    That's good right? Will be back on the field for OTAs? Same injury Cutler had last year. Who knows how severe. Definitely a whole lot better than an ACL though.

    Weber can't coach talented players. He plays a grinding style of basketball that is best suited to mid major play because you have time to develop guys over a few years because everybody stays for at least 4 years and there's not pressure to succeed every year. I also think these guys aren't listening to him anymore. The Mike and Mike years cost him all respect and authority over the players and he's just not getting his message across anymore.

    Now if we could only just get most people to acknowledge how likely it truly is that Prince is likely to "suck" at some point in the contract, we might be able to come to a consensus on how dumb offering 8 years would be. I think most people are aware of that, they're just willing to assume that risk to get the production he'd provide in the first 4-5 years of the contract. I think they're unfortunately forgetting how bad Soriano is right now in a similar situation. I don't think Fielder will end that badly at the plate, but he certainly won't be worth anywhere near what he's getting paid in years 7 and 8 of a contract.

    he's 6 feet, so knowing most nfl teams they won't even put him on their board Looks like he has a noodle arm too. That could just be my perception since he's a lefty though. They rarely look smooth throwing the ball to me.

    It's certainly more advanced than wins and ERA. I think the point is, introduce the evidence, explain it properly, and it can make a difference in who wins an arby case.

    Does pythag in any way take into account strength of schedule or is it just a measure of expected wins by runs scored vs. allowed?

    Really? You're telling me the notion of having a fire sale and rebuilding wasn't lambasted around here every time it was mentioned by the Chicago media over the past few years? Over the past few years, yeah, but that's because nobody had any faith in Hendry having any clue on how to go about doing that because he didn't look for the right things in players. Now that Theo is running things, there was hope that they would reload, but I don't think anybody is lambasting the idea of rebuilding, they're just disappointed that it's now going to be a few years before the Cubs are good again.

    Is that sarcasm? You're tracing a forearm injury from 7 years prior to Wainwright getting TJS? No. He had some forearm problems and they found a slight UCL tear that held up for a long time before he actually had to get it fixed. Granted, that's probably an extreme outlier, but obviously not impossible.

    He stole a base almost 50% of the time he reached based. He also scored approximately half of the time that he reached base. Pretty amazing numbers. You do realize that him scoring that often only has a small amount to do with his ability right? The SB numbers are impressive though.

    And forearm injuries aren't just a sore throat either. Forearm injuries very often presage TJS. Over what time-frame? Depends. Sometimes 2 weeks, sometimes 7-8 years (a la Wainwright).

    Well, newly signed FAs can't be traded until June 15 or July 1 or whatever, so that would be a problem. But I have no idea if they could trade his rights before they signed him. I would imagine there has to be something in the agreement on posting players between the NPB and MLB that would keep a team from doing that.

    Seeing as how the best we could do for Ramirez is Ian Stewart, I'm going to go with "yes." Way to cherry pick the single most barren position this off season. Also, Ramirez is not currently with the team, so he's not part of the discussion anyway.

    He absolutely is suggesting punting longterm. If you trade off all your actually productive players, and let the rest walk, without acquiring any impact players in return, it will take an extremely long time to get back to being competitive. You would effectively be starting from scratch and that takes time. The Cubs will suck for multiple years if they do that. No he's not. Read it again. He's setting them up for a major reload, be it from FA signings or trades, next off season. That's not a 4-5 year rebuild. The sheer volume of good prospects you'd have from trading all those guys would be huge or you'd get some very useful major league pieces that you can fill in around.

    Because that's not really one of the main reasons. It's a fairly minor reason, actually. Spending lots of money isn't the problem. Spending it on the wrong guys is. 31 yr old guys with holes in their swings aren't a good bet for an 8 yr deal. Zambrano has definitely been more of a problem since signing his deal, but I'm not sure anybody was real upset with that. Who knew he'd go completely bat [expletive] crazy like he has.

    So your goal is trying to win in 2020 (maybe)? How could you possibly come to that conclusion from what he posted? He's sacrificing 2012 to get a boatload of young guys and free up payroll to add significant pieces in the off season next year and be relatively competitive in 2013 with a lot of upside going forward. -Young guys don't always pan out -The FA class next year sucks offensively Not the point, but they're allowed to trade some of the young guys they acquire for bats as well. The real point is that in no way does what he's suggesting indicate punting the next 4-5 seasons to build from within and be terrible while doing it. It doesn't guarantee anything, but it certainly isn't a total rebuild that's going to take 4-5 years.

    The rumors last night and today were that the Ham Fighters were expected to accept the highest bid tonight (Tuesday morning in Japan) and that winning team would be announced shortly thereafter. It sounds like the Ham Fighters will announce their acceptance of the winning bid themselves, and then MLB will announce which team made that bid (since the Fighters don't know the identity of the bids). What form that will appear in, I have no idea. Quit calling them the Ham Fighters. They're owned/sponsored by Nippon Ham. That'd be like calling the Cubs the Steaks Cubs if they were called the Chicago Omaha Steaks Cubs.

    Hmmm... that could be a very interesting team to trade with I don't want anything to do with Rasmus. He's a headcase and was deathly afraid of the wall at Busch. He won't catch anything even close to the wall at Wrigley and I think he's destined for a corner OF spot sooner rather than later anyway, where his bat doesn't play nearly as well..

    Can somebody look and see what Dusty's typical pythag vs. actual record is season by season for his career? I'd be interested to see if his stupidity has an affect on that in any way.
