    It is vindictive, apparently due to him trying to interfere with the investigation. Melky tried to interfere way worse. A-Rod is a first class dick bag, but I do think they're trying to make an example here. Problem for me is that they should have done this to Braun if they wanted to make an example of someone. A-Rod's career is practically over anyway. Witness intimidation, recruiting players to Biogenesis, and trying to buy records to destroy them are all a whole lot worse than creating a fake website.

    I went to the Dodgers-Cardinals game last night and got to see Puig up close. Man, that dude is a cocky bastard. Just the way he carries himself and there were a couple fly balls hit to him where he just lollygagged over to it and almost didn't make the play on one of them. I think he's not too far from getting a few in the ribs to make a point.

    On the one hand, I tend to think it's much more about picking the right guys than it is about player development. On the other, when you're as far on the extreme end of bad in that department, the fact that we've gone from that to very good player development is probably extreme enough that it's a factor (in terms of comparing our past track record with prospects). I don't know, the Cardinals development system seems to have produced a pretty good number of hitters who really weren't all that heralded when they picked them up. Obviously they have to have talent, but I think some organizations have a knack for bringing it out much better than others.

    I'm answering on the job he's done as a whole. While he really does a lot of things right, the one area that a manager has the most effect on a game he's completely awful at and hasn't made any improvement whatsoever. I'm not even blaming him for the pen being bad, but when you make the asinine decisions he does game after game, there's a point at which it is on him and not just bad pitching.

    Yes, I do. And I'm sure they'll cross the lost draft pick bridge when it becomes an issue. As it sits right now, they have the 9th worst record in the league and it would currently be protected. Did anybody not sign a top 10 pick this year?

    Maybe this will shut up some of the people who have way overrated Nate Shierholtz. I'm sure if several team gm's had thought the club's price tag was reasonable Nate would be sporting different colors and would not be penciled in the lineup for right field tonight. Good news for Shierholtz fans - he won't make it through waivers. Bad news is I don't think he will have more value than he did this afternoon. You're right, he wont. But the price tag was obviously as high as it was because the Cubs find him to be more valuable to them than whatever was being offered. They do have to field a team next year and having his production penciled into the lineup against rightys everyday is a nice option to have rather than getting some A baller or middling AAA guy who may or may not help next year.

    For the life of me, I can't recall what we even gave up *goes from memory* A couple of pitching prospects, iirc. Justin Jones and someone named Felix something? And we got back Murton as well. *looks it up* Francis. Francis Beltran, Justin Jones, Brendan Harris (the 3b prospect that once got a Pujols comp from BP) and Alex Gonzalez (I'd forgotten we gave up our SS). As soon as I read Felix I remembered Frankie something.

    For the life of me, I can't recall what we even gave up Didn't we send some minor league pitching to the Twins (Justin Jones?) and Alex Gonzales went somewhere in the deal. No idea other than that without looking it up.

    I don't really want the Pirates to go on a deep playoff run and get the extra revenue that comes with it. There was a huge debate down here in the last couple of years about the Cards getting a bunch of extra revenue from playoff games and that whole thing was debunked I believe. It pretty much came down to having to make it to the World Series for the money to become remotely significant and even then it was a huge, go out and sign all the players amount (or really even one significant contract).

    It was obvious that Pujols was lying about his age long before I even knew what plantar fasciitis was. What a weird comment. Not really, since there's no actual evidence that he's not as old as he says he is. While it's never really all that surprising if a LA player is revealed to have done something like this, given that Pujols was already in the system and a new player when 9/11 happened and baseball faced a serious visa/immigration crackdown then (which is how a bunch of guys got caught within a relatively small time span) it's even more unlikely that he'd get away with this. Pretty much the only major exceptions with guys playing at that time were Soriano (because of his circuitous route through Japan) and Tejada. I think he may have escaped some of that scrutiny since he was well established in the US and went to high school and juco here. He's definitely not your everyday case and I'm pretty certain he lives in St. Louis year round. He's also been a US citizen since 2007, which I suppose would have probably caused some added attention to his birth date. Who knows?

    Gameday not only had ball 4 in the strike zone but also it was the same color as all the other strikes. (red vs blue for a ball).

    His production has been pretty much the same, FWIW. I just remember it seeming like every time he went more than an inning at a time he'd get lit up in the second inning.

    Really? You guys don't see any way that learning to use balance and leverage by getting familiarized with some MMA techniques could help you control a guy as an offensive lineman? Okay..... It's kind of like a running back or wide receiver taking ballet classes to work on balance. It makes perfect sense. I'm not saying it's the be all end all, but I can certainly see why a guy would do it and how it would be helpful.

Oh it was, was it? i have this same idiotic argument with a friend. of course, he'll never be proven "wrong" because no evidence will ever come out to the effect of "PUJOLS' STATED AGE PROVEN ACCURATE" so he can say dumb, unfounded [expletive] all the time without worrying about ever being shown to be a fool. he's now doing the same thing with CHRIS DAVIS OBVIOUSLY TAKES ROIDS. Those arguments are hilarious. While I tend to have a strong suspicion that Pujols is probably 36 or 37, there's probably not going to be any way we hear about it until after his career is over and that Angels' contract has expired so he doesn't get sued. To try to say with any kind of definitiveness that he's older than he claims is just dumb.
