The United Kingdom is, as the name suggests, the unification of all four of those named areas. It includes the big island and some of the small island and is the name of the team you see in the Olympic games. Great Britain is the name of the big island - the one that contains England, Scotland and Wales. England is the bit below Hadrian's Wall and to the east of Offa's [expletive]. Why is this important? If you ever come to the UK, you'll realise that the people of each of the four countries have very different personalities and very different identities - each equally strong. The Scots, for example, have been cheering England's opponents as forcefully as they cheer their own team during the World Cup, as they always do.
