  1. http://www.rrstar.com/sports/preps/x1638743346/Marcus-Posley-transfers-from-Winnebago-to-Auburn This is only sort of college hoops related, as the kid has committed to Ball State to play basketball, but this pisses me off. His family still lives right next door to my dad and there's no reason he should be allowed to play this year. There are no extenuating circumstances whatsoever and I hope the IHSA sticks it to him and doesn't let him play.
  2. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but having Delaney say quality over quantity would mean ND and a school out east (should push come to shove). And then hopefully no reason to go from 14 to 16 schools. Eh, if things start shifting around, they're going to have to go to 16. I think Mizzou honestly fits in better than most schools would and they bring the St. Louis (what Illinois doesn't already bring) and KC TV markets with them. Academics are good enough and it's much better geographically than others. Plus, there's already rivalries with Illinois and Nebraska. I can't see ND ever giving up their NBC contract, so who knows where they end up. I'm sure they'll add the Pitt/Rutgers/ whoever from out east to get the NY/Philly market though.
  3. Glad he recovered, but I just don't see why you bring him back to pitch in a month of meaningless games. To finish his rehab? You do realize he's been pitching in the minors for over a month right?
  4. He's in the yellow shirt on the stairs.
  5. That whole uniform looks like a bad Tour de France get up.
  6. I thought when they drafted Sczuzr they kind of hinted they want to introduce Pierre type athletes/players into the system. Resisting urge to scream out loud... I didn't really think he needed green font as absurd as the whole post was........
  7. I'd definitely be a proponent of a 2 year deal with an option year in lieu of him exercising the option next year. The 10-10-12 idea for a total of potentially 3 year/$32M seems pretty fair all around to me.
  8. Grit, toughness, and leadership shown to the players by old, tough, gritty white coaches.
  9. Man, I remember buying 12 packs of Keystone Ice in college for like $4. I could get hammered cheap! I haven't tried the Big Flats, but I'm slightly tempted every time I see it.
  10. I want to say September call-ups don't count with regards to that, but it shouldn't matter, as only the 16% with the most service time between 2-3 years get early arbitration. You're right. September call ups don't count toward ML service time.
  11. Rams over 7.5 (even) Packers under 11.5 (-150) Broncos over 5.5 (-140) Panthers over 4.5 (-135) seem like easy money too I debated taking Rams over 7.5, the other 3 I don't want to touch, but I think I'd disagree with you on all 3 bets. Yeah, you might want to take a real close look at the Rams schedule before you say they're going over 7.5. That thing is going to be tough, starting with Philly to open the season (I think).
  12. Dempster was once a 200+ inning pitcher before he was a reliever. He had maybe 1500 professional innings as a starter by the time he was Samardzija's age. It was a matter of going back to what he was. I'm not really sure there's a good comparison there, or that you can have Samardzija do what Dempster did. Um, CJ Wilson?
  13. Well, if they trade Byrd and go get a right fielder, that may not be the worst thing in the world. This is assuming BJax is good to go at the start of next season and they get some more starting pitching.
  14. Well, it wasn't technically a career ending injury. He retired instead of having surgery. It's still a completely different situation than Z though. Unless of course he's hurt and hasn't bothered to tell anybody. Which, really, given his history, would that really surprise anybody?
  15. I may be talking out my ass here, but Johnny Miller seems to be a good comp. He was never as dominant as Tiger, but certainly had the ego that couldn't take not being the best.
  16. Won't Lee have an advantage because of how short the Crawford Boxes are in Houston as well? I mean, there's less ground where a hit could fall in and a ball off the wall there might get caught by a Campana type guy at a different field.
  17. Or, the Cards took a chance on a guy who had been a really, really good player in the past but hadn't been healthy in a couple of years and finally was. Now, granted, they hit the jackpot in the fact that he's been reasonably healthy all year, but it's not like they're getting an MVP type season out of a guy with a history like Reed Johnson.
  18. At least he's not allergic to walks like it seems most of our high upside guys seem to be. And if he hits .270-.280, he'll be plenty productive, especially if his arm and all around defense is as good as it seems to be.
  19. Chance? Sure. Role? Unknown. He is what he is, a polished lefty that throws strikes. He'll be in Iowa, and he's more than a JR Mathes type, so there's a chance he sees the bigs, particularly if the rotation slots line up. Pen lefty situation looks solid enough that I doubt he'd get called up for pen duty unless they wanted a long man type. More of a Ted Lilly type ceiling kind of guy?
  20. Well, no, not after the completion of an inning, but all he said was after the 9th. And they could have a lead after 9.5 innings.
  21. Cubs are 49-0 when they lead at the end of the 9th inning or later. :D You sure we haven't taken the lead in extra innings and blown it this year? There wouldn't be extra innings if we lead after the 9th ;) False! What if they're on the road smart guy? :D
  22. He can't really be any worse than what gets run out there every other night lately.
  23. I agree with this. Lugo certainly acted like he was out. he probably was out. but the replay doesn't show it clearly, and from the ump's perspective it probably looked like he whiffed on the tag. it's a borderline bad call, and certainly not even close to the worst blown call we've ever seen. That was what I thought when I saw it at full speed the first time. I'm still not convinced he tagged him, even with MLB's admission.
