  1. - Including the one where Marquez got taken out on his way through?
  2. Indeed, and the more World Cup positions when it (inevitably) expands again. Australia will be making a similar push, in their perfect group.
  3. That was a goal. Count yourselves lucky, Cote d'Ivoire. Now make the most of it.
  4. Considering that Dwight Yorke made his name as a striker of great ability, the defensive side of his game has been particularly impressive.
  5. The stupid hairstyles are part of the World Cup's proudest tradition. Carlos Valderrama, anyone? http://www.voetbalfocus.nl/imgs/valderrama-c1.jpg
  6. agreed, that'll cost them the game. Trinidad are going for it, then. Extra striker on... let's see how it works.
  7. This one's mile a minute. Who will tire first?
  8. Well, that was a disappointing second half... Paraguay huffing and puffing and creating nothing. England neither huffing, nor puffing but also creating nothing. Questions have to be asked of the referee, too.
  9. We're getting a report from Trinidad and Tobago's Stoke-on-Trent based midfielder Chris Birchall on the BBC. At least its football related.
  10. Its very strange having that video screen in the centre of the field. Solid first half from England - but not creating as many problems as they promised to do earlier on. The balls into the box have been particularly disappointing, I'd say, considering the target that Peter Crouch presents. He should be doing as much attacking work in the air as on the ground - first half, he hasn't been. Paraguay, meanwhile, started badly, but got better and better. Chances are at a premium for them, but the players you'd expect to be doing things for La Albarroja are doing - Santa Cruz, Valdez, Paredes.... Not quite evenly balanced at half-time, but England haven't dominated as much as they could, and maybe should have done.
  11. Well, Day 2 is about to be under-way. Much excitement, especially about the Argentina - Ivory Coast game later.
  12. I'll pin my colours to the Spanish mast until they get embarrassingly eliminated.
  13. Have you ever used one of the World Cup balls? During France 98, one of my mates had the official ball, and there was so much give in the material on the surface that it sort of wrapped itself around your foot when you hit it - so that the kicks were truer; an increase in the sweet-spot, I'd say. I've not felt these new balls, but the Frings goal moved in the air a massive amount - we'll see what happens in the rest of the tournament.
  14. Its going to be very, very difficult for Poland now. No goals, no points and have to beat the Germans, really.
  15. And the second Ecuador goal kills this one off. Nicely worked, too.
  16. Intriguing game, too. Poland having more and more of the ball, but not doing so much with it. Ecuador looking solid at the back, and dangerous on the counter-attack. Certainly nothing as spectacular as the first game yet.
  17. it is. I'm trying to get around it with a UK proxy. XM has the exclusive rights to the audio broadcasts here and ESPN has the exclusive rights to internet broadcasts and has put them on ESPN360, which I don't get. Ah, OK. I've got so used to just being able to listen to things on Five Live. I've got a mate in Spain with the same problem as you - generally most active during the football season.
  18. I thought it was only available in the UK?
  19. And the games keep coming! Go Ecuador!
  20. I know - but you don't often get German teams starting like this - or even scoring goals like this. The defence has been a joke - Mertrsacke in particular. In 2002, Germany beat Saudi Arabia 8-0 in their first game. I know it's Saudi Arabia, but 8-0 is 8-0 in a World Cup game. I meant more the attacking style of play than the result, but I take your point.
  21. I know - but you don't often get German teams starting like this - or even scoring goals like this. The defence has been a joke - Mertrsacke in particular.
  22. And this is an unfancied German team. Yikes.
  23. You only hope to not defend like that. Appalling.
  24. Here you can launch a match tracker - its in-depth-ish, and there's fan comments on a different tab.
  25. Woof! Some effort.
