  1. I have to agree with this. Miller may not have the upside that Pearson does but there's something to be said for the predictability he'll likely provide.
  2. Is there some way of quantifying how good pitchers are at getting called strikes that indicates a sustainable level of deception? Like last night, he didn't get much swing and miss, but 6 of his 13 strikes were called, including both strikeout pitches. I know there's not as much swing and miss as you'd like to see, but is the called strike thing repeatable because of the pitch mix or deception in delivery?
  3. I mean, there are at least 3, unfortunately none of them can hit their way out of a wet paper bag. They mostly aren't kicking the ball over the infield anymore at this point.
  4. Yeah, the shot by Berti that Mervis snagged and the Nico ball to RF both would have added to the run total. I’d like to see the xBA on Nico’s ball.
  5. Apparently Palencia would like a word with whoever was downplaying his swing and miss ability. Two Ks looking is really nice.
  6. That's about the only category they're better than the Cubs in.
  7. I saw a highlight video of Monongai blocking yesterday (both blitz pickups and run blocking) and I have a feeling that part of his game is a big reason why the Bears grabbed him. The guy is willing and will lay people out when given the opportunity. Looks like another piece to try to protect Caleb and keep him healthy.
  8. I saw a top 10 songs this week in 2000 list this morning and it hit me like ton of bricks that I graduated from college 25 years ago this month.
  9. Derek Shelton has been relieved of his duties with the Pirates. That franchise is such a shitshow. I feel bad for him.
  10. They should already be in the clear there. He's been in Iowa for 24 days and 172 days is a full year of service time. No way he hits that with already being down that long.
  11. I just said the same thing to a friend. By far the worst series I can recall from a crew in a long time.
  12. Yeah, the bat just looks slow af at this point.
  13. Pressly isn't getting released after one really bad outing. It's much more likely this is injury related and it's affecting his ability to get the same leg drive he normally does and that's diminishing his stuff. As has been mentioned, the fall off a cliff of his whiff% is a dead giveaway that it's injury related because if he was just getting old it would be a much more gradual drop.
  14. Flexen being used like he was last night leads me to believe we see a Horton call up to start Saturday. But I don't really know anything so take that with a grain of salt.
  15. I suspect last night was a combination of rust from not having pitched since May 1st and his knee is probably less than 100%. I also thought about the tipping pitches thing because they were squaring him up so much. Maybe an IL stint fixes it, but I don't believe he's done based on what we were seeing before the knee thing popped up. It's one loss, they can go out and win another series tonight and it's no big deal.
  16. This is absolutely true. I don't think Cubs fans realize how lucky we've been over the years to have top notch booths. Listening to the Reds, Cardinals, or just about anyone else is like fingernails on a chalk board. Ham handed analysis and the corniest play by play schtick (Chip, I'm looking at you).
  17. Same. Kinda why I want them to get Tucker taken care of so he can be traded for a big arm.
  18. What news is everyone thinking they're seeing here? He got put on the 15 day IL because they wanted another arm available tonight and we don't know anything other than he has a hamstring strain. Has anyone seen anything from the scan he was getting today?
  19. There were 35 pitchers who were 3 bWAR or better in 2024 and 4 of them were relievers. Seems like it's not out of the realm of possibilities that a guy like Shota (who was on that list at 3.0 bWAR) would be worth $30 million.
  20. @Jason Ross I know you've already said you think the adjustments Rea has made are more real than smoke and mirrors. Any data points to confirm that after another solid outing today? Or are we still in wait and see what adjustments hitters make mode?
  21. I would have considered another inning for Rea with the bottom of the order due, him only at 73 pitches, and this being the 3rd game of 9 straight without a day off.
  22. They should just do this all the time instead of what they did yesterday.
  23. That call on Lopez was the worst but he's gotten at least a half dozen others that were similar. Strike one to Seiya in his first AB was particularly impactful since it would have made it 2-0.
