He wasn't good defensively either. I assume you're being sarcastic, since Mazeroski is perhaps the best defensive second baseman of all time. That's all well and good, but a career OBP under .300 is what it is - terrible. And if you're going to let Maz in the HOF because of his defensive prowess, what about Santo's five Gold Gloves at third base? He wasn't exactly a butcher either. For fear of hijacking the thread, I don't think he belongs because in addition to being inadequat offensively, I do not think Maz was good defensively. He may have a nice number of Gold Glove awards, but I think that probably speaks more to the overall lack of talent at that position during his era. I think he had 23 errors one year that he won. Edit: After further review, he won the GG twice with 23 errors.
