/Illinois football game in St. Louis this coming September. After the MO/IL basketball game there a few weeks ago we'll be eating a large helping of crow. The chanting of "BCS, BCS" and wearing roses behind the ears will be remembered.
  18. Yes, gay jokes are sooooooo funny.
  19. Sorry. Admin, please delete my initial post.
  20. Buddy in St. Louis texted me. Jim Edmonds has been traded to San Diego from the Cardinals in a salary dump move. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/cardinals/story/303D90EDCC9E7C01862573B20015B897?OpenDocument http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3155811 Looks like they're rebuilding down there: should be good for the Cubs.
  21. Two words: Touchdown Jesus
  22. Notre Dame will ALWAYS get an at-large BCS bid when the qualify. ALWAYS I never understood the whole Notre Dame thing. Years ago I dated a gal who went to Notre Dame, all her brother and sisters did, both her parents, most of her cousins, aunts, uncles etc also attended and graduated. Her parents had a nice house and over the fireplace (with three spotlights on it) was not a family potrait and nice painting: it was a giant photograph of her dad shaking hands with Lou Holtz at some booster club dinner. I think she dated me just to tick her parents off: I was a heathen Illini student.
  23. Not like this is new news. How much extra has Notre Dame gotten over the years because their fans "travel well"?
  24. Rumor: Kansas bought their way into the Orange Bowl. http://www.sportsline.com/columns/weblogs/entry/10507458
