  1. Is this going to get going again or are we done for the night?
  2. This is ridiculous, even for you. I'm not all aboard the Mervis train by any means because you're probably right about him, but to dismiss him entirely like you are when he's done nothing but hit for over a year and a half now, mostly pitched in college, and hasn't had the same number of ABs as most prospects his age is just silly. Would you be more amenable to comparing total PAs across college and MiLs to get a better prospect comp?
  3. I got hosed because apparently didn't pitch in the 2006 playoffs.
  4. Apparently there was a lot of griping from front offices about the 6:00 EDT deadline for deals. I actually kind of like this suggestion:
  5. Is that really a big factor though? There was going to be one pitcher or another that had to wear it whether it was the 20 run game or they put in actual pen guys and had tired arms later in the series. Live to fight another day when you're already beaten or minimize the damage now and sacrifice the possibility of winning a game in a couple days. With the state of the Reds pitching staff right now, I'm not sure it would have mattered much either way.
  6. This is just me spitballing since he's not even actually available yet, but any thoughts on kicking the tires on Keuchel? 1.13 ERA and missing some bats with 28K in 32 IP. GB rate is good but allowed a 1.25 WHIP but who knows how much of that was bad defense related with all the GBs.
  7. This might not be the place for you if you think that's getting political.
  8. Cards fans are hilariously mad about the return for Flaherty. I guess they thought Holliday was coming back in return. Morons.
  9. I'm not mad about that if it's accurate.
  10. Joey Gallo wishes he was as cool as Joey Votto. 😜
  11. Any thoughts on whether or not the numbers are in part a result of an altered approach with 2 strikes? Especially lately, I've seen a good number of times where he's flipped a ball into LF with 2 strikes at a low EV but it's gone for a hit. That combined with the drop in Ks leads me to believe that it's not all a decrease in ability/performance and may be a strategy to get on base more and K less.
  12. I think there’s the emotional piece from the players that needs to be considered as well. A team this hot has players that are going to expect that they’re going to get help. Just look at what happened to the Brewers after they traded Hader last year. I’ll be really disappointed if they don’t add something, even if it’s just a pen arm or two to make Kay and Rucker not ever see the light of day again this season.
  13. Bowden suggesting a trade where the Cubs bring back more OFs is just comical. Does he pay any attention at all to organizational needs? https://theathletic.com/4725542/2023/07/27/mlb-trade-deadline-scenarios/ Cubs trade CF Cody Bellinger to Phillies for OF Gabriel Rincones Jr. and OF Carlos De La Cruz
  14. If they IL him retroactive to the last game he pitched in on 7/22, that means he'd be available to come off on 8/7. Probably not a bad move to make at this point if he's agreeable to it.
  15. double
  16. He's getting paid like a CF in FA regardless of where he ends up playing because that's the contract someone will be willing to offer him so I don't think it has much relevance to the conversation.
  17. McLaughlin's mea culpa was actually pretty sincere and from the heart and involves some mental health issues causing a relapse so while I won't excuse his actions I'm not going to bag on him too much.
  18. Brad Thompson is the Cards color guy, so he's a former MLer but he's still a moron.
  19. So a 0 WAR player isn't better than the black hole of Mancini, Mervis and Hosmer at a combined -1.8 bWAR to this point in the season?
  20. I think the glut of good not great prospects is something that can't be overstated considering the 40 man crunch they'll be in this offseason. They're definitely in this weird purgatory and I just hope Jed et al are creative enough to use some of that surplus in a useful way, whether that's adding a prospect or two to a Stroman trade to get an upper level well regarded prospect or if it's just packaging prospects to shore up the pen (with hopefully a player that has some additional years of control).
  21. As someone else has mentioned, I think the optimal situation here is that you somehow trade Stroman for the best prospect you can get, replace his production by trading PCA+ for an available starter (preferably with some additional years of control), then sign Bellinger to a 5 year deal. Obviously the order those things would have to happen in makes it highly impractical and unlikely, but that's my ideal scenario even with the talk of the underlying stats being a little suspect for Bellinger.
  22. Those were the 2 I used to get 9/9.
