  1. You can get some significant time before it goes. I think Wainwright had a partial tear for 5-6 years or more before his went. One of the reasons the Braves gave him up was because of some elbow questions.
  2. http://m.mlb.com/video/v60085883/mlb-players-recite-famous-field-of-dreams-speech Pretty cool. Good job by most of the players not sounding terrible delivering their lines.
  3. Trade bait or to develop into a full time starter? If he's gonna hit for a little pop, and add value in the bases and CF not sure why you wouldn't want him on the bench adding MLB value. Power aside, he put up a .315 OBP in the PCL last year and .273 in the majors. In order to be useful even in a bench role, he'll have to show a whole new level of ability in more than just power. Right now, he's the 5th outfielder by default because Denorfia is hurt and Lake is just as terrible, but he needs to prove at AAA that he has what it takes to be a long-term reserve outfielder in the majors. Right, but don't we normally see more OBP with added power due to pitchers nibbling a bit more? I mean, Theriot and Barney's eventual downfalls were because pitchers just weren't afraid to throw them strikes because they knew they couldn't do any serious damage.
  4. I like this idea a lot. Even when things were getting written, I never went to the front page unless somebody linked to the article or commented on it being good.
  5. How so? The only 2 question marks are 3B and LF. I'd think we're likely to be above average to really good everywhere else, and possibly even at those 2 spots depending on who ends up there (i.e Bryant in LF and Olt/Russell at 3B).
  6. May not be the best spot for it, but I just saw that Craig Sager's leukemia is back.
  7. Do you have MLB.tv? It's on there. It's on WGN locally but WGN won't be showing games nationally anymore. Whhhhaaaaaa? I dropped the mlb package on directv because I figured that between WGN and CNSC that I would get most games this year. WGN America completely dropped Chicago sports. Also, assuming you mean CSNC, I think you'll be blacked out of those games if you don't have the EI package. Yeah, I just realized this. Too bad, guess they didn't want to pay for national rights? Getting Extra Innings anyway, but still sucks. If you travel at all, the MLB.TV package is the way to go. I like it for that reason and I can also listen/watch at work depending on how my internet connection is that day.
  8. This looks like it's gonna be fun to watch.
  9. But the better option is to keep him out of the HOF out of spite because he is awful. I generally agree with you, but it's not like he's ever really done anything that hurt anyone other than himself.
  10. he did the worst thing you can do and doesn't deserve a second chance ever. if you want to put him in the hall of fame because you care that he hung around forever and hit a bunch of crappy singles when he was 45, go for it, but he does not deserve a job with an mlb team ever again. and if he is reinstated there is no way the Reds would hesitate to hire him for $100,000/year to just hang out all year and let people kiss his ring. I think there's a middle ground of HOF eligible but not allowed to be on a team's payroll that solves most of those problems. That's obviously simplistic, but you get the idea.

  12. minnesota isn't that weird, but do they not sell Packer throwbacks? Yeah, there's probably a half dozen Packer jerseys I'd expect to see before Kobe. Or even some of the old school Brewers like Molitor and Yount.
  13. Kobe in Minnesota and Wisconsin seems kind of weird to me. I wouldn't expect it to be an NBA player in either of those states, let alone Kobe.
  14. Ha! Joe Posnanski ‏@JPosnanski 42m42 minutes ago Kris Bryant = Roy Hobbs. 7 retweets 18 favorites Ken Tremendous ‏@KenTremendous 18m18 minutes ago @JPosnanski Not a perfect comparison. Hobbs slumped occasionally. 0 retweets 0 favorites
  15. Hasn't he been okay until today? I'm willing to chalk today up to him being out of his routine with the late arrival to the game. Not that I have real high hopes for him, but I don't think he's near as bad as he was today.
  16. I think the video was in the playoffs thread, but the guy apparently got shot in a robbery attempt he walked in on.
  17. If they stay healthy, I think they're the best team. However, between Wainwright and Wacha's health, the age of Peralta, Molina and Holliday, and the uncertainty of Heyward, there's a pretty significant downside to their potential.
  18. Agreed, this team is not very good. Offensively, they're bad and rely on their size rather than ability on defense. Yet they're likely to put that 76 Hoosiers team out of their misery. The NCAA needs to keep players until their a junior or turn 21 to remain relevant. Which they have no right to do (nor does the NBA have the right to keep them from being pros), so I'm not sure what the move is. I think going to a baseball type system is the way to go. Let the guys who are good enough go ahead and turn pro immediately, but if you go to a 4 year school, you wait until you're through year 3 before you can go.
  19. Not being a smart ass...just curious why you'd have the guy most likely to be the worst hitter of that group bat second. I understand the whole protection thing isn't much of a reality, but hey, anything that allows Javy to potentially see more strikes is fine by me. And in the grand scheme of things, we do know that lineup construction doesn't really matter all that much, so I'm okay with it.
  20. Unfortunately, I'd bet that it has a lot to do with case load and the ability to get a win/conviction and move on to the next scumbag.
  21. Officiating in this WVU-Maryland game is a joke. Tackle basketball!
  22. Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. And Maryland needs to stop chucking from three. Also, the head shots to Trimble should probably be stopped.
  23. Man, Cincinnati is hanging in pretty well for not being able to score at all. Their defense has been fantastic.
