  1. you just personally attacked like 5 people with one post. Impressive. More like 5555 people. I was being conservative, and only referencing the people that had specifically indicated that Figgins isn't worth the cost in players given up if Lofton can be simply signed as a FA. But your estimate is likely closer to reality.
  2. Not that we'd do 6 trades in the next couple months anyway, but do the Twins & Dodgers really take those packages?

  4. Don't trade off our assets for Figgins to play in CF. Just sign Lofton. Murton isnt much of an asset!!! Lofton does not compare to Figgins. Figgins is a stud, Lofton is a good cheap CF, but dont compare him to Figgins. Trading Murton and other stuff from the Cubs (Cedeno, dempster, marquis, veal, patterson) is worth getting Figgins over Lofton! Lofton is old, he will decline soon. Figgins will be good for years. You're not giving up assets for Figgins. But i dont think the Angels will trade Figgins without getting studs from us. Since everyone else took the Figgins/Lofton angle, I'll take this one. Murton is an asset. He's young, cheap, and solid. Look at his numbers again. Pay special attention to the post-ASG numbers each of the last 2 years (.900+ OPS). He's not Babe Ruth, but he ain't Neifi Perez either.
  5. You're right: http://www.aolcdn.com/aolr/david-eckstein-mvp-trophy-400a-103006.jpg Yeah, I forgot he won that World Series single-handedly. Not that Eckstein was bad in that series, but Molina and Rolen had a better series than he did. If only there were readily available pictures of every scrappy guy that didn't amazingly win an award he didn't deserve...
  6. Don't trade off our assets for Figgins to play in CF. Just sign Lofton. Yeah - if we're trading Pie, I'd rather sign Lofton and trade Murton & something for Greene. Roberts Fukudome Lee ARam Soriano Greene Lofton Soto Having Murton waste another of his prime years on our bench rather than using him or trading him (for something of value to us) is stupid, if you ask me.
  7. Who was it that led the league in mental RBIs last year? In my mind, I drove in 192. Take that, Hack Wilson. Since RBIs have been pretty much refuted as the measure of a good hitter, I suppose your mark was achieved largely due to the mental capacity of those around you. All my friends have high mental OBPs. Seriously though, I do agree that RBI and runs are poor measures of how good a hitter is. I thought that runs would still be a good indicator of a hitters talent, being as he has to get on base quite a bit to score a ton of runs. I understand that it is still a team dependant stat, but thought it still to be a better indicator of value to the team than an RBI. But if runs is a good measure of a hitter's talent b/c it means he had to be on base frequently, can't we just cut out the middle man and use OBP? Yeah I get that. I ust guess I always still valued runs more than RBIs. Probably foolish of me. Might be more valuable than RBI. I guess I largely ignore both for evaluation purposes, so I don't much care which is better.
  8. I remember a week or so ago he said he was dealing with family things. yeah i remember that too, i guess i was just hopein Or maybe he just doesn't respond to every single request for his presence here. But we activated the Bruce signal and everything... inappropriate use of the signal, imo.

  10. If we give them Murton, I hope it's part of a bigger deal that nets us Greene.
  11. Perhaps not making the 2003 would have been the best thing for the Cubs, in retrospect. Exactly. I know this wasn't your point, but selfishly, I (and all the other fans) wouldn't have had to suffer through the tragedy of that playoff series.
  12. I can still play some CF. Let me see if I can find my glove...
  13. Well Hello! I haven't seen one of you outside of Des Moines in over 30 years! Seriously though if you are a longtime Drake fan, congrats and keep it rolling. I have nothing against Drake at all. Just the hundreds of people who are suddenly Drake fans who couldn't name more than two guys on their roster a few years ago. I'm an alum, not really a long time fan. Since I graduated, I've always checked their scores online for football and hoops, but they're usually ok/terrible. I couldn't name 2 guys on their roster 2 years ago and I could probably only name 2 guys on their current roster. But I'm still enjoying their success. And where I'm at, there aren't hundreds of fans coming out of the woodwork. There's just me and one other alum I know in the area. It's probably different back in Iowa, where they're actually getting some press.
  14. I just dropped in to say GO BULLDOGS!
  15. Even though I loved Sosa, one of my favorite Pedro memories was watching him absolutely toy with Big Mac and Sosa back-to-back in the ASG.
  16. I highly doubt it. Roberts would have been traded yesterday then. I don't think we get Roberts. I think this was sarcasm, playing off the speculation that the trade was delayed so as not to steal Goose's thunder last week. And if so - well played, UMFan.
  17. The baseball player can't play CF, can he? Do we need another corner OF when we already have a cheap, above average guy that just hit his prime that can't get into the lineup? Oh, and do not do a GIS for Shannon Stewart at work. Unless you don't like your job and were going to quit today anyway. Yikes.
  18. Cedeno's been to the majors more than once, and has been less than impressive each time. I'm not so concerned with giving him up. 2005 Ronny Cedeno says hello. I wouldn't have too much of a problem with him being included in this trade if the Cubs weren't also dealing away one solid starting pitcher and a pitching prospect who could have possibly been better than Marquis and Dempster this season. But theyre not, this board needs to realize this. Marshall and Gallagher in the rotation together at the same time, is in fact worse than Dempster and Marquis. Good lord at some of you people. What does that even mean?
  19. What's wrong with quoting rumors from that site? The rumor quoted clearly states that the Orioles Hangout is reporting its done. The poster didn't say it was done and just put "link" so you'd have to click it to know it was from that site. I, for one, like having updates from that site posted. Even if the information isn't 100% accurate (though it has been in the past, at times), I like seeing rumors that have at least a shred of credibility (which these do, imo).
  20. I'd almost rather it be locked for this reason. Even if something comes up, it would make more sense to have a new thread about it. no way jose. new threads are against company policy and confuse the bejesus out of people. It would really be confusing to lock this thread so that if/when a trade actually happens, a new thread that says "Cubs wildly overpay to acquire Roberts" in the title can be started? It's been weeks since the last change in the title and, as someone else pointed out, many posts in this thread have nothing to be with Roberts. Heck, many don't even discuss the Orioles, insiders, or legs.
