I mean, two pretty significant injuries derailed the tracks of both Canario and Kilian so I'm not sure that's a fair assessment.

It's been gone for over a year now. I haven't really missed it since I'm outside the Cubs broadcast area and get almost all the games through the MLBTV app. It's pretty annoying though.

The no money on the books thing is kind of baffling to me. Like, I get not wanting to have a bunch of guys locked into long term deals because nobody knows exactly what the payroll rules/limitations will be going forward, but this weird need to have nothing on the books going into those negotiations is just weird and it feels like something a smart team could take advantage of. It's not like guys will be getting paid when they're locked out so it's not some huge risk that could cost them millions.

They've absolutely quit on this season. The closeouts on 3s are pathetic, they aren't fighting through screens, and they have zero healthy bigs at this point. Ivisic is like 60% at best right now but they can't sit him because they literally don't have anyone else to play.

Yeah, because these guys are competitive and want to squeeze out every last dollar they can while they have a chance. And you do realize that the team has to put the current value salary in an escrow account annually, so they aren't just banking the money. Boston has to put that extra $9 million deferred (really probably something like $6-8 million depending on the payout structure) aside this year and it gets paid out as the contract stipulates.

He certainly could demand that as many who are signing in CA or NY or other high income tax states have done for the simple fact that they can collect that money later when they're living in a low/no income tax state. There are real advantages to doing that for the player but other than reducing the CBT number, I really don't see any for ownership.

The cry of "poor us" because of all the investments they've made around Wrigley just rings so hollow when it's obvious they're making a ton of money off all of that property they own. -

I hate rule number one with a fiery passion. The game threads forum should just be moved to Baseball Forums during the season so it's obvious where they are and they don't much up the other topics. But I'm old and set in my ways and will just deal with it if it doesn't change. -
Most of the pressure came off the edges but Jalen Carter was absolutely ridiculous yesterday. I think he was also lined up opposite of Trey Smith most of the game.

I was very surprised at how pass heavy they were in the first half when it became obvious their line wasn't holding up.

I replaced my living room TV a few months ago and went with a Roku because the user interface is so much better. My old Samsung was doing all kinds of weird stuff between the apps and a giant blue splotch on the screen. They're so incredibly cheap too.

I would be shocked if they didn't have everything in a trust and money set aside for that since this has been coming for at least 10 years.

I would say no on the pitching staff. Steele in arb, Shota at $15m, Taillon at $18M, and Boyd at $14.5M, so that's a pricy starting rotation at the very least. The pen will likely be cheap outside of any FA signings though.

I think adapting your thesis to "You need a QB for sustained success" is probably a better way to frame it. There are teams who have a pop up years all the time with a QB who has a career year or some other factor influencing their record, but really only the teams with a good QB have year over year success.

My biggest concern with a Bregman signing is that it's likely to put them over the CBT again this year and that makes it much less likely that they sign Tucker to an extension. I find it real hard to believe they would go over 3 consecutive years and in order to avoid that, as has been pointed out, you'd need to move some salary going into 2026. I think that's a plausible route with 2 OF, 2 SP, and Shaw just sitting there waiting for a promotion in Iowa so it can likely be done without too drastic of a drop off in production.

Are you saying Jed allowing the Dodgers to only pay $1.7M of his contract was a better offer than other teams (like they were wanting the Dodgers to pay $2.5M or something?). Either case seems plausible since he had to be traded last night or he was getting released and they were on the hook for the whole thing.

Neither are the contracts in spite of what people want to claim. If Flaherty is healthy, his deal is 2/$45 because getting to 15 starts this year is a near given if he's not injured. Boyd maxes out at 2/$29, less than 2/3 of what Flaherty can make.
