  1. I'm kinda baffled by this move. He's been terrible with the bat of late, in theory you have Nico and Dansby available starting today, and he's not going to see much playing time. Unless Nico is going to DH for a few days until he really feels 100%, I just don't get bringing Vazquez up at all. Even if it was for defense, thinking Mastro can't handle SS based on a bobbled exchange on a ball a lot of guys may not even get to and a bad throw seems like an overreaction.

I mean, he doesn't have much of a choice. The dude can't walk 18 holes 4 days in a row very frequently so playing more tournaments isn't really an option.

  4. We're past the usual deadline for a game thread and since I'm here' I'll post it. Hopefully Kyle can build on not sucking last time out and the Cubs benefit from already having seen Skenes. Mods delete if necessary.
  5. The Cubs avoided the sweep in ATL and managed to remain 1.5 games behind the Brewers. The pitching matchups probably slightly favor the Cubs in this series, but the Bucs aren't sending any slouches out there. The vaunted™️Brewers face off in a 3 game set against the Astros this weekend, so there likely won't be much help coming in the form of Brewers' losses but you never know. Go Cubs!
  6. Hey, I expect timely responses when I ask you to do my homework for free fella! No worries. Hell, I couldn't even get a game thread up in a timely fashion because of work shenanigans so I get it.
  7. This feels like a situation where because they're so bereft of talent, they may take quantity over quality. Something like Alcantara and some other position we have depth in maybe?
  8. @1908_Cubs Any insight on the under the hood stuff to tell us if we should be getting excited about this or not?
  9. The Cubs are 5-5 in their last 10, have lost 2 in a row to the Braves, the offense has been putrid of late, everyone is hurt, our pets heads are falling off, yet they remain only 1.5 games behind the Brewers for the NL Central lead. All is not lost and they have a 4 games with the Pirates coming up to hopefully right the ship a bit. Go Cubs!
  10. @Brock Beauchamp of course my turn came up on a day I was stuck in meetings all morning.
  11. He's just so damned arrogant and condescending. It's a miracle it hasn't bitten him in the ass before now. It's also patently obvious from the way the Shildt firing was handled that Oli is nothing more than a yes man for him. I really think his arrogance and the "Cardinal Way" BS that whole franchise has bought into has completely handicapped them when it comes to adapting to change and some of the new technology and strategy in the game and it's manifesting in their inability to develop young players or rehab older guys like they had been able to do very regularly until the last couple years. The level of discontent with the franchise right now is incredibly high and unfortunately for the fans, I don't think it's changing anytime soon.
  12. I say Happ goes to the IL when Seiya is back, you kick Belli to RF, Tauchman to LF and let Seiya DH. Something is clearly not right with Ian right now.
  13. Hey, screw you and your actual data. My feelings are more important. 🤣 Interesting to see those numbers. Are Happ and Dansby outliers in anyway there?
  14. I don't think there's a need to do damage to the opposite field, but taking the pitches that way when warranted is something they're not doing enough. Eventually pitchers will get tired of getting nickel and dimed to death and have to come back inside to the power, or they miss getting all the way in and then the hitters can pounce on those pitches.
  15. I think it was Girardi the other day who mentioned Swanson was pulling off everything and needs to look to RF to get back on track. This feels like a pretty pertinent observation since we've seen evidence that he's being pitched away, away, away right now. I think the same is true for Happ and the other day he got a pitch in the zone on the outer 3rd, looked at it for a strike, then took the next pitch in a similar location back up the middle on an attempt to pull it when he likely could have hit a line drive to right if he was looking that way.
  16. He was, but he was also making up the fact that they weren't good last year the entire time, which is really what I'm referencing here. It's fairly obvious to those paying attention (and documented above) that we're in a little bit of a down offensive environment right now and that's been compounded for the Cubs by missing their 2 best offensive players.
  17. Convenient way out for the guy making stuff up.
  18. The point is you're bitching about an offense that has been without its 2 best players for several weeks on top of the fact that you're ignoring the offense was actually good last year. No, many people didn't see this coming because how can you anticipate Belli and Seiya going down at the same time plus Happ and Swanson cratering in productivity? You're just making stuff up to fit your narrative.
  19. This ump has been a problem today and in some key spots.
  20. Whatever the last pitch he threw to Merrill was must look just like a fastball that cuts away from lefties coming out of his hand because Merrill was frozen.
  21. "He's got room..........and it's gone!" 🤣
  22. I'll be mildly shocked if it's not Morel.
  23. It used to just be called transactions and was a catch all for everything, especially useful around the trade deadline. I think that's the way to go.
  24. While I hate the bad umpiring, I love that it screwed the Cards and the Sox proceeded to take 2 of 3 from them this weekend.
  25. I have zero interest in relievers who can't throw strikes. We have plenty of those already and the pitch lab hasn't figured out how to fix that problem yet.
