  1. I love it; ITT isn't the most watchable, though, I'll admit. The Mountain Biking was amazing yesterday
  2. I'm intrigued by the low contact point of PCA's homers yesterday; it doesn't look something to be encouraged, was it the park dimensions? The wind? Just good fortune?
  3. If its Spencer Howard, he's allowed 4 hits from his 17 batters faced with runners in scoring position. I'd be interested to see which of those two numbers (if either) increased today.
  4. This is an absolute nightmare for those of us who live outside of a baseball world - one would have to be paying preposterous attention to complete a grid (I got 5/9 today, and was happy with that).
  5. I'm going to be looking out for Englishness creeping in to both Cubs and Cards over the next few months. Mike Moustakas was going in with both feet from the clips I saw, so he's a candidate.
  6. Quite like the Falcons at Tampa Bay at that price.
  7. Chris Smalling IS an idiot.
  8. That was a really harsh decision; I wonder if the referee was swayed by the somewhat unnatural movement, half going for the ball, half avoiding it.
  9. I've been out of the loop for a long time (years) but reading through the last 10-20 pages of this thread has been a treat.
  10. The league systems in each - and particularly to anything approaching what is there now are far younger; England's Division 2 was around by 1891ish, but Spain's proper league didn't start until 1929, and Germany's later still. I'd look at the J League as a model for what promotion and relegation offers; I've seen a lot of J2 games this season and they're exciting because they matter. MLS is not yet big enough in terms of franchises, but if in 10-15 years it's up to 30ish, going to the way England used to do it (voting the worst performing teams in/out) might be worth thinking about. They can always come back. *And yes, I rather dragged this out of the previous page, but figured it was worth doing.
  11. I'd say there's little chance he gets "fired." However, I think there is an excellent chance he steps down at the end of the season. He was brought in to stabilise and improve, as far as I recall - so I can't imagine him being in the dugout next season. He probably should have looked to move on earlier; but who will they get in his place?
  12. :clapping: Najar's was alright, but centre backs do it relatively often. Nice to see, but not thrilling. Nagbe's was lovely, though. :stickman:
  13. I've been away for a long, long time, but am back now. :clapping:
  14. That sounds plausible and is why I don't like Nadal. His game is not sustainable for any length of time. The injuries are getting longer and longer, and he comes back, punishes himself again to burn so brightly, and ends up broken within a few months.
  15. England have been in a state of woeful transition for about 3 years now (I guess its the 'who will be Beckham now he can't be him himself' thing) and should be nowhere near the top 5; any game against reasonably good opposition is a massive test (Montenegro and France both spring to mind)
  16. Isn't this just a one off thing? Yon man at the bottom looks like he's taking evasive action, which presumably doesn't always happen.
  17. If this makes it to the UK, its going straight on my rental list. If it doesn't...well, its got Brad Pitt in it. People will watch it.
  18. As a goalkeeper this is bad news. In related news, I bought the US shirt with the two shades of whitish hoops on it this afternoon for £15.
  19. Eh up, that's only one of two mascots. The other is a similar thing, but in blue instead of orange. Kids went mad for it, by all accounts.
  20. Yeah, England looked pretty shabby against Japan, but it was a different England to the one that will start in a week or so. Darren Bent started, Walcott was quick but ineffective on the right, Lennon was quick and cut inside a lot on the left. The most encouraging aspect was the devil looking to be back in Joe Cole - looked like he was back to something like his best (it was his cross that brought about the first own goal) which is a valuable option to have. All in all, England games look like they're going to be pretty boring affair again. Good job there's another 31 teams to watch, too.
  21. The problem for me here is that this is a pretty shabby Australia team compared to the ones that have lorded it over England for the last 20 years or so. Missing McGrath, Warne, Gilchrist and going back through to the Waughs; yes, Ricky Ponting is a pantomime villain, but Stuart Clark's a nice guy, Michael Clarke, too. They're pretty grounded and, seemingly, good enough to win the Ashes. Its tough to despise them even though, as an Englishman, I've got to do.
  22. Yeah, thanks for that. :cray:
  23. The drama of test/first-class cricket, that takes hours to build, is something that can never be replicated in the shorter forms, which is why they're not for me. I don't know about impatience in Twenty/20 cricket, it just seems like it rewards risk a lot more. Swinging for the fences every shot isn't a sound policy if you've got to protect your wicket, so what's the point of bowling if the aim isn't to take wickets, but prevent runs?
  24. I' m tres excited about Jozy going to Hull. Admittedly, their fans have a somewhat patchy reputation (not quite so bad since they left Boothferry Park) but its the kind of team I expect him to do well at. Would have preferred Fulham, though. The KC Stadium is quite a nice ground from what I know (Huddersfield haven't played Hull for 3/4 years now) but I wouldn't recommend the city/area.
  25. Sad news. He was a good man, Bobby Robson, and its been saddening to see his decline over the last few years. His Ipswich team of the 1980s were tremendous, and the 1990 vintage England were pretty nifty too. :hello:
