  1. That sounds like me. And I'm still sort of sticking with it. It takes more than 2/3rds of a season for me to say a guy is going to be durable enough to be a starter. But I'm a lot more excited than I was. Plus your opinion changes with a light breeze
  2. Yep, this. Right. I was responding directly to the accusation that if you liked Bob, you'd see his comments one way and if you didn't like him, you'd see his comments as racism. I generally like him, but some of his comments are unsettling to me. If I thought Bob was racist, I'd hate him.
  3. Yeah no. I don't mind Brenly in his current role. He's not the greatest but he fits well with Len. The only thing that bothers me about Brenly is his racism. And he's a great example of a guy who doesn't seem overtly racist but boy he can't help ragging on minorities, deserved or not. His handful of positive comments about Soriano don't undo all he's said in the past and continues to say. Interesting, because there is an argument to be made that his favorite player on the team this season is David DeJesus. Just ask him how much he loves his approach to the game and his at-bats. But, again, don't let his positive comments about minority players get in the way of his negative ones. I continue to realize that no matter what examples I give, people are just going to see it the way they want. I'm certain they could say the same about me in this instance. You can't see that maybe Bob might not like a lot of things about Alfonso and says them not because he's racist but because that's how he feels from a baseball standpoint. But when he sees something he likes from the same player from a baseball standpoint, well, that can't undo all the things he said he didn't like about him. You said if I liked Bob I'd see it one way (your way) and if I didn't like him, I'd see it another way (racism). I generally like Bob except I tend to think he has some issues with often calling out a lack of hustle among minorities, for example. In the times I've listened to him, it seemed like the most frequent targets of his criticism, esp as it relates to hustle, are Latin or black players. He was very vocal about Aramis in this regard. That suggests some underlying racism. Though I'd also say guys like Kaplan and the folks TT mentioned are 'worse' on my list, though that may be bc I haven't listened to the cubs as much as read about them this year.

  5. yeah, sammy was hated by many back in the 99/00/01 timeframe when "he only hit HR when it didn't matter" was the main complaint. I think he still holds the record for most consecutive seasons with more than 60 meaningless HRs.
  6. Who knows. But whether a RB starts or not isn't terribly significant if he plays about as much as he normally would. The guy worked out at the team facilities and only missed a week of camp. Hoke is dodging the question of whether he'll play. So his actions make it at least as likely that he will play as that he won't.
  7. we're likely without Toussaint, so i can see us losing by a couple scores and falling to like, 14 but i can't help but wonder where we'll get slotted if we actually win He's already back at practice after missing only a week.
  8. Mike Trout + your #2 pick
  9. And even though I'm not coming back and really have no say, this is something I could fully agree with Adam on. A suggestion to continue to have all managers participate to the very end is to have a non playoff team bracket. Whoever wins, gets the #1 overall pick as a prize. I'd keep it the same for all non-playoff teams. But draft pick order for playoff teams are decided by the final season results. That way, a guy that's always doing well at the end of July, but can't seem to get over the hump, like abuck, isn't "penalized." People who have terrible teams should continue to actively manage, though they may be less active as the season wears on. That's true of all fantasy leagues.
  10. I have the #1 pick. It's not for sale.
  11. Paul Ma-own
  12. Can I trade Maholm through waivers? He's [expletive] owning.
  13. Counter examples don't make it right. Should I list all the players who started off looking promising, had a hiccup and never recovered? There are more of those, btw, they're just less memorable. How many of them were as talented/touted and successful as Castro? And at what ages? Not a perfect comp and injuries had something to do with it, but this is one I never liked seeing on Castro's otherwise amazing comp lists: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/templga01.shtml Any struggles can be directly attributed to the excessive use of 'r' in his first name. Or the excessive use of coke in his free time. One man's excessive might be perfectly reasonable to Daryl Strawberry.

  15. Are you talking to me? I'm saying he still projects to be a really good player throughout his prime. But that this season (on offense) has been disastrous compared to what was hoped for as progression for a 22 year old that was on a HOF track. If you plotted his reasonable outcomes (on offense) for this year, his performance has been way towards the bottom end of that distribution. What word would you like to describe one of the least desirable outcomes? Of course I am. You asked people for their opinions but told them to keep in mind something that might bias them toward the conclusion you wanted them to draw. And I would totally post a taxi driver clip if I weren't on my mobile.
  16. Haha. Tell me how you feel about him. Keep in mind why you should feel he's done poorly.
  17. He's been one of often just 2 decent hitters on a [expletive] team that's been out of the race since spring training. He's 22. I'm just glad he isn't playing angry birds on his iPhone while being stranded on 2b.
  18. Ruh roh honey badger
  19. Slomo to Ride of the Valkyries please
  20. To be fair, most mid-season prospect rankings had dropped Brett entirely from the top 100, so C.C. is kind of right since we were talking about where he was rated "most recently." CC had no idea he'd been ranked #32 as of the start of this year. He also had no idea where he'd been ranked mid-season. The complete lack of knowledge was the point of the post.
  21. You didn't know BJax was ranked that highly? I'm shocked a cubs fan that posts on this board so frequently could miss that info
