  1. Bingo! I think this is the real point. Barrett removed the idea that he was available at all which potentially changes how the Brewers will use their bullpen late in the game. This could be a valid argument, for one AB. However the first time Barrett DOESN'T come on to pinch hit in a likely situation the cover's blown anyway. I wouldn't think 1 "phantom" AB would make that much of a difference in the greater scheme of things, though strenger things have happened. I disagree. Teams decoy all the time with hitters they really don't intend to bat. I remember last year, Kenny Williams was upset with Frank Thomas because he didn't conceal his foot injury during the Cubs series. He wanted Thomas to stand on deck and help alter the manger's decision. Anyway, the Cubs have a short bench to start with so if teams know that Barrett is unavailable it will affect more than just one AB. Having the threat of power off the bench is big. Apparently, the Cubs aren't the only team in MLB to have this policy... Can we say, "mountain out of a molehill" with this thread? Teams do this all the time. Yost, like Baker and other managers, wants it kept in-house because he knows other teams will capitalize if they know one of his players is unavailable.
  2. I guess this debunks the Dusty had to have Rusch in the rotation theory. Rusch was a horrible signing that lies soley on the shoulders of Hendry who vastly overpaid for him. How so? I think the only thing that quote shows is that Baker is less willing to stick with crap this year. That's a good thing. The Rusch experiment has failed mightily this year so it's time to move on and hide him in the bullpen. The Cubs have other options at starting pitcher. I have no idea what Hill will provide in the MLs but I would like to give him the opportunity to start until Wood returns to the rotation.
  3. There's something to be said for guys losing focus when they get blown out, are in a tight scoring game and their pitcher all of a sudden falls apart, or when they find themselves playing catchup early in the game. I don't think Glendon inspires the confidence of his teammates; In Rusch's losses, he has allowed the opposition to take the lead first or could not maintain the momentum when his team gave him a lead.
  4. I listened to part of Dusty's postgame comments and he said he will speak with Jim (Hendry) and Larry about what they plan to do. In other words, he's certainly willing to consider moving Rusch out of the rotation but ultimately, it's Hendry's decision to recall Hill or anyone else. Good news
  5. That's a new record for futility. I remember a Cubs-White Sox game in the summer of 2003 I believe where Shawn Estes threw 50ish pitches in the first inning and gave up 6 runs. But Novoa's 56 were definately more than that. Fred corrected it. Novoa's 56 pitches were over two innings.
  6. Or Rusch and Aardsma suck and Ohman can't be good when he gets 1 appearance in the last 9 days. Ohman's ERA was 27.00 before he had 1.5 innings (4/11). He was given the opportunity to lower it on 4/13, 4/16, and 4/18 but he averaged a run an outing. On 4/21 he lowered his ERA but he gave up 3 ER today in 2 innings. He has to pitch better consistently if he wants the manager to have the confidence to bring him into close games. The reason I said he was lucky last year, is because he was the beneficiary of good pitching by his teammates; who often left his runners on base when he exited.

  8. I was away so, I want to make sure I add that Rusch and Aardsma suck and Oh-Man was lucky last year. YUCK
  9. At least Neifi is a good defensive player. The other two just suck.
  10. MOre good news from Aardsma. He's going to be sent down. No question.
  11. That's Hendry's decision not Dusty's. Baker can't make roster moves. I'm sure they were willing to give Rusch the benefit of the doubt considering he's under contract.
  12. I wouldn't be surprised if he walked in a run! This guy is terrible.
  13. Rusch owns 3 of the 8 losses and he's bucking for a fourth. Oh yeah, Aardsma has been unimpressive!
  14. Without JP's catch this could easily be 6-0. He's gone!
  15. Actually, we might have to sacrifice this game for our 'pen. It's too early and with no off days on the horizon, he can't come out yet.
  16. Get this bum out of the game! The Cubs have to seriously consider bringing up Hill for Rusch's next start.
  17. Yeah but the Reds are in first with the best record in Baseball. It's just a matter of time before the Reds fall. I would rather have the Astros get as many losses as they can, especially as long as Clemens is "retired". We'll see. They aren't doing it with their pitching, considering a team ERA over 5.00, so someone has to stop those bats.
  18. Yeah but the Reds are in first with the best record in Baseball.
  19. :D Me likes. I like Pettitte taking his lumps but after the Reds won yesterday I was hoping that the Astros (and Cubs) would win today. The Reds are much too confident right now for my comfort.
