  1. Pettitte being knocked around. It's 6-2 Cincy in the bottom of the 5th.
  2. or, "that wouldn't be a home run in a phone booth."
  3. Ok, I'm in favor of Hill taking Rusch's spot. This is ridiculous.
  4. Phil Jackson has been giving books to his players for years. I don't see anything wrong with Dusty showing Barrett some books to make his point. I think many of you are missing the importance of this. You have a 25 man roster. If one player is unavailable it absolutely impacts that game. For the sake of argument, Barrett unavailable impacts the following: Mabry is now your backup catcher and unavailable early in the game Aramis up in a critical situation in the middle innings vs. a tiring pitcher now becomes Aramis vs. the opponent's ace reliever (since there's no RH pop on the bench hence nothing to save him for) Your pitchers have to bat because of a short bench, allowing the opposition to pitch around the eigth place hitter You may not agree but I think these are huge advantages for the opposition and will affect the game. Kirk Gibson wasn't available for the rest of the World Series after his HR off Eckersley - do you think LaRussa would have liked to know that? This is not a big deal, but everybody knew Barrett wasn't going to play and was unavailable to play. All one had to do was read any one of a number of local newspapers before Barrett said anything. They were all reporting he would be down for a couple of days. IMO, it is pretty stupid of Dusty to be upset about it, if he is upset. I think the media might be making too much out of this. Not being in the starting lineup and being completely unavailable are two different things. I disagree that everyone knew he was unavailable. The initial reports were that he would probably play on Friday and at the very least, was day to day.
  5. Bingo! I think this is the real point. Barrett removed the idea that he was available at all which potentially changes how the Brewers will use their bullpen late in the game.
  6. Good eye, he did change his delivery. I found this in today's Suntimes
  7. Then, we should get rid of the emoticons immediately. How do they dictate anything?
  8. I don't know. Don't kill me but, when I saw JoBo (surprisingly non sweaty and thin) I immediately thought " he's off the juice." Well, that's because the seed of doubt was planted by B&B that maybe he was using a few years ago. He never broke a sweat and wasn't all wild-eyed like he used to be. I think it's a combo of losing weight and getting off the greenies. I'm still not convinced. I want to know what happened to his velocity; he's suppose to be completely healthy now so why isn't he pitching in the 90's? It is very common not to get the same velocity after having a shoulder injury like his. Matt Morris is a perfecr example, and IMO we will probably see the same thing with Wade Miller. Good thing Guzman came back just fine from his labrum tear. Yes but, outside of a good year and a half, he has always worked in the 80s. I think he has now returned to normal but he was possibily using an enhancement in the past.
  9. Yep, if you're trying to predict the rest of the season. But no matter how small the sample size, it doesn't change the fact that he's sucked this year. Last season combined with the first 20 games does, however, provide a pretty significant sample size. Shouldn't you worry more about the White Sox? I don't think the Cubs face the White Sox for a couple months, right? May 19th (my B-Day) is the first series at the Cell. Wow, that soon. I guess I should start to worry in the next couple weeks. Thanks for the heads up blueheart. Fixed

  11. It's a good sign because it shows that they can win with minimal hits. Most days, their bullpen will be strong enough to hold off the opposition.

There were some people here that speculated that he was using when his velocity went up in 2003.

  15. Dusty played a part, but the bullpen simply didn't hold up today. Especially Williamson. The Marlins took advantage of the walks we gave them, and we didn't take advantage of ours (enough). Dusty made some bad decisions, but he was not the person that lost today's game. There's no doubt that this loss falls on Williamson.
  16. I'm mad a Williamson for precipitating a need for Dusty to make a move! His failures today were the most glaring.
