  1. How is this already on the 2nd page? Anyway, big win for Illinois last night. I was worried after watching the 1st half and didn't get to see the 2nd. I'm a little concerned about the regression from Davis and Chet the last few games other than IU.
  2. The Duke system only works really well when Coach K is getting every call to go his way. That's really what the problem is for ND. Well, that, and like you said, they don't play any defense.
  3. The help side defense was absolutely awful the whole second half. Rotation was terrible and there was no communication on the weave thing they were doing up top. They'll get better and Michigan caused some weird matchups, but going 1-1 in the 1st 2 conference games is fine, especially with the win at PU.
  4. Go whoever's playing Duke!!!!!!!! I keed, I keed. But yeah, I hope Duke loses.
  5. In his defense, the reffing was awful both ways, Illinois just got a little bit worse end of it than Michigan. They weren't calling anything under the basket, and I'm not sure which team that helped or hurt more.
  6. Two of the players you mentioned play a premium defensive position, and the third is making significantly less than Soriano. No he isn't. Annualized it's not even $1M less per year. Soriano got 2 more years, but not much more money per.
  7. Thank you. If you go to Mackey you can probably say that to them in person because they are likely shooting free throws right now. yeah, because the refs are still calling fouls on the illini. The game was called fairly. not really. Eh, there were some questionable calls both ways. The only really bad call was the foul at the end of regulation on Davis. Typical B10 game other than that.
  8. Probably old news, but Steve Phillips was on ESPN radio the other day and was speculating the Mets might have to scale back a little because the Wilpon's had a ton of money tied up with Madoff. May affect their ability to sign big names a little.
  9. Izzo and Ryan could both outcoach Sampson without putting forth much effort. Both are far superior in preparation and in game adjustments to Sampson.
  10. I'm an Illini fan and it was a great win for the Illini, but I don't think they're as good as they looked tonight and I don't think Mizzou is as bad as they looked at times tonight. Bad shooting night for the Tigers, partially caused by good defense they hadn't seen yet this year. Good shooting night for the Illini and much of that was a lot of easy looks after breaking the press and really hot shooting early by McCamey. Illinois may end up top 20 at the end of the year if the young guys (McCamey in particular) can stay consistent. Mizzou may well end there just because the B12 North is so weak.
  11. How does Illinois not even get a vote in the coaches poll? I don't think they should be ranked yet, but the vote totals in the other poll seem a little more realistic.
  12. Just like the 3-12 Cardinals had nothing to play for a few years back when they beat the Vikings to knock them out of the playoffs? That's completely different though. That team was playing the spoiler role, so they had that to play for. That is motivation. The Giants have no motivaiton whatsoever. They'll be resting guys and basically just going through the motions and trying to avoid injuries. I'd probably rather have them play a crappy team than play a good team that has already clinched everything they can. I wouldn't count on Coughlin mailing it in. They played NE tough last year in the last game when they really had nothing to play for, and it helped start their momentum toward the Super Bowl. Jacobs probably doesn't play because he's hurt, but I would be Eli starts and plays the whole game, as does most of their starting offense and defense. This is exactly what I was going to post. Last year they had the playoffs locked up and still went balls to the wall to try to beat the Pats. Wouldn't surprise me a bit to see them play their regulars most, if not all, of the game.
  13. It's close to home for him and probably pays the same as having to spend 2 days trying to fly in somewhere and waste a bunch of time instead of being able to drive there and back and officiate the game in 1 day. He lives in Edwardsville so it's only about 2.5 hours to UI.
  14. I'm fairly certain he won't be ready any time soon, if at all. I think he's probably closer to retirement than pitching again. Plus, would he really go somewhere other than the Braves? He doesn't seem like a paycheck chaser to me.
  15. Rumors floating around down here are that if the Cabrera-Cameron deal doesn't go through the Yankees may be interested in Ankiel, possibly for Kennedy.
  16. Derosa is a nice player but he's not nearly good enough to hold up a trade for far better player. He's replacable, and just because you don't care about his age doesn't mean that it's not an issue. No, that production is not replaceable at 2B. Now if you tell me you are working on a Furcal deal after DeRo gets moved for Peavy, then we'll talk. But let's not make it seem that DeRo is some scrub player that can be easily replaced by a Fontenot or old ass veteran. Yeah, DeRosa really showed up in the playoffs when he fumbled an easy DP in Game 2 (opening the floodgates) and then went 0-4 in Game 3. Furthermore, why does DeRosa seem to skate by with mistakes while someone like Soriano never does? I can remember a few times during the season he made dumb defensive or baserunning plays, and nothing was mentioned. Because it was an aberration for DeRosa and not a once a week occurrence like it seems to be for Soriano. And it's not like he didn't get a few hits in the post season. Was it disappointing? Yeah, but they were physical mistakes and not mental errors like other players make. And as others have mentioned, he's making $4 million, not $14 million.
  17. someone get HCF to translate Try it now, that's my guess.
  18. That article is specious and a crock. I'll refer you to CCP's post for more. I didn't say it was accurate or reflected my opinion on the situation. I just thought his ideas on how the NCAA looked at the situation were interesting. I don't have any idea if he's accurate or not. I'm in agreement with those who say their punishment was enough with the exception of the APR stuff. Post season punishment that would have actually affected them would have been way too excessive considering that likely would have resulted in a 3 year ban.
  19. Are any of the MiL guys the Mets sent worth anything?
  20. Plus, if he takes injury factor into account, playing on grass in Wrigley is probably a better bet than playing on turf in Tampa.
  21. I know it's been discussed a ton on here, but here's an article about the non-punishment Indiana got. A few interesting things I hadn't heard before about the decision making process by the NCAA. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/news?slug=dw-indiana120908&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
  22. Can somebody post the particulars? I've been websensed on the link provided.
  23. he's clever enough with the ball and he has a quick enough shot to get it off in the nba, at least i think he does. if you look at him and then look at jj redick when he came out, who looks like a better prospect? curry by a mile, because he can create his own shot and he looks like he might actually be able to run the point. I think he looks like a less muscular version of Ben Gordon. Quick with a quick release and a great shot.
  24. I don't think teams should be able to host bowl games. It pretty much runs directly against the entire point of bowl games (which is two similarly talented teams meeting on a neutral field) Disclaimer: I'm a Big Ten homer (I know you're a PSU guy) How do you feel about USC getting to play in the Rose Bowl, LSU in the Sugar Bowl, ASU (once in a blue moon) in the Fiesta, or Miami in the Orange Bowl?
  25. Ball State just got called out on Tirico and Van Pelt for not taking the game against Boise in Boise. I see no reason they were at fault since they (according to our own Andy anyway) offered to play the game wherever on a neutral field. Thoughts?
