  1. Thats not that terrible of a trade offer. Chipper is insanely om fire (reminds you of someone from last year...) but is already hurting this early in the season. Maybe if the third basemen were reversed, but why would I sell high on Chipper only to get another 3B that I'm buying low on? And I add the closer? Anyway, this guy is obsessed with trying to get Sherrill, the current counter proposal after several back and forths is Sherrill for Braun. Cross your fingers. No offense, but that trade proposal belongs in this thread about eighty bagillion times more than the original one you posted. Good luck though! Oh no doubt, I figure it's worth a shot for a guy this focused on getting Sherrill when he already has Pap, Jenks, and Lyon. Doesn't hurt to try! Which kinda should be the mantra of this thread. No kidding. If you (TT) get Braun for Sherrill, everyone else in your league is going to be pissed. Some pissed at you. Some pissed at themselves b/c they didn't take advantage of the other owner before you did.
  2. Yes, but Cedeno is better at 2B than Theriot as well. No it's because Lou isn't going to move his starting Shortstop so Ronny starts the game at 2B. Rest assured he will be right back on the bench when Soriano gets back. But, he will get to sit next to Felix at least. I just find it curious, esp since Cedeno used to be the one replaced late in games.
  3. Yes, but Cedeno is better at 2B than Theriot as well. but given the choice between the better defender at SS or 2B, you have to pick SS, right?
  4. anyone else find it interesting the Theriot would play the whole game at SS with Cedeno at 2B, then, in the 9th, Fontenot would replace Theriot defensively, but move to 2B? That implies that Cedeno is the better SS, right? Am I losing my mind or is this stupid?
  5. NO THERIOT HAS BEEN VERY GOOD SO FAR IF HE STINKS IN THE FUTURE LOU CAN BENCH HIM IF HE DOESNT HE WILL BE THE ONE SCREWING THE TEAM i think i'll have to type in caps when expressing this simple point as plain text just isn't translating somehow. the cast of characters on here has shown all the nuance of a brick wall. now you're just being annoying.
  6. give me a break. i made reference of the notion that a player could have an empty OPS and ARod was the classic example. i was clear with my statements. if you read it and took it as an ARod-Theriot comparison, then you should try improving your reading comprehension. Again, this is a game thread and we're losing to a crappy team. If you don't expect people to take statements like that further than you may have intended, you need to wake up. My reading comprehension is fine, thanks.
  7. ok, now we're getting somewhere. this is good. the fear is that Piniella is going to make the terrible decision of playing a sub-.650 ops SS everyday when there is another clearly superior option. and that surely would be a terrible decision. but what nobody realizes apparently, is that you're all really early with the criticisms as the kid is at .870 or whatever now and has been an asset for us this season. you're jumping the gun with the bashing, and it's directed at the wrong party. i've been thrilled that both ronny and theriot have been producing, but i realize that puts me in the minority. i guess i'm the twisted type of fan that enjoys it when players are performing well. No, you're the twisted Cubs fan that isn't seeing the glass half empty. In a vacuum, I want all Cubs players to perform well and help the team win. For the start of this season, if the Cubs can win the same number of games whether Theriot does well or hits into a double play in every AB to start the year, I'd take the latter. Why? I don't trust Lou and I think Cedeno gives us the far better chance to win (both now, the rest of this year and the future). So if Theriot sucks from the start, there's a better chance that Lou replaces him with Cedeno. If Theriot plays well, even if Cedeno plays well, Theriot remains the starter (as evidenced by keeping Theriot at SS, even when they're both in the game, which is stupid) and it becomes almost impossible to get him out of the lineup when the inevitable .650 OPS shows up. And yes, last year is pretty good support for this concern.
  8. aka - Lou over-managing. Gotta get Wuertz out of there when he's going good.
  9. people are inferring Ryan has been detrimental with his play thus far. it is absolutely analogous. No, it's not. You're going to argue that, with the way this entire offense has been clicking, Theriot's offense has really been a significant positive factor in our record? Seems to me that most of his performance has been icing. And the negative plays, including a crucial error and 6/11 SB, have cost us pretty dearly recently. Those plays are fresh in people's minds. Anyway, comparing Theriot to ARod is just baiting people in a game thread when the Cubs are losing to the Nationals.
  10. Again - more base runners = more LOB. Of course, it also means more runs.
  11. i was really just highlighting the asinine logic (or lack thereof) of all the bashing for any of the team's struggles towards one particular player who has played stellar baseball so far this year. the tunnel vision is strong with a significant faction of the game threaders. "870 OPS? for a SS wow that's pretty goo-...oh **** it, i hate that little guy anyways" That's what I thought. This isn't your first game thread, right? There's going to be a lot of overreaction/hyperbole. Though, to some extent, I agree with some of what's aimed at Theriot. There's no chance he keeps up anywhere near a .900 OPS, and if he's going to get caught stealing almost 50% of the time, he's going to kill us offensively eventually. But it's going to be impossible to get him out of the lineup if he posts good numbers for 6 weeks. So while it's nice to get two great OPS out of the middle infield, we're Cubs fans, so we're waiting for the other shoe to drop. That's more likely to be Theriot's numbers plummeting, but Lou keeping him in the lineup.
  12. Ya think? We'd be on a 9 game winning streak right now if we could hit with RISP No I think we would be on that streak had Theriot not been playing. he has killed us with his glove, lack of hitting, and stealing. Wow your right: Thursday: GIDP with the bases loaded, botches a routine DP ball that results in the go ahead run scoring GIDP? Your are right. Bloops into a double play. Way better. so he's at fault for another guys baserunning wow tough crowd So is it that you really want Theriot to keep starting and hitting 1 or 2, or are you just wanting to argue with folks pissed at a GIDP in a game thread?
  13. Is it just that Gameday sucks, or was the 2nd pitch to Ronny (called strike) in the exact same place as the 1st one (ball)?
  14. It's going to get ugly, thats for sure. Luckily Ronny is trying his best to force Lou's hand. Next weekend I had better see a lineup like this Lou: Soriano Cedeno Lee ARam Fukudome Soto DeResoa Pie i hate it too that his .337/.406/.465 line has impeded this offense in comparison to Ronny's .375/.432/.575, yeah, it has a little. what an incredibly asinine reason to bash someone. they've been playing concurrently much of the time but that probably doesnt matter for your ridiculous argument. Mostly his offensive play hasn't hurt us. But his 6/11 in SB attempts is really, really bad. And he had a crucial error that may have (probably did?) cost us a game Thursday.
  15. It's a lifetime of pain, not just this April. No, he's right. Games in April don't count, so no need to get upset.
  16. don't pick again until the 7th. Does Woodson fall all the way through the 6th?
  17. I'll admit it, I was hoping he wouldn't swing at all during the AB. Either take the walk or the K. Crap.
  18. Jerry's much more comfortable with Rex and Kyle than I am.
  19. bowman?
  20. I was glad they drafted him too. I didn't want the Bears to end up w/ him.
  21. Booty or Johnson, I hope we don't even touch Dixon or Brennan with a 10 foot pole. Dixon, Booty, 10 foot pole? read the first 2 names very fast together. Reminds me of when the Dolphins had Cox and Beavers at linebacker. Cox obviously was on the inside...
  22. It's 8 days off and every pitcher on the team but Lilly will have pitched 2 games in between Hill's starts. He's being skipped. I can't believe there's this much of a dispute as to whether it's a "skip" or a "shuffle."
  23. This is only the 2nd year we've had the league. IMB started it last year and then I took it up this year. Though participation after the draft was basically equal in both years. I don't think we'll see year 3.
  24. is that sarcastic? Is your Ronny Cedeno signature sarcastic?
  25. Why give him away for nothing when he might be useful someday? Soriano seems like a guy that may get hurt again. Theriot and Cedeno could both stop hitting. In that scenario the Cubs would probably start both Murton and Derosa. Does that seem all that unlikely? Yes. Theriot is going to play long before Murton. We're assuming Soriano is out for an extended time? If Theriot isn't hitting and Cedeno wins the SS job, either Fontenot will start at 2B or Theriot will (Theriot was really bad last year and kept his job). Either way, DeRosa or Reed Johnson is going to be in LF and Fontenot, Theriot and Cedeno will cover MIF. I don't see a scenario, absent significant injury to 3 of those players where Murton would play regularly. And I'm not saying give him away. I think he should go back to AAA and play regularly. We can hope he goes back to putting up .900+ OPS like the last 2 times he was in AAA and maybe we can trade him for value.
