  1. I don't think it's a stink, it's just deals being made where there's no precedent for the value of what's being traded.
  2. Theo was in the AL East as recently as 2011, while the other two big guys had been in the NL West for a long time. Although I don't think there's any extra familiarity with being in the same division anyway. You don't think there's any extra familiarity with guys on teams you play 17-19 times every year over a team in the other league? That's flat out ridiculous.
  3. I thought that FG article sounded a bit optimistic, but if the IFA money turns out to be as valuable of a commodity as they (FG) seem to think it is then maybe these deals actually are slanted in the Cubs favor. Who the hell knows at this point I guess.
  4. Maybe we're so strapped for cash and poor now that we had to save money in the deal in order to actually pay for all these IFAs we are signing. Ricketts=McCourt basically? With the forethought to at least have a competent FO. No way. The money is getting dumped back into other areas of the franchise and just isn't available for player payroll right now. I'd be dumbfounded if that turned out to be the case.
  5. Maybe we're so strapped for cash and poor now that we had to save money in the deal in order to actually pay for all these IFAs we are signing. That's really about the only thing that makes sense and the $500K saved in the Marmol deal is needed to get all the deals done. Really sucks if that's true, but hopefully if it is the renovations approval will make it all go away.
  6. yep Here's hoping for some Derek Johnson magic with Arrietta at least.
  7. Strop was actually pretty decent last year in 66 IP. 3.69 FIP and 4.00 xFIP. BB and K rates weren't great though.
  8. So, Villanueva back to the rotation for now? And who comes up? One of the lefties at Iowa?
  9. While that may be dumb long term, I'm all for anyone and everyone giving the finger to Bud and his cronies.
  10. What's the highest bonus that doesn't count against that? $50 or $100K? You get six free $50ks and all $10ks and lower are free. Man, that seems low. I would think some lawyer would have a field day with this rule even with the anti trust exemption in place.
  11. What's the highest bonus that doesn't count against that? $50 or $100K?
  12. The only numbers that are out of whack from him being bad earlier this year are the BB/9 and HR/9. Both obviously big problems, but he was still striking out a bunch of guys. I wonder if he's actually controlling the zone better now or if he's just getting more swings and misses on pitches out of the zone that AA guys would lay off.
  13. Man, as tough as power is to come by these days, I'm really reluctant to deal Schierholtz even with a decent return if there are any hopes of being competitive next year. Especially since he's the strong side of the platoon. I'm hoping Dejesus comes back early enough and well enough that they can get something for him instead.
  14. I think that's yet to be determined after he got his eyes fixed.
  15. are stress fractures things that happen at one point or something that builds over time? I don't think it's possible to pinpoint a time when a stress fracture occurred. It may not actually be a stress fracture as that's just kind of a general term for vertical "cracks" in the tibia. It could well have been caused by the foul ball off the leg and there's just not a better term for it.
  16. Hell, that's probably worse than pulling the trigger in terms of how much time he'd serve.
  17. The reveal on that one was fantastic. I could watch this all night. What am I missing? The fact that the 2B had a cup of coffee between the time he caught the ball and threw it because Molina is super fast.
  18. hilarious, and amazing that teams could get excited about a mediocre reliever who has a solid month or two. but please, sell that snake oil jed/theo. It's not snake oil, he's a completely different pitcher who's reinvented himself. Apparently you haven't been paying attention.
  19. It hit 101 at one point. It also hit a bat that drove in a couple runs. But he was throwing hard. I was there and the stadium gun was 98-100 on every FB.
  20. After 10 years, yeah, you've established a large enough set of data that that's probably a safe assumption. What we're talking about here is an in season ERA that's much lower than previous performance would indicate. Things like an unsustainable HR/FB ratio, a really high strand rate of baserunners, and low K/BB ratio would be dead giveaways that the low ERA isn't sustainable. Those things are factored into FIP and xFIP to give you a more accurate assessment of performance.
  21. And I don't think he ever saw the shot that tied it at 5. Looked like the defender diving to block the shot screened him until it was too late because of the trajectory of the shot and the fact that it stayed low so long. He just never reacted to that one at all until it was right on him.
