  1. Wow! So now Carl Crawford is Juan Pierre? This is absurd. I'm honestly baffled at the response on this message board to the Cubs interest in Crawford. The kid is a stud in the making, is only 26, and under contract for several years at below market value. You're talking about a guy who, coming into his 27/28 prime years looks to put up an .850 OPS, 60+ xbh, and 50 SB. Your looking at acquiring a guy for what will likely be his 2 best seasons as a pro. Juan Pierre part II? Did you just forget your smiley or something? Did the point really fly that far over your head? Crawford isn't JP, but Hill, Marmol, & Cedeno aren't Pinto, Nolasco and Mitre either. The comparison is wildly overpaying for a marginal improvement in our team (though you could easily argue that JP wasn't an improvement at all). At least that's how I took it. And I think when you look at JP and what we gave up to get him v. Crawford and what we're rumored to be giving up to get him (at least if it's really Hill, Marmol, Cedeno), I think it's a fair comparison.
  2. Basically what I'm seeing too. Better defensively. Certainly much more expensive. I really don't get it. I just hope Murton's traded to some team I like b/c if he's traded to St Louis or NYY, I'm going to hate JH even more.
  3. If this ends up being the deal, I'm driving my car to Chicago and kicking someone's ass. /Roast locks dorm room door
  4. I agree with you. But I'm interested in your opinion on ARod at $30m v. Manny at $20m (or whatever he's pulling in). Assuming (a) ARod at 3B, and (b) ARod could be an adequate SS.
  5. OK, maybe not to start the season...but unless Prior is resigned and he's back to form, that's a down right awful playoff rotation if we were ever to make it that far. Not a real good regular season rotation either...or at least not a good bet to be a very good one.
  6. See calcs that CCP and I did above... It's kind of hard to figure out which are the right numbers, but it looks like the translation estimates an .831 OPS at age 30. Murton's 26 and has an .810 last year. And he's been much better than that in the 2nd half of each of the last 2 seasons. I guess I'm far from convinced that Kosuke is $9-10m better than Murton (if he's in RF; if he'd be the CF, that's a different issue).
  7. More like that Murton in RF is not currently a possibility so people are discussing which of the more realistic possibilities are the best options. So basically, "So JH's convinced that the difference in production from Kosuke in RF and Murton in RF is going to be enough to justify the great difference in their contracts? Or, at least, he's willing to take that $10m risk?" I love this team.
  8. So we're convinced that the difference in production from Kosuke in RF and Murton in RF is going to be enough to justify the great difference in their contracts? Or, at least, we're willing to take that $10m risk?
  9. Hate to rain on your parade, but if we trade Monroe for Punto, they can't both be in our lineup.
  10. I might have to convert to a full-blown Tigers fan if this happens. It's the only Michigan team I can stand and at least they have a good GM.
  11. Abso-stinkin-lutely. I'd welcome 4-3 back with open arms. I agree, with 1 caveat. Someone has to stand next to Lou with a gun to his head. If he ever makes JP the starter and leadoff or #2 hitter, you pull the trigger, no questions asked.
  12. There were 3 trades pending this morning and I've allowed them all (so they should be reflected in your team page tomorrow). So does that clear everything up?
  13. It's not that easy. cheapseats (DC's Wife) picked Carter in R4, when all keepers were supposed to have been picked and the remaining players were fair game. He has all his keepers, so if you took VC from him, he'd be foregoing his 4th round pick, which isn't really fair, especially since the reason you didn't draft VC is you drafted Dirk, who wasn't your keeper, in R2. If someone gets the short end of the stick to some degree on these trades, it should be you and Andy, not Mark, dobson, or cheapseats.
  14. Ok - sorry for 3 posts, but I figured it out. Andy must not have preranked. You have to give Kobe to Dobson and Marion back to Mark. We'll figure out what you will get back. I don't think we can penalize Flames for taking DHow, since it was in the 4th, but we'll figure that out. PlayPie - you have to give Dirk back to Mark. Again, I'm not sure what you'll get back, but we'll figure it out. So we only have 3 deals to be made. Andy gives Kobe to Dobson Andy gives Marion to Mark PlayPie gives Dirk to Mark Since Andy & PlayPie were in the wrong, I vote that we don't penalize the guys that ended up with their keepers. But we should make the trades above fair if possible.
  15. I apologize, Mark, it wasn't you at all. Andy and someone else drafted your keepers right ahead of you in the 2nd, so Y! automatically defaulted to your 4th pick (Lewis, apparently). So you were in the right, but those guys screwed up. Anyone who didn't get their own keepers, feel free to let me know and we'll see if we can't fix it (Andy - you shouldn't get to keep Marion, especially since it looks like you got 4 keepers total - there are a few other guys with the same issue). Still, we're not drafting a 4th time, so let's work this out and go with it.
  16. Had a few minor issues apparently since Mark took Rashard in the 2nd and G Wallace in the 3rd (and might have taken someone else's keeper in the 1st). Dobson also took Bosh rather than his keeper in the 3rd, so a few guys got a windfall in the 4th as Pierce, VC, and DHow all got taken after the keeper rounds. If you guys want to work out trades to get back your keepers, fine, but I say we keep these results and just move on. Good luck.
  17. What if you could use the extra 12 million to get Fukodome/JD Drew (just an example). So you would have Soriano and Fukodome/Drew for 30 million compared to A-rod for 30 million. ARod and Murton for 30.5 million. Agreed. But it's really ARod, Murton & X (in whatever corner Murton's not playing) v. Theriot, Soriano, and Drew, b/c if you take away Soriano, Murton goes back to LF and you need a RF (probably Jones). But as I just said, the ARod side is still much better.
  18. What if you could use the extra 12 million to get Fukodome/JD Drew (just an example). So you would have Soriano and Fukodome/Drew for 30 million compared to A-rod for 30 million. Are we talking in a vacuum or w/ the Cubs current roster? b/c ARod (SS), Murton (LF) and Jones (RF) >>>>> Theriot (SS), Soriano (LF), and Drew (RF) [with Jones on the bench].
  19. Dempster's one good year as a starter was back in 2000. If we're using Hendry's logic then we better sign Darin Erstad since he was also good in 2000. If JH signs Erstad, you should be banned.
  20. 'Twould be true. I talked to both Hendry and Dempster about it. Ryan is excited about the resurgent Blackhawks, I might add. So he's going to be in the 'Hawks frontline rotation?
  21. I'm ok with a redraft, but people either need to attend or prerank correctly (make your 3 keepers your top 3 picks and exclude everyone else's keepers). I'll have to set up a new league. I'll pm the new ID & password to everyone. I'll set the draft for Thursday 6:00 pm Eastern/5:00 pm Central - is that late enough? I can't really go any later than that. Doesn't look like we can delete the current league since the draft has already taken place, so if anyone is interested in playing that league out for the hell of it, fine by me.
  22. Exactly. Sure, I would prefer a guy like Drew (if $ were equal), who has the .380 OBP and potential to hit for power, but if he doesn't get his power back and Baldelli never develops more than a below average batting eye, I think Baldelli will be the better player. So you're saying (assuming $ equal, which it isn't) Drew with a .380/.420/.800 OPS would be worse than Baldelli with a .330/.470/.800? Or are you saying Baldelli, even with a below average OBP (in the .320-.330 range) will have enough power that it will outweigh the 50-60 point advantage in OBP? If the former, I respectfully disagree.
  23. Are there trends or other stats that indicate Dempster's better than Marquis as a starter? If not, these look pretty bad for Demps.
  24. This is a mess, but here's where we stand... Flames needs to trade: 1. Kobe to Dobson 2. KG, VC, and Yao to PlayPie 3. Marion and Nash to Mark IMB needs to trade Dirk to Mark I need to trade Paul & TD to Flames Dobson needs to trade Deng to Flames Now, that can all be worked out, but Mark, PlayPie and Dobson need to trade some of their top picks in order to balance this out. In essence, IMB and I drafted our 3 keepers each, but once the 4th round hit and several keepers had been drafted by the wrong teams and Mark, Dobson & PlayPie had drafted the top "free" players, we decided it was a free for all. So it would be unfair to allow guys to keep other team's keepers, but it would also be unfair to allow Mark, PlayPie and Dobson to get not only their 3 keepers, but also the 3 guys they got in the first 3 rounds (top "free" players). So I suggest we either set up a new draft time after everyone's fixed their pre-ranking issues or we try to fix this with trades. I'm ok with either one, but we need to decide ASAP b/c if we're going to start over, we have to shut down this league and create a new one and if we're going to trade, they need to be done like now.
