ok, now we're getting somewhere. this is good. the fear is that Piniella is going to make the terrible decision of playing a sub-.650 ops SS everyday when there is another clearly superior option. and that surely would be a terrible decision. but what nobody realizes apparently, is that you're all really early with the criticisms as the kid is at .870 or whatever now and has been an asset for us this season. you're jumping the gun with the bashing, and it's directed at the wrong party. i've been thrilled that both ronny and theriot have been producing, but i realize that puts me in the minority. i guess i'm the twisted type of fan that enjoys it when players are performing well. No, you're the twisted Cubs fan that isn't seeing the glass half empty. In a vacuum, I want all Cubs players to perform well and help the team win. For the start of this season, if the Cubs can win the same number of games whether Theriot does well or hits into a double play in every AB to start the year, I'd take the latter. Why? I don't trust Lou and I think Cedeno gives us the far better chance to win (both now, the rest of this year and the future). So if Theriot sucks from the start, there's a better chance that Lou replaces him with Cedeno. If Theriot plays well, even if Cedeno plays well, Theriot remains the starter (as evidenced by keeping Theriot at SS, even when they're both in the game, which is stupid) and it becomes almost impossible to get him out of the lineup when the inevitable .650 OPS shows up. And yes, last year is pretty good support for this concern.
