  1. The loud booing and subsequent banishment of Patterson is what led to the high price paid to acquire Pierre. I don't want management making decisions based on fan/player interaction, or else you might see them going out and signing the Augie Ojedas of the world. Hence the need to educate the fans. If fans boo the bad players, spineless management gets rid of the bad players. Of course, you do point out the weakness of said approach: the fans don't have any control over who replaces the bad players. If we got a good GM and a manager who could teach fundamentals and stay out of the way, we'd be set. But if we had a good GM and manager, we wouldn't have to educate them by booing.
  2. I don't really see it as cheating or stupidity, depending on the league type. Murton and Pierre could combine for enough hits, RBI, and SBs to equal Manny's production. Like I said, depending on the league type. Otherwise, it's insanity.
  3. 296/358/676/1034 He looked downright overmatched at AAA when I got to see him last year. I don't think he's ready to provide offense, and I think that should be priority #1. Well, he's leading the Southern League (a pitchers league) in home runs, slugging percentage, total bases, and OPS. He didn't do that his first time aroud at Double A. Maybe he's learned something new... He didn't struggle at AA either last time. .306/.347/.497/.844. I looks to me like he's riding a hot streak from that spell of home runs. He's also 26 now as well. I don't think there's any big change, I think he's just having a good month. Agreed. It's nice to see him having success, but I am extremely apprehensive to think that it could potentially carry that over if he were called up based on what I saw of him at Iowa last season.
  4. We should throw batteries at him. Isn't that what all classy fans do?
  5. Why would the Marlins want Z back? He'll be making the money that Willis will. So they would not necessarily be gaining salary wise. I wouldn't want to trade Z. He's on track to be a future HOFer. I'm not saying they would. I'm merely pointing out that's a deal I would do. Short of that, I wouldn't send him anywhere.
  6. Stat geek response = 0.99 is all The Crew will get! Only if Maddux goes 9. They'll get roughly 0.11 per inning.
  7. Sean's my new favorite thing in Daytona. Then again, having been to Daytona, it didn't take much to secure that top spot.
  8. Why not get him to replace Lee and eventually Jones? Unless he still has some lingering health issues, he'd be a great addition for this season.
  9. Edmonds has 8 gold gloves. That's where he gets an edge over who you listed (except Walker).
  10. I'm picking up what you're throwing down, but I think Z would be the most ideal trading chip. He doesn't make the dollars that Wood does, and is more proven than the Marshalls and Guzmans. If a small package including Z could net us Willis and Cabrera, I might be inclined to pull the trigger so long as that package is not deep in pitching. If Z is ever dealt, I would prefer to see him end up in the AL.
  11. I have the same feelings whenever Angel Hernandez is anywhere on the field: especially behind the plate. Steve McMichael might wanna have speaks about that. fixed ??? I'm confused... ??? So is Mongo.
  12. 2 IP, 9 H, 8 ER, 2 BB, 1 K Cubs lose 14-5 (Each time I've predicted big things this season, I've been sadly disappointed. Time to break out the reverse mojo. Hopefully this time I will not be right.)
  13. 296/358/676/1034 He looked downright overmatched at AAA when I got to see him last year. I don't think he's ready to provide offense, and I think that should be priority #1.
  14. No, he's due $15M in 2007 and 2008 is a club option at $16M ($2M buyout)
  15. Think Donnie can kick Paul Wilson's ass too?
  16. Um, you started the rumor. Of course you heard it.
  17. Toss a coin. CB just plain sucks. I think Froemming knows what he's doing in that he tries to be an ass. Pick your poison.
  18. well first, I don't think Sammy's actions were in the same class as Pujols', and I've never been the biggest Sammy Sosa fan. and second, Sandberg would take a look at the ball, then flick his bat away in a very cocky manner when he knew he got one. I haven't seen the development of this thread, but these are things in the class of Pujol's walk 1/3 of the way down the first base line and pointing to the sky after crossing the plate, as opposed to showing up Perez. I agree. Sammy's over-the-top antics were much worse than anything Pujols has done. I don't recall Ryno ever flipping his bat, showing up another player, showing off, having any altercations with his teammates or having a reputation as anything other than the consumate team player. Can you supply a link to dispute this or back up the "cocky" claim? That's because he didn't.
  19. Agree with the thread title change, but I disagree that Williams for Hinske would be a good deal. I would think that with his age, we could get more than just Hinske for Jerome. Williamson would probably only net a guy like Hinske until he can show some consistency.
  20. Little known fact: Bruce Froemming is Latin for "fat guy who sucks"
