  1. you're going to make some lucky girl very happy someday.
  2. Criticize Lou all you want, but this wouldn't be happening under Dusty Baker. Being better at Dusty in teaching patience at the plate isn't all that impressive. Oh, and I credit Perry more than Lou for this particular change.
  3. Does Soto call the pitches? Whomever called that first pitch fastball to Young is an idiot.
  4. I'm pretty sure Andy was being sarcastic. Just to be safe, I'm changing my vote.
  5. You apparently share a birthday with my wife. Having your wife's birthday land of Father's Day is a nice little kick in the groin.
  6. Did you really slap a copyright notice on that post?
  7. And I'd have fallen for it too. Right before I banned you. worth it
  8. Wow. Just wow. Other than the throws themselves, my favorite part of the first throw is the look back by the runner after he gets tagged out - complete disbelief. Oh, and I hated Rick Ankiel the pitcher but that was only due to the insufferable Cardinal fans I was around at the time. He was completely humiliated in one of the biggest spots ever and fought back to the majors. Good for him.
  9. We should get Dunn if for no other reason than he could no longer crush our starting pitchers.
  10. This is the obvious choice. Andy nailed it with the first post. Close the poll.
  11. That's pretty poor reasoning. really? why? they've lost every tinkered-with game. if i remember correctly, they shuffled the rotation to allow marquis (and not hill) to start against the brewers. they lost. hill was then nine days removed from his last start when he threw against the cardinals. they lost that game. and lieber, who took hill's spot in the rotation, got battered today. they lost. you really don't see how this rotation shuffle hurt the cubs? I don't think it's the reason they're 3-6. and i didn't say it was the reason. But your argument certainly implied it. It implied that one of the reasons for the downturn was screwing with the rotation. To get that the shuffling was the only reason, you'd have to make quite a leap.
  12. I thought this was going to be a "check out this stupid trade offer" thread. Yes. Take that deal.
  13. No defense in walks. Missals ain't good either but if you can't even throw a strike, you have problems. We're not really arguing whether giving up a HR is worse than walking someone, are we?
  14. Lou realizes that double switches aren't mandatory, right?
  15. Agreed. Which is why, going back to the original point, I don't particularly believe him when he talks about needing Hill. Yeah, I agree with you. I have 0 confidence in what Lou says. I'm still waiting for our "everyday CF" to start more than once every 10 games or so. He's having a real tough time finding ABs for a guy he said he needed to (Cedeno) even though another IF went down. Lou has Cedeno is behind Theriot, Fontenot and DeRosa on the depth chart. If that's the case, why would he say he's got to get Cedeno into the lineup?
  16. I wouldn't be so sure. What did the Cubs get for Jones that the Tigers would regret not having? If the Neifi perez trade didn't sour them on deals with the Cubs then nothing will. The Cubs got rid of the obligation to pay Jones for being not good at baseball. The Tigers probably regret not having the money they have paid Jacque and will continue to pay him.
  17. This isn't particularly close. 1 year and $12m more for a guy that put up a near .900 OPS last season v. a mediocre or worse starting pitcher? In the last year or two, Zito's may look better b/c it's about to expire and Soriano could be really, really bad at 37. But today I can't see why anyone would take Zito in the rotation or the pen over Soriano in LF.
  18. My thread remains intact. That's all that matters. He should have kept mine...may have been a minute later, but at least it had a link. Oh - and OMC started one in the non-Cubs forum. We love us some JJ round here.
  19. I just hope Jim stays away.
  20. Both guys may have finally adapted to MLB pitching and I hope they both continue to grow as hitters. If Theriot can continually force pitchers to pitch and hit line drives and grounders and not the lazy Fly Balls, that would be a very good thing. Me too. It's just hard to trust Cedeno's numbers. He had 25 walks in 741 plate appearances from 2005-2007 (5 of which were IBB, which is 20%). His #p/pa is those plate appearances hovered around 3.52. Now he has 7 walks in 55 plate appearances, with a 4.2 #p/pa. Those are both dramatic changes and honestly unlikely to be sustained. But I have my fingers crossed. He also not being coached by Dusty anymore, which could have a big effect on a young hitter. If you're 23 and in your first year in the majors and been given a starting job, you're probably doing whatever the manager tells you to do, even if it's being overly aggressive. It's been 2 years, maybe he's changed his approach with some good coaching. Either way, he's entering or in his prime. The time to "work him into" the starting role is now.
  21. It lasted about 15 ABs. After 4 games, it was clear that Lou wasn't sticking with Pie. He may have said he really wants the kid to succeed and he's working with him and all that junk, but he hasn't had consistent ABs since that first week. Even when Lou realized that Reed is struggling, he's not giving Pie ABs. He's converting our best SS into a CF.
