What do you have against Gathright? He's fast as lightning, but has no patience and no power. His OBP in the minors ranges from 360 - 419 (360 was his first season). I don't see that as a lack of patience. And who cares about the power? We've had enough of that the past few years and it has gotten us nowhere.
Tell Len to get his head out of his... oh, never mind. :D I really don't think it was that big of a deal. That info very well could have been dead-on until the Dodgers decided to have a huge meth party and call Furcal's agent.
Griffey and Ichiro. Patterson, Walker, Mitre, Williams, Hill, and Pie all gone. Ichiro will have a sub-Ichiro season, Griff will play in 98 games, batting .221 while we take on all of his non-deferred salary. Not saying I want it, just saying that's what'll probably happen.
There is no reason in the world for Wood to not be ready by opening day. I had surgery to repair a TORN labrum (Kerry's was only frayed) by one of the finest orthopaedic surgeons in the midwest and was told that it would be 6 months at the longest to a full recovery. I specifically asked him about Wood's injury at the time since my Dr was also a big Cubs fan. He told me that from what he knew of the injury, he saw no reason why he would not be completely ready by the beginning of February at the latest. I have not participated in rehab as aggressively as prescribed, and I am an entire month ahead of schedule. Wood had his surgery at the end of August if memory serves. Even if his recovery takes a full 6 months, that puts him at March 1. How in the world can he not be ready for opening day?
As would his average, SB %, defense, etc. That's all a given. The more I look at Gathright, the more I like him. Look at his OBP in his minor league stints (360, 406, 419, 399, 384, 388). Not too shabby, plus he's only 23...
I consider Welly's 6.19 ERA and 1.72 WHIP to be a flop. Some might consider Novoa's 4.80 and 1.57 to be a flop. How about Wuertz? He's only marginally better than Novoa. Stuff means nothing when the results aren't there.
*** WARNING: What you are about to read is an extremely bad joke, but one I just had to make. *** I left my heart in San Fransisco... Sorry, I had to do it!
To me, he showed much more potential than Welly or Novoa or Wuertz. I guess maybe the BoSox saw what I did. I hope that PTBNL is a very good one. Yes, first time I've been in since yesterday afternoon. Craziness, I tell ya. I broke down and checked the ESPN boards. Man, I feel dirty.
Not that this is indicative of how each future season would be, but Michael Young's splits last year are eerily similar. Home (332 AB) .331/.386/.527/.913 Away (336 AB) .330/.384/.500/.884
