Look, I follow the Cards probably as closely as anybody on this board since I live in St. Louis, so I have a pretty good idea of what they've got. Samardzija and Perez have similar makeup in terms of stuff (high 90s heat and a slider) but Samardzija has a much higher ceiling because he's so raw and has a 3rd pitch, plus he may develop into a groundball pitcher because of his 2 seamer. If you asked 100 scouts, at least 90-95 of them would take Shark over Perez. Not that Perez doesn't have a lot of good things going for him, he just doesn't potentially project to be a starter like Shark. And, he's the best the Cards have right now to finish games as long as Duncan leaves him alone. How can you say we have no prospects. After you say you follow Baseball America to get your rankings on players? Vitters will be a top 30 player by them next year. Hell Castilla will be ranked pretty highly as well. But, yeah we have no prospects, we just traded some mid level ones for Rich Harden though. That worked out well for us.
