  1. My guess is it may be difficult to control and be effective just dialing it up 1-3 times a game, and the increased risk of doing so at all is not worth the incremental gain of using it 1-3 times. Or at least that is how he and his people view the risk. Exactly, it's the reps in side sessions and working on mechanics that makes the pitch consistent. If you're concerned with injury, you're not going to dial it up in side sessions or games throughout the season and perhaps that's been happening more frequently of late to get dialed up for the postseason. Really though, who knows?
  2. He's struggled a bit with it recently, but nothing I'm worried about. He had one game in particular where he made 3 bad throws and got bailed out on at least one of them by Rizzo.
  3. Ha! Zobrist rode his bike to the park in full uniform today? That's amazing!
  4. I keep seeing them compare 2006 and 2011 to this year. The reasonable people I talk to down here know that those were both a perfect storm of getting healthy and hot at the right time and have zero expectation of that happening again. The mouth breathers definitely are using that.
  5. The general resignation to their fate down here is glorious. Almost always followed by "Hey, if this is our down year, we're still doing pretty well". No acknowledgement that the Cubs are now their overlords.
  6. 2 reasons, the first being total IP on the year even though he missed 50 games and the other being their completely trash bullpen right now.
  7. there's probably about a 6 or 7% chance of that happening (40% chance to make the playoffs, maybe 50% chance to win the wild card game, then maybe 35% chance of winning a series against the cubs). that does not seem like something that a competent baseball announcer should be predicting. Well, that's the issue. Hrabosky is a lunatic homer. Most Cards fans I know can't stand the guy. It always baffles me that a quality franchise like the Cardinals has such a decidedly mediocre broadcast team. Dan McLaughlin is a fawning cheerleader, Hrobosky is an absolute joke, McCarver is a windbag and Shannon is just okay. I can't stand any of them other than Edmonds, but Shannon is the worst by a wide margin. He's not only terrible calling the game, his mush mouthed mispronunciations are absolutely awful as well.
  8. Apparently it's say stupid horsefeathers night at the ballpark!
  9. All Reynolds did there was continue to reinforce the fact that he's a giant idiot who shouldn't really be talking about baseball.
  10. Oh wow, Hrabosky just said it was the Cubs night tonight and it's been their season, but he still says if they meet in the postseason the Cardinals will defeat them. horsefeathering moran.
  11. Sent mine and retweeted the NSBB ones. I'm watching the Cards broadcast so if he does it, somebody post it somewhere.
  12. Greetings from beautiful St. Louis, Missouri! (I feel dirty now) Go CUBS !!
  13. No way he makes it through the whole season. I had a torn labrum in my right shoulder and it was almost popping out on a regular basis playing basketball. I can't fathom how his shoulder will possibly hold up for 16 games.
  14. it is a rare thing for me, and even then i'm sick of it before the end of the meal. For me, the big thing is how much I hate it as leftovers. I'm the kind of slob that loves a good cold pizza, and Pequod's was the only place that had a deep dish that I could tolerate either cold or reheated, and even that wasn't so great. Real Chicago style deep dish just seems too chewy and rubbery unless I was willing to bake it in the oven forever, and usually it would still end up being too mushy or soup-y. Leftover pizza should either be delicious cold or require only minimal reheating; deep dish I only like when it's freshly made (even delivery was usually a letdown), and like you said, after a slice or two I'm over it. Look here you sonofabitch, I'm deprived of delicious deep dish pizza and have to work to avoid the terribleness that provel cheese. You take back your ambivalence toward deep dish or I'm going to get someone to force feed you Imo's till you puke!
  15. I don't have near as much a problem with Roberts winning it as I do with Dusty, who is already working his usual magic in Washington. Roberts took a team that went 92-70 (.568 win pct) and has turned them into what is so far a 79-60 team (.568 win pct). Yay? Well yeah, but you're not comparing apples to apples there when you consider they've gotten where the are now without Kershaw for 2 months. Not to mention all the other pitcher's arms falling off. I'm with david, Maddon got it last year and Roberts has done a good enough job that I'd have no issue with it. Baker can DIAF though.
  16. It did kinda feel like he said "f it" take your beating though he could have just left him out there to eat innings because the pitch count was low. I feel like this is the correct answer. With Montgomery starting today, no reason to tax the pen if you can avoid it, even with the number of guys they've got out there right now. I was amazed his PC was so low after that beating he took in the 1st. Oh, and where is new gam thread???????????????????????
  17. And also our two best relievers other than Chapman have been injured for the majority of that time. Grimm's last 24 appearances: 20.2 IP, 1 ER, 10 H, 6 BB, 28 K, 3 XBH, 0.44 ERA, .425 OPS against This is our 6th inning guy in the playoffs... you know the 6th inning we won't even need a reliever to pitch in. Assuming everyone is healthy, he's probably more like the 5th best reliever behind Chapman, Rondon, Strop, and CJ. If Zastryzny and Smith continue to pitch well, it's certainly going to be interesting to see the roster decisions come the NLDS.
  18. Well, yeah, but this guy is also a dongsmith so we're on board right?
  19. Jerome Williams just getting shelled right now for the Cards and the Reds are now up 9-1 after 8.
  20. Anybody see Haugh's idiotic article on seal boy today?
  21. Seriously, it's comical how good he is. 88 mph and they just can't do a damn thing with it.
  22. You watched Usain Bolt right? You've seen what the best drugs can do if you did.
  23. Is this thing going to start on time? I saw Len's tweet about the rain an hour or so ago and that made me wonder.
