  1. If you don't trust those 2 to start a playoff game then there are maybe 5 guys in all of MLB you do trust, and I have bad news for you, none of them are getting traded before the deadline.
  2. I think the lack of pitching development as a whole during the Theo era is still rearing its ugly head. It's really what killed that "wave" of Cubs success and has certainly carried over into Jed's regime.
  3. Please be specific about who exactly they should have signed. When you go look at the guys who were available in the offseason and what they've done this year, there's about one name on the list that would be better than what they've gotten from Rea.
  4. He could be dead by then. Stay positive.
  5. Sure feels like a lot of these picks are pointing to a fun pick in the 11th round.
  6. Just based on what we've seen from prospects of late, even the best ones, is there any reason to think Long will do anything but struggle in a cup of coffee? I mean, Ballesteros has about as good of a profile as you can have to expect a guy to come up and be able to hit and we saw what he did (or didn't do). I find it difficult to imagine Long would be any kind of improvement over anything on the current MLB roster for this season.
  7. Nobody is saying don't go get someone. They're saying have some patience for another couple weeks and see if he turns a corner. That's literally exactly what we saw with PCA last year. If he's not showing something within 10 days or so after the break, then yeah, go get Suarez and keep Shaw on the bench as a late inning defensive replacement because the glove is fantastic and Suarez's, not so much.
  8. What evidence do you have that he's pressing and losing confidence by the day? Jason has presented real, tangible data to back up what he's saying and you're just going off of vibes or something? He smoked a line drive to win a game against Cleveland last week and just did the job again in an RBI situation. You're grasping at straws because you can't let go of whatever thing it is you're clutching.
  9. And Happ going down was to work on the very specific issue of laying off the high fastball.
  10. You continuing to ignore the development path of rookie hitters in today's MLB isn't going to change the way it works. Now, if he's not showing signs of improvement a week or 10 days after the break, then yeah, they have to look at doing something. But it's not a coincidence that we've seen PCA breakout after a bunch of PAs and adjustments and other rookies do similar things on similar timelines. It may never happen for Shaw, but sending him back to Iowa isn't going to help him in any way.
  11. I'm very glad you have nothing to do with the Cubs front office.
  12. Yeah, she's not only gorgeous but seems like she's cool as hell too.
  13. Yeah, they're going to hit more rockets off this guy. Just a matter of finding grass or seats instead of gloves.
  14. Yeah, looking at his numbers, the power is gone but he's hitting .266 with an OBP of .336. I don't know if he can play 3B defensively anymore (the numbers from last year make him look competent, but not great) but if he can be competent there, he's a very logical pickup assuming he clears waivers.
  15. It really is a combination of things. The heat in the summer is awful, ownership/front office are bad at messaging, the team hasn't been good, and even when tickets are cheap and easy to get, I can't get out of there under $100 for a couple beers and food for my gf and I. Wrigley isn't even that expensive for concessions.
  16. Yes, let's get rid of this guy. Qualified OF fWAR leaders since 2020: Edited to correct the graphic because I'm bad at FG.
  17. Then you don't understand or have any desire to acknowledge the development curves of prospects right now. And just like any young player, even post breakout PCA, he's likely to struggle in the postseason regardless because the pitchers are really damn good and that's why their teams are there. If he puts up a 110 wRC+ in August and September, would you still feel that way?
  18. Your inability to grasp the fact that the chasm between AAA and MLB is larger right now than ever before and there are essentially zero prospects who come up and succeed immediately anymore. It doesn't mean people are "prospect nut huggers" as you so eloquently say, it means the level of patience required for hitters to develop into quality MLB hitters is much greater than it was even 5 years ago. Guys like Horton, Skenes, and Chase Burns just aren't spending time in AAA for hitters to see that quality of pitching and make that jump to MLB easier. Nobody is saying Shaw is going to hit like PCA, they're saying he's likely to be a lot better than he's been so far once that adjustment fully happens.
  19. Nope, just one big break away from being one of the rich guys pissing on everyone else.
  20. This is utter horsefeathers and easily provably false. Please stop with the right wing propaganda. It's no more dangerous than any other major city. I live 20 minutes from Busch and got to games there and at Energizer Park for soccer on a very regular basis and have had zero issues in 20+ years living here.
  21. I don't see a great place to drop this, but on Wicks, is it possible they're setting him up to start on Thursday this week and that's why he was pulled at 40 pitches last night? That would put him between Rea and Horton to split him up from Shota and Boyd so teams aren't getting a similar look from lefties 3 days in a row. As the rotation was, if he took Taillon's spot, they would have been lined up to go 3 days in a row.
  22. I wonder if that had anything to do with Woodford exercising his out clause.
  23. Man, the people jumping off the Horton bandwagon after one bad start is pretty wild. The kid didn't have his best stuff and got victimized by that stupid short porch in Houston.
  24. For the Cubs series the heat was definitely a factor. I had opportunities to go to 2 games of the series and skipped both because it was just awful out. As TT said though, I was at a Royals game earlier and it was sparse on an absolutely beautiful night to be at a game. The fans are pissed and I don't think they're coming back until Mozeliak is gone. He's just such a condescending prick in interviews that I honestly don't blame their fanbase for being done with him.
